  • Good Purchase
Size: RV45S
I have been testing this at home before I get out camping and I am very happy with this purchase, so far.

  • A good buy - POINTS TO CONSIDER!
Size: RV45S
This is a sturdy, consistent product that gets the job done very well - a great product for the price range ('affordable' cooler/fridge/freezer). I hate buying ice for road trips and this product has successfully removed that step from my life. This cooler is great to use in-house, in-cabin, in-hotel room… or even when you simply need an additional fridge space (e.g. home gathering, etc). With some practice and tweaking - this portable fridge/freezer takes care of biz very well and keeps your foodstuffs out of the 'danger zone'. A FEW POINTS TO CONSIDER, however: 1) 'set-temp' vs 'real temp' -- I found that setting the device (set-temp) to 25 F allowed the fridge to run at a range of approximately 38-37 to 34-33 F (real temp) - a great temp for fridge foodstuffs. You will want to find a good range from coolest to warmest as your compressor turns off (coolest) and turns back on again (warmest) - for me, this was a set-temp of 25 F which offered about 30 minutes (give or take) from the coolest temp to the highest temp and then about 10 minutes (give or take) for the compressor to kick in and cool the device back down. This is something the manufacturer does not really consider or mention in their somewhat rudimentary instructions (i.e. setting your fridge to 34 F ain’t gonna cut it…) 2) Get a cheap fridge thermometer... it's a good idea to have a detached reference so you really know what temp you have in your fridge… there is no separate in-fridge thermometer… which would have been a nice feature. 3) You will want to consider cheaper models – we are all trying to get the most bang for our buck… BUT, I feel this product – although not the most ‘high-tech’ device – is built quite well and performed without a hiccup over our recent road trip/cabin excursion across desert and up into the mountains, and practice in-home prior. For what you may sacrifice for more (seemingly) fancy options, you get a sturdy, reliable device which maintains very consistent temps (the goal). 4) If you are an avid outdoors-person, off-the-grid camper, etc… this may be a great value for you IF YOU HAVE a reliable power source (RV power source, generator, etc) … BUT, you may want consider other options (i.e. with solar, etc) if you need additional support to power this device. Going into the $1000 or so range may offer you less tinkering and monitoring at the start. That said, once I became accustomed to this device and found my temp sweet-spot, I really didn’t have to think about it. 5) Overall, very happy with this purchase and recommend so long as you know what you are getting – check out the videos on Amazon and on-line for more details ... show more

  • Solid cooler/fridge, more time needed to evaluate reliability.
Size: RV45S
I wanted to make the switch from a cooler to 12vdc fridge so I started looking at my use cases, the majority of my trips are only 2 – 3 nights maximum with 2 – 4 people. The occasional 5 – 10 night trip is thrown in every now and then so I didn't want to spend a fortune on something that I wouldn't be constantly using. I do not have a battery pack (aka portable power station) so I plan to run the RV45 entirely off my vehicle. My first criteria was that the fridge had to perform (as an unpowered cooler) comparably to my current cooler, an Igloo MaxCold 38L. I couldn’t find any data on this so I decided to order the fridge and test myself. Both coolers were placed next to each other in my garage. I solidly froze 2 16.9oz water bottles and placed 1 in each cooler. Then I observed how the 2 bottles compared to each other at 6, 12, 24, and 30 hours. Pictures included. 6 hours: bottles are identical. 12 hours: RV45 bottle has melted slightly faster, difference looks be to 5% or less. 24 hours: RV45 bottle has a sliver of ice, MaxCold bottle is still 20% ice. 30 hours: Both bottles have no ice, the RV45 bottle is about ambient temperature, the MaxCold bottle is slightly cooler. This was a satisfactory result for me. If I were using the Igloo, I’d have to purchase more ice, dump out the water, and then refill it at around the 24-hour mark. With the RV45, I could just start up the vehicle and let it run to cool back down with no melted ice to worry about. Another criteria on my list was for the fridge to fit under the cargo cover of a 4th gen 4Runner (to prevent against car prowlers) and to open without having to remove the fridge from the vehicle. I wasn’t able to easily find dimensions while shopping. I measured the fridge after I received it, the overall dimensions (Length x Width x Height) are: 27” x 16” x 19” (closed) 27” x 17” x 33” (open). The RV45 does fit under the cargo cover and will fully open without having to remove it from vehicle. The last criteria would be build quality and reliability. I can’t really comment on either without more time using it. Will update review once I put it through its paces this upcoming summer. Peeking through the vents I did see that there is a HUAYI DL19H compressor inside. Included are 2 baskets, a cord that fits into the RV45 with a male cigarette lighter plug on the other end, and an AC to DC brick that goes from the wall outlet to automobile auxiliary power outlet. You just daisy chain both cords if you want to use it on AC power when at home or in a hotel. Moving forward for trips that are 24 hours or less I will continue to use my cooler with gel ice packs as it’s lighter and therefore easier to load/unload. For trips over 24 hours I will be using the RV45. If you need this by a certain date, order it well in advance. I had a long road trip planned and hoped to use this on that trip, so I paid extra for faster shipping. The fridge ships from Southern California, I live in Seattle. I placed an order for the fridge 10 days before my planned trip. The shipping label was created 3 days after I placed my order. The fridge was shipped 8 days after I ordered. FedEx delivered the fridge 13 days after I ordered. I had already left, so I had to have a friend receive the item for me while I was away. ... show more

  • Just torture tested this fridge for 2 weeks and it never failed me once
Size: RV45S
This fridge is awesome. If you are looking for an overland fridge that is worth the money, look no further. Plenty of space to fit everything, and the power draw is so minimal it's honestly pretty incredible. I'd say the temperature readout vs actuality is probably off by a degree or two, but that's not a big deal to me. I just torture tested this fridge during a 2 week offroading and camping trip in Ouray and Moab. This thing got bounced around, went through ambient temperatures ranging from 30*F to 110*F and never skipped a beat. Used daily, and never had an issue. The ONLY gripe I have is that I wish it included a separate cord that went straight into a conventional wall outlet, as opposed to the cig lighter plug adapter that goes to the conventional outlet. This connection would separate from time to time on really rough trails and I'd have to plug it back in to get the compressor running again. That being said, the insulation of the fridge worked well, as anytime I would catch this issue, it would only be raised by 3-4 degrees F at most. I would buy this fridge again, and I can't see why I would ever spend the money for an ARB or Dometic when something like this does just as well. ... show more

I love my set power! I think I've had it almost 2 years now. It is heavy though! The only downside is the plug that connects with the 12v thingy, it will come loose and power goes off. I keep my fridge plugged in 24\7 to my inverter but if cord gets moved you have make sure connection is still good. Next time I will go with a duel zone. But I am overall pleased. I only paid $376 for mine. ... show more
