🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The 5000 BTU AC unit generally impresses with its small size and energy efficient cooling. It is easy to install and delivers impressively in cooling fairly large and small spaces alike. However, some users report that some adjustments may be required, such as separating the thermostat sensor wire from the evaporator coil to prevent short cycles. Humid environment users may also find the unit stores condensation rather than draining it, which can lead to somewhat loud noises.

Pros

  • 👍 Efficient cooling for small and larger spaces
  • 👍 Energy efficient
  • 👍 Fairly straightforward to install
  • 👍 Simple design with no unnecessary frills

Cons

  • 👎 The 5000 BTU model may require some adjustments due to factory issues
  • 👎 Stored condensation may result in occasionally loud noises
  • 👎 No drain mechanism in case of excess water build-up
  • 👎 Limited connectivity features such as Wi-Fi and remote control

Should I Buy It?

Based on the reviews, the 5000 BTU AC unit seems like a great temporary solution or addition to a central AC system, especially considering its energy efficiency. However, potential buyers in very humid climates or those wanting high-tech connectedness may want to research more options. Overall, if you're willing to potentially make some manual adjustments, this might be a strong choice for its performance and price point.

  • Perfect for a Small Room.
Size: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
Purchased two of these as they were on sale and so far they've been working great. Both my mother and I are enjoying cold air in the middle of this heatwave. -They are light-ish. Not that difficult to manage but still probably want to have someone else give a hand with placement. -The cord is really long and that actually came in handy. -The output is really good. <Though I still have a tower fan there to help distribute the air further/faster but have actually been a little too cold a few nights. -It is quiet, and I thought it was broken at first lol. -Will restart if power goes out. <Glad it does because this is kinda a deal breaker for me. I had an AC that needed to be turned back on after every power outage. That thing might as well have been a paperweight for the amount of good it did me. Cons: -This is a general issue with any AC and that being the radiator is easily warped. Nothing you can do other than show extra precaution, but that's a design issue that nearly every window unit has. -I don't consider it a "Con" but this unit does not come with a remote or selectable temperatures. It has high cold or low cold (and fan only high/low) but no way to select a specific temperature. Note: -An important notice is that (with most any cooling system) you NEED to let the AC sit upright for at least an hour before turning on. The coolants have to settle for it to function correctly and it may not work properly if you don't give it time to do so. ... show more

  • Excellent bedroom window ac unit
Size: 2024 5,000 BTU Electronic Controls
The heat & air pump went out on us and we just don't have the money to replace it now. I have been basically living out of my bedroom due to pet damage/filth concerns due to my niece moving in with her 4 cats that she refuses to clean up after. I am planning on getting a new home as soon as possible but we all know how hard that is to do in today's economy. I have been suffering through several summers now where it has been so hot in my bedroom that the sweat was just rolling off of me and me shirtless with a fan blowing directly on me. This window unit has been a Godsend to me. There was no way I was going to suffer through another summer having to deal with daily 90+ degree temps in my bedroom. I had this unit installed in a little over an hour and it wouldn't have taken that long but I cleaned the windows real good while I was at it. I guess it was close to 90 degrees in my room when I installed the ac unit so I set the thermostat on 68 degrees and within an hour my room was actually freezing cold, lol....now that I have my bedroom temp. under control I normally keep the ac thermostat set between 72-75 degrees. Most times I leave it on 74 and I am now always comfortable. I can now sit at my desk and actually get important things done. Before, when it was so hot in here, I just couldn't focus on anything. It was just too hot to really deal with anything. I am extremely satisfied with this unit and I have been using it for several days now. I got the electronic control version instead of the simple knobs. I know it is about $30 more but it is well worth it. I can now set the thermostat and forget about the ac unit and get on with my work or even game play on my pc. This is a great buy. I highly recommend it and anyone who puts out a review claiming that it is too loud obviously has never used a fan. This window unit makes less noise than the pedestal fan I was using. I can barely hear it. I can't even hear it at all if I am watching a video. I got the new 2025 version so I can't say anything about the older units. I imagine they are all pretty much made the same but I wanted a new product. So many times when you buy something online it will say "NEW" and that is partly true because it has never been used but a lot of times you are buying old stock that has been sitting on the shelf or in the warehouse for years. Always check the manuf. date before you buy anything so you know what you are getting. I have bought things before thinking them to be new items only to find out they were made almost 10 years ago and already outdated, lol Buyers beware of this kind of thing. Nothing against Amazon here. Amazon is always straight up about the manuf. date and where the product was made. I am a big supporter of Amazon and they have always resolved any problems I have ever had which have been very few. This review has nothing to do with any promotion and I don't get anything if someone buys one of these. I bought this after looking through the options that Amazon had. ... show more

  • Very Good, Almost Terrific
Size: 5,000 BTU Mechanical Controls
This is a relatively inexpensive, quite light, very low-power window A/C that absolutely gets the job done for a small room. We're using it to cool an under-insulated 100 sq ft, and it has no problem. On it's Low setting, it'll cool the room from Too Hot to Colder Than I Intended in half an hour. It's so light that we installed it in an upper sash instead of the lower sash, and it's no problem. Be aware this is an inexpensive unit, without a calibrated thermostat (you set warmer or cooler, like with a typical fridge, but you can't set a target temperature in degrees) or a remote. Doesn't bother us, but don't be surprised. However, a couple of caveats: First, the installation instructions aren't good. To be fair, I've never seen a window A/C that came with good installation instructions, which is strange because it's not complicated. The trick is to be aware that the side panels should be vertical, with the lip around the edges on the inside of the window and frame. If you have a window anything close to standard, when the side panels are aligned correctly, the A/C is in the right position and tilted at the right angle. You want the foam between where the A/C meets the window and windowsill, to fill in the gaps. That covers the hard part of putting it in correctly. Second, A/Cs like this have a layer of styrofoam dividing the inside from the outside, except for the drainage hole and where tubing goes through. The foam is often in two pieces that meet in the middle. If the foam isn't thick enough or doesn't seal tightly where the pieces meet, you'll get a lot of exterior sound coming in -- and a lot of bugs. This A/C needs thicker foam and a tighter seal. It's not bad, but another 50 cents of styrofoam would vastly improve it. When it's off, it may allow noticeable amounts of hot air in, and you will get noise and may get some bugs. Because the split in the foam is inside, you can't just tape it up yourself. This isn't a huge problem -- I've seen some that are basically bug freeways -- but overall this unit has a nice fit and finish, and it's a shame this one important detail isn't up to the level of the rest. ... show more
