Frequently asked questions

The Frigidaire FFRA051WAE is a window-mounted air conditioner with a cooling capacity of 5,000 BTU. It comes with temperature control allowing you to set the desired temperature for your room, and an easy-to-clean washable filter to ensure your air stays clean and fresh. This model is available in white.

With a BTU rating of 5,000, it can effectively cool a room up to approximately 150 square feet. This makes it an ideal choice for small rooms or apartments. However, the cooling efficiency might be influenced by factors such as insulation, number of windows, and the room's sun exposure.

The Frigidaire FFRA051WAE air conditioner requires very little maintenance. The primary task is cleaning the washable filter. It is recommended to clean it at least once a month to ensure optimal performance. Besides, regular checks on the overall condition of the air conditioner are advisable to prevent any damages or issues.

The window-mounted installation of the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE is quite straightforward and comes with a full instruction manual. It can fit windows with a minimum height of 13 inches and a width of 23 to 36 inches. Make sure you follow the manual for accurate and safe installation procedures.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The 5000 BTU AC unit generally impresses with its small size and energy efficient cooling. It is easy to install and delivers impressively in cooling fairly large and small spaces alike. However, some users report that some adjustments may be required, such as separating the thermostat sensor wire from the evaporator coil to prevent short cycles. Humid environment users may also find the unit stores condensation rather than draining it, which can lead to somewhat loud noises.

Pros

  • 👍 Efficient cooling for small and larger spaces
  • 👍 Energy efficient
  • 👍 Fairly straightforward to install
  • 👍 Simple design with no unnecessary frills

Cons

  • 👎 The 5000 BTU model may require some adjustments due to factory issues
  • 👎 Stored condensation may result in occasionally loud noises
  • 👎 No drain mechanism in case of excess water build-up
  • 👎 Limited connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and remote control

Should I Buy It?

Based on the reviews, the 5000 BTU AC unit seems like a great temporary solution or addition to a central AC system, especially considering its energy efficiency. However, potential buyers in very humid climates or those wanting high-tech connectedness may want to research more options. Overall, if you're willing to potentially make some manual adjustments, this might be a strong choice for its performance and price point.

  • Great product from a reliable brand
Size: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
I have been using the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE air conditioner for a few weeks now. So far I would say it is a good air conditioner at a great price. It is much smaller and lighter than my previous air conditioner but still very powerful. This specific model weighs 40lbs. I use this AC unit to cool a small bedroom and the 5000 BTUs is plenty. My room gets extremely cold in an hour running on the High Cool 7 setting. Helpful tip - if you want your room to stay cold at night and the overnight temperature is going to dip into the 50s, run the AC for 1-2 hours on the High Cool setting before the temperature drops below 60 degrees, then shut it off for the night. If you install some cheap insulation foam on your windows and doors your room will stay cool much longer. Never run a window AC when the temperature outside is below 60 degrees because it can freeze up the unit. I ran my previous air conditioner everyday in the summer and never knew why it kept shutting off on its own on cold nights. I thought there was a short in it. There must have been an internal chip failsafe that kept my old air conditioner from destroying itself... this is why it still works to this day. This Frigidaire air conditioner was relatively easy to install right out of the box and fit securely in my window. The only tool I needed was a philips screwdriver. A handy person could probably install this AC unit by themself in about 10 minutes. Two notable mentions from the installation manual... the 5/16" pitch is built in to the design of the AC unit so no need to worry about doing it yourself. Pitch is the backward tilt which causes water to exit the back of the machine and drain to the outside. In step 1 on page 2 they mention placing the unit on the floor to install the side panels but what they don't specify is that you must place the unit on its back to do so. To get the accordion panels in place lay the air conditioner on its back with buttons face up and slide each panel through the 4 holes on each side. You'll know when you've done it correctly. I almost didn't buy this air conditioner due to the negative reviews about it not cooling and/or breaking right away. Am starting to think that people give too much weight to negative product reviews these days. Electronics are generally tested before sale and rarely fail right out of the box. Paying extra on an extended warranty is betting on your electronic to fail which is almost always a losing venture. It's also worth noting that most people never leave positive reviews on any items they buy, they only leave a review if something is wrong with it. This behavior highly skews product reviews in a negative way. My main complaint regarding this Frigidaire air conditioner is that there is no built in timer. But that would likely have raised the price closer to $300. My old air conditioner had a timer but was very heavy and much harder to install. There are timers online you can buy that should work with air conditioners. But as mentioned previously if you insulate your room properly you can probably get by running this AC unit for just an hour or two most nights. My only other complaint is a minor one. I leave my air conditioner plugged in and turn the unit on and off on a daily basis. I would much rather have push buttons on an air conditioner than a knob that you turn that could eventually break off. Final note: When I first got this Frigidaire air conditioner it did not produce super cold air immediately right out of the box. I believe it took a few hours. This is something to keep in mind. Just because an air conditioner doesn't get super cold instantly doesn't mean it's broken. ... show more

  • Quiet, effective, energy efficient.
Size: 2024 5,000 BTU Electronic Controls
We only have window units at our home. We had a Frigidaire from the late 2000's that came with our house. It was the smallest, lightest unit that we had, and it worked better than all others. When that unit finally developed a front leak, it was time for a replacement. I ordered this one with digital controls, and I am extremely satisfied. First: the unit is very light and compact, which is great for easy installation in any style of window. When I turned it on, it quickly began cooling, and had a very quiet compressor. I'm able to customize the cooling level using controls on the unit, or on the included remote. Before I leave, I set the temp higher and run it on eco. It will automatically turn off and on as cooling is needed, saving a lot of energy. The only weird thing with this unit is the lack of a drain hole at the bottom, which is an option I like on my window units, as the sound of pinging water in the pan is slightly annoying. However, even with a pan full of water after running in humid temps, the sound is very subtle. The unit does spray its condensate out of the top of the unit like a sprinkler as the fan hits the water, which is interesting. I am considering buying more of these to replace all of our older units. ... show more

  • Good, but only on max setting
Size: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
For starters, it's a good ac. It definitely cools the room down. That being said, it only REALLY cools down the room on max setting and then it's an Arctic, so for temperature control, it's lacking. Installation was easy enough and depending on window you may only need one person. For a window unit, it's pretty quiet. It does make some odd noises sometimes but I haven't had issues with function. Personally, I've enjoyed it and it's kept me nice and cool for the summer. The only reason it only gets 4 stars is again, the temperature control. It's pretty light for what it is and does a good job for the price. ... show more

Size: 10,000 BTU Electronic Controls
If you do not know, ANY refrigerating unit has to be placed in its installed location for 6+ hours (24 is best) PRIOR to powering it on! That allows the refrigerant to settle! Now for the review: First the good: the cooling of the a/c is very strong, I had 2 5000btu air-conditioner that still blew cold to compare to and this 10,000 unit has lots more ability to bring the temp down than both of those did, secondly the remote functions well and works from a distance provided that you have a clear line of sight to the unit. Now the bad: the digital temperature control is essentially useless, as the temperature sensor is directly in front of the cooling radiator and is useless to sense anything approaching the actual temp of the room, so you're left with just turning it on and off yourself.. it does have an off-timer so you can always set it to turn off in 30min or whatever so you don't gotta turn it off yourself. Because of the temp-sensor design fault you're limited to that. It has a "dry" feature that is supposed to lower the humidity more than typical so I usually use that setting but it only works when the compressor is running and it blowing cold, it is NOT a dehumidifier. And using humidistats it doesn't truly seem to reduce humidity any more than regular cool mode. Honestly I cannot imagine why a unit with a digital temperature control and a remote doesn’t just have the temperature sensor built in to the remote! That would actually allow it to function as is advertised. Also; thanks to the EPA, the temp setting always reverts back to 72 and the mode to "eco" when powered on so the on-timer is also essentially useless since within a minute or two it'll think it's reached its set temp because of the temp sensor design at which point the compressor kicks off and then it blows warm air for 3min then turns off for 10min.. then turns back on again and repeats the cycle. I've only used it for a few weeks but it's worked well and does the job of cooling/dehumidifing the air better than I expected, if that changes or it doesn't work next year I'll definitely update. ... show more
