  • Fun!
Style: E2-15.5 Miles
These are really fun and look nice, although they do not go over 12 mph. I’m only 100 lbs and ride on smooth flat roads everywhere but still will not exceed 12 mph…a bummer but okay. I can get a good hour and 15 minutes on this with full charge, just cruising around non-stop which is pretty awesome the battery is great! Not too bumpy and is very sturdy, it has become my new addiction. ... show more

  • Excellent e-scooter for $300. Perfect choice for beginners.
Style: E2-15.5 Miles
This is my first e-scooter. I've been using this it for about 2 weeks now. I use to ride around at my local park and to commute to work. I have around 63 miles on it and here are my thoughts. °°° I will keep this page updated as I use my scooter throughout the year °°° °°° Latest update: June 13 2023 °°° ::: Build Quality ::: The build quality is excellent. The stem uses a 2-step mechanism that prevents it from unfolding while you are riding it. This was one of my concerns because budget scooters seem to have this issue going by a few comments from other brands. I'm glad Segway addressed this. I've had no issues so far. ::: Packaging ::: The scooter was packaged well. The product box has plenty of padding. There shouldnt be any way for it to be damaged/dented during shipping. ::: Screen ::: The screen displays your battery life, mph, and if you have cruise control activated. And it's clear. Even under a sunny Florida day. ::: Headlight/Brake light ::: The scooter has a built in headlight and brake lights (they flash when you brake). Hats off to Segway. The headlight pattern has a similar design to a car where the hotspot is designed to illuminate your forward path and provide some lighting just ahead of you. It's better than other brands that prefer to have a spotlight. These lights are intergrated with the battery and have a negligible affect on it's range. ::: Ride Comfort ::: Unfortunately this is where this scooter takes a hit. I'll first add that the board has a good amount of space for your feet and for you to maneuver on. The rubber padding also gives you excellent grip. There is no suspension given it's budget price. You have puncture proof tires which means no maintenance. But it gives you a rougher ride compared to other scooters. The roads I take at the park and my commute to work are well to decently maintained. But a road non sealed cracked asphalt road will feel rough. Id say avoid this scooter if your local roads are not maintained. But otherwise it's fine ! ::: Weight ::: It weighs 30 pounds. That's not bad ! I think most people can handle it. If you have to go up a single flight of stairs you'll be fine but anymore and it's going to suck for you. ::: Wet roads ::: I took a downpour on my ride from work (I'm in Florida) and I didn't slip. My shoes gripped the rubber board well. And the internals were not fried due to water intrusion. This board is water resistant. So time will tell if it holds up. ::: Charging ::: Slow. It takes several hours. But that's okay, it's better for the battery. And if barely warms up. Any faster would reduce it's life span. ::: Registration ::: You need to register with the Segway app to unlock it's full potential. It's easy enough. But I had initial issues. I ended up connecting it through Bluetooth settings on my phone. Then connecting it with the Segway app. No issues ever since. ::: Range ::: I take this to and from work. I am 5'7" and weight 170 lbs. Here's what I get: 12 mph = 11.5-12 miles of range. My job is 5.2 miles from my home. So when I get to work I have 60% left. When I return home. I have between 10-20%. (And yes there is a cruise control thankfully) this is on par with what Segway states. There is a "D" mode that maxes out at 9mph. Which should get you the 15 miles of range. But I'll need to do further testing. ! Please note. I live and commute on mainly flat roads. If you have plenty of hills. Your range will drop greatly. Overall I'm happy with this range since it perfect matches what I need. ::: Issues ::: None so far :::::: Final Opinion? :::::: This is an excellent scooter. It's fast enough I can enjoy a nice ride around at my local park with lots of smooth walking/biking trails. I can also take it to work in 30 minutes. It feels like time flies by since I'm listening to music and staying alert with drivers around me. Although I'd say I'd be happier with the E2+ which goes 15mph. But my next upgrade will be a scooter that can go 20mph. This E2 tops out at 12 mph. And that's enough to go without wearing a helmet and elbow/knee pads. I had 3 instances where I wasn't quick enough to adjust my center of mass so I went off the scooter and onto the road/grass. You need to learn how to fall off this scooter. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be fine and can recover quickly. But be careful taking turns too sharply. These wheels are not designed for that. Take sharp turns carefully. This is the perfect beginner scooter for commuting to work. Giving it to your kids. Or just driving around. Do I have regrets ? Nah. This is the perfect entry level price to give you a feel for escooters and if you want to eventually upgrade. Though ... I'm having so much fun .. that now I want the 20 mph escooters. But those WILL require you wear protection or you are heading to a medical clinic after you wipe out. So for now, I'm good. ::: should I buy it ? ::: Yes! It's so much fun. ... show more

  • Save your time buy this one.
Lots of scooters available, this one is great, worth the money and sold by a company with a proven name. Purchased for a little human but I use it and love it. Holds charge, sport mode easily gets 205 lbs to 19 to 20 mph, and it's fun.

  • An attractive, but very basic electric scooter
The Segway ES1L Escooter is my 2nd escooter, as I've previously purchased the HiBoy SL2 Pro, which I still have. The two escooters are in different classes, as the Segway is more of an entry level. After reading many reviews on the Segway ES1L, I knew what to expect before I purchased it. Still, I found myself wishing more was included with the escooter. But having paid $299 for the ES1L, I am comfortable for what I got for the money. Still, it would have been nice to have something as basic as a bell on the escooter. Pros: Design - This scooter was introduced a few years ago, but the design I feel is still modern, and even better the newer escooters costing much more. Weight - One of the reasons I purchased this escooter was I was looking for something easier to carry around than my HiBoy SL2 Pro. And at about 25 pounds, the Segway ES1L is much lighter, and more comfortable to carry. Suspension - I was pleasantly surprised by how soft the ride was over small bumps, as the tires are not air-filled, and are relatively small. There is a cheap sounding "clunking" noise that's made when the ES1L goes over some bumps...and it can get bouncy. But it's not a harsh ride, and I prefer it over the HiBoy, even though the HiBoy has bigger 10 inch tires, and cost $215 more. Folding - One of the easier escooters to fold. Simply step on the latch in the front, and the scooter folds. You can hook the top half to the rear fender, making the scooter very easy to carry. To open the scooter back up, just reverse those steps. Braking - The electronic brake felt pretty strong, and is easy to use. Cons: Speed - I knew before purchasing the escooter, the speed was limited to 12.4 mph (20 kph). But still, I find myself wishing it was made to reach 15-16 mph. My HiBoy goes 19-20mph. Range - Probably the most disappointing part of the escooter is the pitiful range. For a scooter that only goes 12-13 mph, it would have been nice to be able to get more than the 12.4 miles per battery charge. Real life range is most likely 7-9 miles. Safety features - Missing a tail lamp, and a bell is disappointing. I understand wanting to keep costs down, but these two features would make riding more safe, and should not have been left out. I mean, how much would it have added a bell...something tricycles come with? Neutral: Fun to ride - The ES1L is fun to ride, but the lack of speed makes it less enjoyable. There is no cruise control, which would have made the ride, greater. Who is this scooter for? The Segway ES1L is perfect for those just starting out with electronic scooters, as it's not powerful, easy to carry, and easy to ride. The ES1L is also perfect for someone looking for an escooter for short commutes. Who would not want this scooter? If you are looking for an escooter with fast speed and/or great mileage, look elsewhere. This is a basic escooter, and is priced that way. If you are looking for an escooter to ride on busy, or active city streets, I would pass on this, as it will not be able to keep up with traffic. An exception would be if you live in a town with bike lanes, or if you are okay with not being able to keep up with traffic when riding your scooter. If there was an option to give 3.5 stars, I would have do so. But because of the $299 price, as well as the other parts of this scooter I like, I give the Segway ES1L, 4 stars. If this scooter was $350, or more, I would have given it 3 stars. ... show more
