  • A good buy - POINTS TO CONSIDER!
Size: RV45S
This is a sturdy, consistent product that gets the job done very well - a great product for the price range ('affordable' cooler/fridge/freezer). I hate buying ice for road trips and this product has successfully removed that step from my life. This cooler is great to use in-house, in-cabin, in-hotel room… or even when you simply need an additional fridge space (e.g. home gathering, etc). With some practice and tweaking - this portable fridge/freezer takes care of biz very well and keeps your foodstuffs out of the 'danger zone'. A FEW POINTS TO CONSIDER, however: 1) 'set-temp' vs 'real temp' -- I found that setting the device (set-temp) to 25 F allowed the fridge to run at a range of approximately 38-37 to 34-33 F (real temp) - a great temp for fridge foodstuffs. You will want to find a good range from coolest to warmest as your compressor turns off (coolest) and turns back on again (warmest) - for me, this was a set-temp of 25 F which offered about 30 minutes (give or take) from the coolest temp to the highest temp and then about 10 minutes (give or take) for the compressor to kick in and cool the device back down. This is something the manufacturer does not really consider or mention in their somewhat rudimentary instructions (i.e. setting your fridge to 34 F ain’t gonna cut it…) 2) Get a cheap fridge thermometer... it's a good idea to have a detached reference so you really know what temp you have in your fridge… there is no separate in-fridge thermometer… which would have been a nice feature. 3) You will want to consider cheaper models – we are all trying to get the most bang for our buck… BUT, I feel this product – although not the most ‘high-tech’ device – is built quite well and performed without a hiccup over our recent road trip/cabin excursion across desert and up into the mountains, and practice in-home prior. For what you may sacrifice for more (seemingly) fancy options, you get a sturdy, reliable device which maintains very consistent temps (the goal). 4) If you are an avid outdoors-person, off-the-grid camper, etc… this may be a great value for you IF YOU HAVE a reliable power source (RV power source, generator, etc) … BUT, you may want consider other options (i.e. with solar, etc) if you need additional support to power this device. Going into the $1000 or so range may offer you less tinkering and monitoring at the start. That said, once I became accustomed to this device and found my temp sweet-spot, I really didn’t have to think about it. 5) Overall, very happy with this purchase and recommend so long as you know what you are getting – check out the videos on Amazon and on-line for more details ... show more

  • dry camp 300w solar, 1.2kwh battery
Size: RV45S
very impressed with the build quality. the insulation, lid sealing/latching, control panel, efficiency all seem to be top notch. things we like: - pull out baskets for easy cleanup of spilled items, to take into the house for loading and unloading. - metal lining for ease of cleaning and adds to the build quality / durability. - latching lid and foam seal. - appears to have thick insulation and overnight run test seems to confirm this. - quiet operation. - low power consumption. we plan to use this dry camping as a freezer and our test overnight seems to indicate we should have no problem doing this. my setup: - 3x100 w solar panels - 1.2 kwh power station - Southern State in early May, 85° day 60° night - inside box truck slightly higher temp where the freezer is. - 10° freezer setting. - Max operation setting IE not econo mode. our concern is it running overnight, as during the day, the solar can more than keep up with its power use, which in the photograph attached is about 66 Watts running at Max cooling. we ran the freezer overnight and measured power consumption crudely from 5:00 p.m.(solar power dwindles) till 6:00 a.m.(solar power starts to produce) the next morning. it consumed roughly 35% of the power station or roughly 420wh, which is ~32w/hr overnight. By 11:00 a.m. the power station had been fully recharged to 100%. checked the temperature before and after and it stayed constant at just below 10° see pictures. temperature on control panel seems to match quite well with my refrigerator temperature gauges. unit is quiet we had no issues sleeping in the same area with it running. the cigarette lighter power connector is a weak link in that it is apt to vibrate out or become dislodged. I used some cable management web on the cord and used a split key ring with cable ties and an s hook to provide a strain relief, see picture. I have a 12 ft extension at 10 gauge and that is in the picture. I don't like the power cord into this unit as it exits towards the front and I would prefer it exit towards the back i e hinged back of the lid see picture. I will need to see about strain relieving it also. power connection into the unit location is good just the orientation of the cord is something I wish was changed. regardless of price, build quality seems very good and at the price point we got it with manufacturer / Amazon discount we can highly recommend it. if it still performs well after the next couple of weeks, we will get another one to act as a refrigerator IE to run out 34°. ... show more

  • Very nice cooler
Size: RV45S
Looks good the quality seems to be really good. It’s a little heavy but not bad at all. The only thing that I have a problem with is the temperature that shows on the side gauge is different than what I actually read with gauges in the inside. it’s about 8° off but other than that it’s great. I did call customer service and they responded very quick back and was very good to work with and it made me feel good that they have such good customer service. ... show more
