  • Second time of buying
Many years ago I bought an earlier version of this unit , the reason I bought it was because back then they had the units in the stores . As a result I ended up trying about half a dozen different brands , and this one was overall the best , and the loudest with great sound quality . That unit gave me many years of great service . So last week when that unit decided to go pear shaped , because I dropped something on it , I decided to purchase something new. My main thing was the unit needed a cassette player , and this brand was the only one that had that . Other brands that did have a cassette player were either lacking in features , were basically portable units or had too many flashing lights on them . The unit was for my bedroom , the last thing I need is garish flashing lights that change five million different colors . Plus I don’t like rap music and am far from 12 years old . So lights were a big no no . Whilst perusing brands I came across this , and realized that it is a modern version of the one I had , just with a few extra features . I’ve seen many comment about the random play cd thing and agree that it would be better if it played randomly across all five discs, and for some reason I think my old unit did that . It is a bit of a minor annoyance as I’ve had many multi disc units that do that , and it is an option I would like . But it is not a deal breaker . As an owner of the older version I love this thing , the sound is great , the options are great and it looks good . Would prefer longer speaker leads but that is something I can fix . Would also like a separate audio input on the back but again , not a deal breaker. ... show more

  • CD Player a Great Value !
Considering the price, (approx. $245), this is a truly superb system overall. The bass, with sub woofer, has fantastic tonal quality, and again, overall, I am glad I purchased this. It is also one of the few, if not the only one, with these features all in one: sub woofer, cassette player, 5 disc cd changer, remote, ability to control bass and treble separately, etc. Like another reviewer, I found the control unit to be a bit larger than I had expected, but not an issue. The connecting speaker wires are way too short, only about 3 ft., so I had to buy extra wire and connectors in order to place them away from control unit. The treble quality could be better; but then I didn't spend $1K for tweeters either... One suggestion might be that the product be shipped in two boxes, as the one it all came in is quite heavy and large and therefore a bit challenging to manage until it is unwrapped. In spite of the very minor notes mentioned, I would most definitely purchase this Sharp product again.....no regrets! ... show more

  • Too dependent on remote control overall a really Great Unit
First the negative, this Unit is a little too dependent on the remote control for some of the functions. Some may only be used with the remote, so lose or break that and you're in trouble. Replacement remote is between 40 and 50 Dollars, IF you can find one. I bought an extra one from Dan's Electronics. The display could be bigger in order to display more information while playing or searching for folders when using the USB. Difficult to navigate through the USB files and you'll have to have a index printed yourself of all the songs and albums(folders) on your USB drive. Otherwise it's a guessing game as to where the music you want to hear is on the drive. The unit does hold 65025 MP3/WMA files. Total number of folders (albums) is 999. The display only shows MP3 folders, and only up to 32 characters. I downloaded at least a couple of hundred CDs from my collection to a thumb drive(flash) and mainly why I bought this particular unit to listen to music from that drive without having to constantly change out CDs or tapes. You can play entire folders(albums) but this unit does not support playlists. Something I don't care for either is that once that folder is played the unit shuts off instead of just going to the next folder and playing until you turn off the unit yourself. The bluetooth will play nicely but is limited to how much battery you have on your phone or whatever. There is a 5 disc CD changer and although it works perfectly now I actually wonder how durable it will be over time. It just seems like it struggles to do it's job loading and unloading with thin plastic shelves. Guess I'm just used to the older ones that are thicker and maybe heavier duty. Over all this is a great unit and it has really great sound with plenty of power. It was delivered securely packed and although I was concerned about having it shipped and "basketball" tested by the delivery companies, there wasn't any apparent damage at all to the unit and everything I've used has performed perfectly. (I haven't used the Bluetooth, NFC, headphone jack, MP3/WMA disc, or audio in jack) I did purchase the extra SubWoofer and would recommend it for those who enjoy music at it finest although it sounds great without it the SW just adds to the overall performance. I am very pleased with this purchase and would buy it again. I've had this one for about two weeks and put it through a lot of testing during that time. ... show more

  • It fits nicely on a book shelf.
I am very pleased with the quality and especially with the price. Many of my friends have commented on how handsome it looks sitting on my book shelf. I really like the subwoofer and the ability to program it from across the room with the remote. The only thing that is frustrating for me is that it feels like it must be in Bluetooth mode all of the time. I need to be a little smarter than the system to overcome that feature. For many younger folks that would probably be an added plus. The sound quality for me was really nice as I live in a multi-family Condo building and I can blast my neighbors if I am not careful, but it has the ability even with the subwoofer to produce a quality sound at a much lower volume. ... show more
