  • Love the ease of the height adjustment. Nice product!
Size: 12 x 12 Inch
I have mild arthritis in my hands that can make many products a pain to set up. Not the Rural 365 chick brooder plate heater. You pull out a nicely fabricated tab, insert the leg through the plate with the black side down, and release the tab. The tab is not flimsily built, and I think it will not be prone to failure. This item only consumes 20 watts. It is warm, not hot. I set it up to test several hours ago in anticipation of being a new chicken mom again in a week. I wish it were a little warmer only because my house is so cold. But the truth is that the temperature is probably perfect. Their little heads could actually touch the heater plate without being burned. In my case I will continue to use a heated seed mat in part of the brooder. This way I don't have to stress over the possibility of a clamp light falling down and causing a fire. Another thing I really like about this product is that the flat, unheated top has a slight texture, not plastic slippery, I know they will be jumping on the top very soon and the texture will be adequate to make their footing feel secure. I am glad I purchased this product. ... show more

  • Happy Chicks in a safe place
For our first time hatching our own chicks we were somewhat horrified by the idea of using a heat lamp. After some research we decided to go for this heat plate and couldn't be happier. Instructions are very clear and simple. Assembly was quick and heating plate worked like a charm without being a fire hazard . Happy growing chicks, Happy owners . Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Great item!
To be honest I have never saw the need for one of these and never thought I would purchase one but I admit it, I was wrong about the Heating Plate. I just incubated 9 eggs and ended up with only 2 surviving chicks and their Mothers were not interested since they didn't sit on the eggs so small hatches are notoriously problematic and the Chicks usually don't do very well if you have less than 6 so I wanted to increase their odds of survival and that's why I bought the heating plate. It doesn't get too hot to touch at any point, it's VERY safe and my grandkids have all touched it, it's just warm- not hot. It only heats up to the body temps of a normal Momma Hen. You put the legs in and keep it low enough to allow the bottom of the plate to touch the babies while they are relaxed and laying down and they will be as snug as lil' bugs. I use wood shavings for bedding and it is safe for straw too. I fully credit this device for saving my chicks because when it arrived they were not looking too good but after the hour it took the plate to heat up they became calm & content. Sometimes chicks need more than just the heat lamp, this item provides them comfort & safety and that makes a big difference because Chickens are naturally nervous creatures and their ability to relax and feel safe does play a role in their survival. I have them indoors and keep the Heating plate on 24/7 and the (white, not red) Brooding light on during the day and that has worked perfectly. If you are hatching chicks this Winter I am recommending this item for clutches up to 10-12 chicks. The clear plastic cone attachment keeps them off the top of it and keeps it clean and the feather attachments mimic Momma Hen but I didn't order those and this basic plate unit is really impressive on it's own. 5 stars. UPDATE: My chicks are big enough now to get on top of it and I was constantly cleaning it off so I went ahead and ordered the cone shaped attachment, the model with the feathers (you can find it in my other reviews) and that stopped them from perching. It doesn't actually hurt anything for them to sit on it because the top doesn't get warm but it was quickly getting covered with chickie poo and I wanted to keep it nice and neat so that solved that problem. You can easily make something yourself to eliminate this problem but I wanted to be able to check it out anyway just to see what I thought of it and the feathers sold me on it. *If my review helped inform you about this item please hit the Helpful button & let me know!* ... show more

  • Safe and happy
Size: 12 x 12 Inch
I liked it so much that I bought a second one. It’s important to note that it does not heat the area underneath it. It’s warm to the chicks backs like their mama’s underside. So the height is very important but it’s easy to adjust. I feel a whole lot better now when leaving my house. The only thing I don’t like about it is how it interferes with chick gazing. ... show more

  • Great!!
It’s worked great for me had zero losses better than the heat lamp and the chicks enjoy it

  • Perfect
Works just as it should. Easy to assemble and so much safer than a heat lamp. The sticker, stating which side is up, is on the wrong side but it's easy to tell it's wrong. Going to order a larger plate for my spring chicks.

  • It’s hot!!
Size: 12 x 12 Inch
I purchased this chick warmer hoping it would be safer than a heat lamp. It’s super simple to setup. I plugged it in and waited an hour like instructions said. Before putting chicks in the box, I put my hand on the warming plate that would be exposed to chicks. The plate was so hot it was nearly burning my hand. I’m not sure why it needs to be that hot. It could easily burn a tender little chick if it came in contact with their skin for any amount of time. Not having a heat lamp, I am without another heat option right now. I raised up the heater a little higher so chicks can’t touch it and get burned. The heat side needs to be facing down to warm chicks when they crawl underneath. (Like being under mother hen) I noticed in customer review pictures someone had it upside down and if chicks stand on the heating plate they are guaranteed to get burned. ... show more
