This travel litter box is lightweight and foldable, making for easy storage, but I definitely recommend liners because it is not that easy to clean if you do not have liners. My cat likes to dig to the bottom and urinate and this definitely was not 100% leak proof without using a liner. It IS very handy though. This folds into a small, 6"x4" rectangle, with a clasp to keep it closed. That is the best part of this, as I personally don't need a travel litter box often. As for using it as a litter box - The material seemed waterproof enough. I had no leakage. My cat did kick some litter up over the edge, because it is short, but that is to be expected. We don’t actually have a cat, but we do have a toy breed dog that travels around the country with us. He is litter box trained, which comes in very helpful while traveling. This travel “box” folds up compactly (9.5” x 6” x 2.5”), making it very easy to pack and take along. It is sturdy when popped open, and I appreciate that it has a second snap to secure the strap when both open or closed. The sidewall only measures 5” tall, but that hasn’t been a problem for us. We use it with artificial grass on top of a potty pad, so I can’t speak to how waterproof it is, but the material is very easy to wipe clean from surface gunk.
