  • I’m in love with a vacuum
Style: 60 min runtime
Buy it no matter what, that’s all I can say. When we purchased corded vacuums I got the Shark Navigator and haven’t gone back to any other corded brand. In choosing cordless though I always thought it was more of a gimmick than a true tool so I tended to buy cheap knock offs to just get pet hair from the floors and possibly something heavier like dirt. Anything else and the two cordless vacuums were so underpowered that I never believed it would come close to really cleaning up much at all. When our third cheap brand cordless died in less than a year, I thought I’d upscale to something that might last over a year. I took nearly a month researching brand after brand to find one that was both affordable, reliable and powerful enough for us. Ultimately I bought this Shark Vertex for the following reasons: 1) At $365 it was half the price of a Dyson. It was still twice as much as what I’d paid for cheap no name brands but I needed something that would actually last. While not cheap, I could afford it. 2) The problem with no name brands is that if one piece is lost or broken they don’t tend to sell parts for them. With this Shark I made sure that there were replacement parts for anything I might break, and there are. Any repairs down the line should cost tens of dollars from now on, not another $100-150 to buy another cheap cordless to throw away a few months later. 3) This thing is powerful. Wow. None of the other cordless vacuums I had really did much on carpet. The brush might grab some of the detritus on the rugs but it was a 50-50 crap shoot. As for pet hair, that was even worse. This Vertex is pretty incredible. On carpet mode I’m able to get it on my deep plush rug and get pet hair and anything else right off. You know it’s working when you can’t see anything on the rug but after you go over it there’s all this captured filth sitting in the container! Not only does the rotating head work really well (and especially the anti hair tangling feature) but the suction is very good. Obviously not as good as the corded but definitely good enough. We are alternating cord-cordless every weekend so that we get extra deep cleaning every other week. Battery power is impressive. We’ve done the two large rugs downstairs, the hard wood floors, the carpeted stairs and four carpeted bedrooms all one one charge-just. But that it’s able to do all of that is really impressive. Additionally you can also purchase another battery for $80 if you think you might runout if power. The “crack” feature which allows the handle to look like a broken arm and get to almost a 90 degree angle so that you can get under furniture is a pretty nifty feature. I thought it was a silly gimmick but I use it quite a bit. One thing that bothers me though is that the little toggle that releases the straight arm into the angle is a small plastic piece that I’m pretty sure I’m going to accidentally break off one day-need to check if THAT part is replaceable. Couple other things I didn’t like: There’s no wall mount but that’s probably because it’s heavy at nearly 10 lbs. Took a couple uses to get used to the new weight but once you get used to it, it’s definitely worth the trade off of some extra weight for extra power. The other thing is that the roller head is not only larger because of the dual rollers, but it’s pretty noisy on the carpet mode. Again, I think it’s a fair trade off to get a louder heavier roller head for much more effective cleaning power. All in all this vacuum is a keeper. The vacuum is warrantied for defects for up to 5 years! For normAl wear and tear of parts that need to be replaced, those items are available on the Shark store and on Amazon. ... show more

  • It sucks, in a very good way.
Style: 60 min runtime + LED Display
I purchased this at 1/2 price on black Friday because I was going to have a procedure which would not allow me to drag my Electrolux around the house, I wanted nothing to do with it and scoffed at it when it arrived, I thoroughly cleaned my house before my procedure. What disgusted me the most the first time I vacuumed my house with this Shark thing is how much dirt it picked up, I still don't know how that was possible, I am not some kind of slob. So here I am, it's April 1st and I still have not dragged the Electrolux out. I guess I don't have to, this Shark thing is light, powerful and very easy to use. I have a decent sized two-bedroom home with a large dining room and have never had the battery die on me. If you have a big home this might not be for you, you can have my Electrolux if you want to drag it around. ... show more

  • Suck it to me baby!
Style: 120 min runtime + LED Display
This stick vacuum has some good features I liked. The brush head has two brush rolls. Consisting of three types of brushes. Soft, hard bristles and fins. They do a good job. The brush head also has two speeds as well. Suction is very good at all three speeds. The hinged vacuum tube actually does make it real easy to vacuum underneath furniture. I do however miss having an extendable one and the hinge makes it less rigid and protrude out further the shorter in height you are. I still have to reach in the dust bin when emptying due to the long hair draping over a part that's attached inside of the door that pops open when emptying. Something I've experienced on other vacuums regardless of if there's just a plain door flap or something like this design. Couldn't find any replacement HEPA filters sold on the manufacturer's sight, but found some generic ones sold on Amazon. Haven't received them yet so I can't vouch on how good they are. One of the main reasons I purchased this model that doesn't have the sensors or air freshener features is getting two batteries and dual charger. I don't have smelly rugs or a problem with wondering if I vacuumed everything up. The problem I had was running out of power before I was done vacuuming. I would either have to wait for my battery to recharge or rush to try to finish everything when my battery got low. Having two batteries is a blessing. Especially when they cost eighty something dollars from the manufacturer. Having the more deluxe brush head makes it a little more heavier down on that end and lifting it from the handle like with other brands feels flimsy, like it might possibly break if done repeatedly over time. I'd suggest using the two handed approach with one hand holding on down below when moving it around from one spot to another. You can easily remove the soft brush with the push of a button, the main brush however is permanently fixed which I don't know how they expect you to clean yet alone the clear window on top you can see dirt and dust clinging too? But so far it's working good doing a great job vacuuming. ... show more
