  • Does it's job
Well to start off, I put the bag on a 1300 mile test thru dry, hot, wet weather and it put up with it all. There were a couple of blemishes after the long drive, but nothing torn and it held up great against the elements. The two things that I hated about the cargo bag, was the protective mat never stayed in place, and flew off somewhere after our third fill up. I adjusted the mat 2 times at a rest stop due to annoying flapping on the roof, turns out it was the cargo bag. No matter how I adjusted the luggage on top, excessive flapping against the roof happened. Some times more than others, but maybe it's because at times I was driving between 75-85 mph. Assembling was pretty straight forward. I have a fix that worked for with wet weather. Since the straps are tightened against the weather stripping of the car, you will experience some wind noice, and if it does rain you will experience some water coming in thru the straps. What I did against the rain was spray the hell of the straps with water proof spray and part of the headliner the straps were resting upon. I didn't experience any water coming in. ... show more

  • Excellent, Practical Purchase!
My brilliant, engineering-minded brother was certain that this comparatively low-tech bag would never make it through my 1200 mile move, but it did, with flying colors! Everything packed into the Whistler (tons of my clothes) arrived in perfect condition. Despite pouring rain for two whole days of my trip, not one drop made it into the bag! The straps, however, were utterly saturated, and did drip into the car. Nothing that a towel and some paper towels didn’t remedy! I give the Whistler two enthusiastic thumbs up! It allowed me to load everything I wanted to carry into (and onto) my car; without it I’d have had to leave many things behind. Purchase without trepidation - this thing really works! ... show more

  • Quality car top carrier for those of us without roof racks.
This car top carrier went from San Francisco to Boston through rain, wind, and snow loaded down with camping gear and luggage without a hiccup. Some things to note: 1. Because the straps go through the car, it is going to compress the door seals causing air leakage and leading to lots of noise. 2. Unlike some others, who reported leakage along the straps. I went through heavy rain and snow and did not experience any leakage. 3. Make sure you position the strap in a place where they're not touching your head. Pushing the sides of the carrier in and tightening further can prevent any strap vibration that can occur (and is really annoying). ... show more

  • It can be made to work ok
This bag works well enough but it has problems that you have to address. Pros: -The BAG is waterproof if you follow the directions (front is front, back is back) and it doesn't rip/puncture. -Fits quite a bit of stuff if loaded correctly. Cons: -The straps are the crap cam buckle type that comes undone easily and these are particularly weak and the strap material slick so they are worthless. Either tie them in place as if it was just a rope or replace them with a buckle strap (think heavy duty version of a backpack's strap buckle) or a ratchet strap. -Regardless of the strap type you use it will probably be in your headspace the entire trip. We were lucky because I was able to drive the entire 5 hour trip while my husband reclined his seat enough to avoid the strap hitting his head the entire trip and I'm short enough it didnt matter. -The straps are also not waterproof. Meaning that they will wick water straight into your car and drip everywhere. As I mentioned before these straps run across both the front and back seats and are either right above your head or touching it. You'll need to either replace them with a waterproof strap or apply a waterproofing agent to the strap. Also pulls open the car doors weather seal allowing water to be pushed in that way too at high speeds. Minor things to note: -bag fares best when filled out. Flapping will destroy it fast just like anything else, it is important to keep it taut. We filled it with light, bulky items like clothes duffels and light boxes then used blankets and pillows to fill out the rest. -Most cars without racks have a very achievable max roof load of around 100 lbs so dont overload it. -it will obviously affect how the car handles. Like I said, mine worked fine because I had weatherproof ratchet straps on hand but there were still annoyances withe the strap placement. ... show more

  • Awesome Roof Bag!!
This is absolutely the best for anyone who needs more cargo space. I was able to load 3 big suitcases into the roof-bag and still had enough room to put 3 mid sized hand bags. It was easy to install. The straps with the metal buckles worked great We traveled into snow and rain and everything stayed completely dry. I am very pleased with this carrier. ... show more

  • Successful cross-country drive!
Ordered this bag as a last-minute necessity while moving across the country. I followed the directions and completed the set-up by myself, and as a single 29-year old female, was very happy with the ease of doing so. This bag went through snow, wind, sand, rain. Didn't move while on the top of my car, at all...even with a little off-roading involved. I went as fast at 85 mph at times (although I don't encourage this, this bag withstood the speed) and drove 2,000 miles. The performance of my car wasn't altered, although I can't speak for gas mileage. Would absolutely recommend this bag. Very happy with the performance. ... show more

Quality is amazing. Zipper and materials look like they'll last for at least a few dozen uses, with no problem. My only downside is that it kills gas mileage but I used it on a plug in hybrid so that's to be expected. Fits LOTS of stuff. I fit 2 large suitcases, 3 carry on size, a cooler, a playpen, and a small step ladder (to help me get at my stuff). I'm very satisfied with my purchase. ... show more
