  • Powerfull
This is a powerful charger. I started on 12v 40a and the voltage was just above 17volts to push that much amperage, a little too high in my opinion, but it will charge fast with that. I dropped to amperage to the 20a setting and the voltage dropped to about 14.5v. That seems a little more acceptable to me. The fan on this is silent, so far I have never heard the fan kick up to were it is audible. You can feel air flowing from this unit and if you put you head right there you can hear it. In a shop you will never hear this run. I like this type of charger for when the voltage has dropped below what an automatic charger will not even recognize you are connected to a battery. This seems like a pretty good charger in my opinion. ... show more

  • Nice manual charger with caveats
So you really need to be careful with this charger, it has a timer for a reason. Checking the voltages while charging, I really wouldn't recommend using anything other than the 10A charging mode for any modern vehicles. The 10A charging mode resulted in roughly 13.9V, which is perfectly safe for modern vehicles. The 20A showed around 15V, 40A showed 15.9V, and 225A showed 16.9V (this really should only be used if the battery is completely dead). These higher voltages (anything over 15V) can actually fault out modules in newer cars and in some cases prevent you from being able to start your car. The charger is ready to go out of the box, no assembly required, and seems to be well built. Quality brand name and quality charger, but take care in charging your batteries with it. I also wish the ammeter was more useful, as it really doesn't tell you much--a well-calibrated meter with actual amperage designations would be nice (not just 0 to 60). That being said, it is nice to see an analog meter which is more responsive than a digital ammeter. ... show more

  • Manual charger, great start assist
This unit is strictly manual operation and very easy to use. Only for 12 and 6 volt batteries. Has a 225 amp start assist that will give a bad battery a big push to get you started. How well boost modes work depend on the condition of the battery you are trying to help. This one has almost twice the boost power of their other units. In my experience, some automatic battery chargers will not let you do battery charging at he level you desire. With this one you merely set the unit to one of three 12 volt settings, 10, 20, or 40 amps and set the timer. It is a small unit that is easy to lift and carry, has small wheels to roll around, good clamps, but I do think the cords are on the short side. The power cord is not very long either. Handle slides up and down and unit will transport in trunk of a small car if necessary. I have owned other Schumacher products and like their quality and variety of products. ... show more

  • Works, but short cords
This 225 Cranking Amp 6V/12V Manual Timer-Controlled Battery Wheel Charger does look as advertised and it does work, however, they could definitely improve some aspects of it. First of all, even though I do like the alligator clamps they provide, I definitely do not like how short are the cords that they are attached to. On top of the short power cord that severely limits the locations where I can use it. Also not a fan that I have to use it only with the timer. I would prefer to have the timer and no timer option built in. It is pretty much all plastic made, but it is still relatively heavy so I do appreciate it having a handle and wheels to make it much easier to move around. It is expensive so I expected better for that high price point. ... show more

  • Worked great right out of the box.
The day this arrived, we put it to the test. Compared to our slightly older Schumacher wheeled charger, this was a slightly lighter and mostly plastic version. It also does not have the option to override the timer function like our older model. The max time that can be set is 135 minutes, which isn't enough time for a deeply discharged set of 4 semi truck batteries. I do appreciate the safety aspect of it, but would have been nice to set on hold for those occasions. The other feature that is nice compared to less expensive options is that this will put out the power to a deeply discharged battery. Some of the newer chargers want to sense the power and polarity of the battery before starting the charging cycle. Overall good quality from a recognized name in the battery charger business. ... show more

  • Good charger and maintainer.
This one has two times the lift force of their different units. As far as I can tell, some programmed battery chargers won't allow you to do battery charging at he level you want. With this one you simply set the unit to one of three 12 volt settings 40 amps and set the clock. This attempts to begin, or to charge my vehicle on a clock. It additionally can work with 6V batteries. Schumacher Electric appears to be deep rooted with numerous items. A little unit is not difficult to lift and convey, has little wheels to move around, great clips, yet I truly do think the ropes are on the short side. The power line isn't extremely lengthy by the same token. Handle slides all over and unit will ship in trunk of a little vehicle if fundamental. ... show more

  • Great Charger - Does Exactly What It Claims it Will Do
I have either had or used other Schumacher before. In fact, they are so reliable, I gave a battery charger to my son for his garage. My motorcycle often needs jumped and sometimes the battery needs to be charged. I just don't ride it enough to keep the battery in its best condition. When I hooked it up to my bike's battery, which is under the gas tank, it started right up like it usually does when the battery is charged. I'll end up using it for my cars too, but the reason I ordered it was so I can ride in the wind, without having to plan ahead and jump or charge my battery. ... show more

  • Very functional battery charger
I really like that this charger is on wheels with a pull handle. It has a 135 minute timer. It will charge 6 and 12 volt batteries. It has a 225 amp engine start function. Schumacher have been making great products for years. Never had any problems with their chargers.
