  • Great All-Around Waterproof Spray
Size: 10.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 6)
So, I have used a variety of waterproofing products before -- mainly for the purpose of treating coats, boots, and camping material. One thing to always look for in any waterproofing product is a statement of intended use. Scotchgard heavy duty water shield is a good all-around product for re-waterproofing or providing additional waterproofing protection for materials and products already designed to protect from the elements. Examples include certain types of leather, nylon, polyester, etc. This product will not magically waterproof porous or water absorbent material. Case in point, I read that someone was disappointed with the product because they tried to waterproof their pillowcase and was shocked when it didnt. Couple thoughts on that...if you're in a situation where your pillowcase and/or other gear is getting soaked, it's likely that no amount of waterproofing is going to help you (e.g. a monsoon, falling in a river, lake, or stream, or a 40 day deluge (aka also see "The Flood" story in Genesis). Additionally, why would you want to lay your face on a product that is synthetically made to repel water and that has a poison control warning if ingested or sprayed in your eyes? Yeah...moving on. I most recently bought and used this product to re-waterproof a rainjacket/windbreaker I have owned for about two years and to help protect a new tent I bought a week ago. I used a total of four cans for an entire 6 person tent and jacket. The product took only a short amount of time to dry (was dry to the touch in about an hour or two...and I soaked my jacket and tent/rainfly with this stuff), and it was put to the test not but three to four hours after application. As with the many other times I have used this product, it worked beautifully. It literally poured down rain with wind gusts of 40 and 50 mph, complemented by lightning, thunder, and even a little hail thrown into the mix, for two days straight. Not a drop of water in my new tent, despite the ground being completely soaked and the appocoliptic torrent of rain that was dumped on me. And neither my tent, nor my jacket, were discolored or stained by the product. Now, as for cons, there are few. The product does need to be reapplied at least once yearly if being used on gear that is used on a fairly regular basis. I camp all four seasons, so my jackets, camp gear, and boots are genuinely put to the test; however, it's unreasonable to think that when you waterproof something that it will last forever. Also, there is a slight odor to the product when first applied, so be sure to apply in a safe, well-ventilated space. I usually apply outside or in my garage with the garage doors open. The odor is similar to WD-40, so oily mixed with a bit of manliness and can-do attitude. But what waterproof spray doesnt have some kind of chemical odor? The final verdict: when used the way it is intended to be used, Scotchgard Heavy Duty Water Shield works like a charm and will likely make your life a whole heck of a lot more comfortable for those occasions when staying dry means the difference between being comfortable or being cold, damp, and miserable. You will have to reapply at least once a year if your gear is being used regularly. There is an odor to the stuff, but wears off eventually...usually a few days or less if left to dry in a well-ventilated space. The product is definitely a value and worth the buy when comparing the low cost to the high reward of staying as dry as one possibly can in the elements. Cheers! ... show more

  • Perfect for scotch-guarding
Size: 13 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I picked this up to help me scotch guard my rain jacket after I had washed it. It is easy to apply, works as expected and the quality of the scotch guard is great. It dries quickly and evenly and has a pleasant smell that isn't too bad. Good for jackets, coats, lawn furniture covers and even boots or shoes. ... show more

  • Water repellent for our tents
Size: 10.5 Ounce (Pack of 2)
We used it prior to going camping. It helps as a secondary water repellent as we were preparing for a high wind and rainy weekend. This product is very strong smelling when applying, therefore definitely apply in a well ventilated area and follow instructions. Dry time was faster than expected and overall worked well for our soaking trip. Our tents kept us dry. Not sure of longevity of the product as we only used our tent 3 times this past summer due to the weather being wet. Overall, is say it works well. ... show more

  • Spray it on everything!
Size: 13 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I absolutely love this stuff! I am an avid backpacker and I spray this in everything. I spray it on my daily stuff as well like shoes, bags, jackets etc. I would say test the fabric first but I have not had any issues with any fabric. It seems very effective. I went camping through New England this summer for 10 days and it rained almost everyday. I had no issues with what I had sprayed it beads up. It depends on how long it last based on how much rain, snow it endured but I usually repay before trips. Drys very quickly except for the tent but I sprayed a lot on that. Will purchase more for sure. ... show more

  • Good Deal
Size: 10.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 4)
Have used this for years on my tent, boots, shoes, hats and jackets. Be sure to apply OUTDOORS as the directions State. This product Works as described, without making the materials stiff. Nothing sticks to this and makes cleaning so much easier and the price can't be better.

  • It works.
Size: 10.5 Ounce (Pack of 2)
This is a must to have when you are camping. I have a side awning on my camping van and it’s on the older side. I sprayed this on it and it worked fantastic. We did have some heavy rain and it kept us dry. 👍

  • Spray is not soaking into the tent fabric!!
Size: 10.5 Ounce (Pack of 2)
On 2/3 of the tent the spray soaked in just fine. But on the other third it beads up and does not soak in like it's supposed to. I'm referring to the application of the waterproofing spray which is not soaking into the fabric. This is a very cheap Walmart tent with a 100% polyester tag so I know there is no previous waterproofing. What are most upset about is that there is nothing in the instructions saying what to do if this happens. I can already see that it's going to leave visible drop patterns on the fabric when it dries and I don't know if this section will be waterproof or not. Update: after completely drying the spots aren't as noticeable as I thought they would be. Still haven't tested the water resistance. Will come back and update when I get a chance. ... show more
