So, I chose this topper in hopes that it will help with the back and hip pain, that I wake up with on a daily basis. I have just purchased a new Ashley mattress, and although it is nice , it is a little too firm all the reviews that I read about this topper were , for the most part, great reviews. With the exception of the buyers complaining about the smell . In fact, while waiting for it to arrive, I had almost convinced myself to return it, immediately, without even opening it. Having said that, I received it last night, and just put it onto my bed. maybe Sealy has taken notice of the reviews stating " horrible chemical smell" , and made some changes. This topper did not have an overpowering smell. Yes, it has a slight smell, but nothing that would be intrusive to a person. At least not me. I will not be able to review the comfort level, until tonight when I go to sleep on it. And will update my overall review at that time. I mostly just wanted to address the odor issue, so that anyone wishing to purchase this topper would not be deterred based on those reviews. Will also update my stars later. UPDATE! I am returning this topper, sadly, because I really wanted it to be what I needed. I suffer from back and hip pain, this made it worse! Not better, and I found that there is no " cooling effect" to this sealy " chill " topper. I've done nothing but toss and turn all night, every night since putting this on my bed. I am THRILLED with the quality of this item. I have a king-size premium (expensive) mattress that is way too firm for me. I purchased a different foam topper from BB&B that was over $200 but never gave me comfortable sleep. I always woke up stiff. For a long time I just figured that was the best I could do. I finally decided to try a different brand of topper before cutting my losses and getting a whole new mattress. I've had this Sealy topper for a week and I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. My back is no longer sore when I wake up. It is not too mushy or too hard. For me it's a GAME CHANGER. I am sleeping better and waking up refreshed. That being said, I think everyone has different preferences in mattresses, so I wouldn't expect it to be perfect for everyone. I'm 5'7,160 pounds and my wife (who also loves it) is of similar stature and for us I can't imagine a more comfortable bed. This was the best money I've spent in a long time. I can't discern if the cooling feature is different than what I'm used to or not. It's definitely not too hot, and MAYBE it's cooler than what I'm used too? I think the laws of thermodynamics limit how much ANY bedding material can make you feel cooler. Oh and the smell that all the reviews mention...yes it smells weird bad out of the box. I let it air out in a separate room for two days and then still smelled through the covers when I layed down. It is finally dissipated and not a problem anymore. I think that the temporary annoyance of a strange smell is a price worth paying for the comfort that this provides. ... show more

I bought this to replace an aging memory foam topper that was falling apart. The problem with my old topper was it was extremely hot. I needed something that was cooler. This is a little thicker than my old 2-inch topper. It took a couple of days to completely flatten out until then it was a bit hard. But I am so happy with this purchase. The topper is soft especially with the included pillow top mattress cover. And it keeps me cool. This with a fan blowing on me I freeze and I love it. This makes my bed so comfortable I can't tell you. I have a Sealy Posturepedic mattress. But, I bought a harder one. Adding this topper to it, I can't tell you how comfortable it is. WOW. Shop around and get a good price. I got a great deal on Amazon, BUT, the first time I bought the topper they sent me a single bed size when I had ordered a queen. There was some back and forth as they wanted more money for the Queen size, but I had bought the Queen from the beginning. I said send my money back and I'll let the world know about your scam. 2 days later the correct was on my door step! I of course sent back the single, a bit of a hassle but worth it. ... show more

I just bought a new mattress that is great but, I needed it a little softer. So, instead of going thru the hassle of reselecting another mattress and the restocking charge, I went the topper route. After reading tons of reviews I selected this from Sealy. I know & trust Sealy products to have a good product. Although people are complaining it is not a 4" topper as stated on the header, it does state it is a 3" topper in the description. A bit more pricey than others and not as much a others also. Think Tempur and the like. Reviewer also complained about the strong smell out of the box. People, even bed sheets have a smell from the factory. I just unrolled it from the pack and let it air out for 2 days before using it. Overall, I have a better sleep experience and I am satisfied of this purchase. ... show more
