Should I Buy It?

While there are minor grievances about the sustain pedal and the app, the positive aspects far outweigh these drawbacks, making it a highly recommended purchase.

  • Best Keyboard Action & Sound in Its Price Range
I upgraded to this Roland digital piano from a smaller 76 key keyboard by Casio. The differences are remarkable. The Roland keyboard is widely recognized as the closest in feel to that of an acoustic grand piano and is much firmer than simpler keyboards like the smaller Casio. That is recommended for developing the best muscle memory in the hands and fingers as you practice. The sound also much richer and fuller. The speakers are excellent and provide plenty of volume. The only real negative is that the included sustain pedal is small and plastic and too light in weight to stay in place. Fortunately, my old sustain pedal that I had purchased for use with the Casio keyboard appears to work fine. Roland sells a three-pedal unit, but it is only designed to work with their keyboard stand and might be difficult to configure without purchasing the stand. ... show more

  • My husband loves it!
I bought this for my husband because his old keyboard broke. He says this is the best keyboard he’s ever owned. The keys are kind of weighted or something so it plays more like a piano. Hubby adores it.

  • Heavy hand user go to
After long winter with rain my original piano requires some tuning as I start to browse for alternative keyboard around web. After research i have my hand on this one as one of my preferences (the touch is real). I spam left harmony quite a lot and was able to endure and bring the volume of the sound as expected. To the fact its actually better sense than an actual piano. Not so much on the higher tune though (the sound is little off to me). I am still saving for the software which is going to be huge upgrade to the keyboard. the default piano tuning and sound is very questionable to amateur like me with perfect pitch. The app for it its not exactly user friendly, and with limited amount of button youd be lost without taking some notes to get familiar with. would i say its for beginner? no, due to its price with just a little more you can get yourself a used piano; so really depends on what you want. Not a perfect 5, but enough for its price range before moving onto Nord brand for higher tier. ... show more

  • Very nice KB minus no mode status an terrible sustain pedal.
I like the voices, not so much the downward facing speakers, OK on hard floors, but the available line outs can fix that. Personally, the key action was my biggest concern, me always on an acoustic tall upright or grand. I am not disappointed. It has great soft and loud touch feel and response, except the harpsichord voicing. I noticed that on long sustain, the pitch can drift upwards towards a 1/2 step, maybe some acoustics do that also. Good tremolo or Leslie sound on many tone selection. I haven’t had this for even a full day, so I’ll need to drill through the user manual and I haven’t tried their user ap which should give more control. My biggest issue is that it doesn’t indicate which voice you’re using. There should be an LED above the voicing mode currently selected. Especially for play testing voicing. You can’t tell if it got the change you need until you play a note, which could be too late in a gig. One more thing, the music stand is too short. It’s 7-1/2 inches tall(I measured it), all my printed sheet music, staff paper real book an whatever is 8-1/2 x 11. It should be taller, and wider would be even better. Overall, acoustically and mechanical a great tool. The sustain pedal is junk. First off, it’s binary, either on or off there’s no partia sustain as on an acoustic. It slides all over the floor, which could be fixed with rubber feet. I will be upgrading. Make sure you check pedal polarity, the Yamaha Fc3a pedal works backwards and has no polarity switch to fix this incompatibility, so it sustains until you push the pedal, thus backwards operation on this piano. I tried it and will be returning it. The Roland DP-10 fixed my pedal problem, then I go to amplification. I first got the Donner DA-35 and (without proper performance specification) worked pretty well, but I noticed heavier key sound and unwanted sympathetic harmonics, so I ordered the Roland RC-220 amp (again no performance specifications) to see where the problem was. The Roland amp did the same as the Donner, minus heavy key sound, but as to the ringing harmonics. Both not at typical sympathetic frequencies of the fundamental. Bad dissonance, mostly at F# below middle C. I e-mailed Roland and we will see. With their KB and amp you would think there is a fix. ... show more

  • I am in love with this Piano
I have been playing it for a few months and I love it. It sounds great with headphones and through monitors. The built in speakers are very nice for practice situations. Pros: It connects to the iPad and can control synths in the App Store with midi but also send that audio back through the keyboard speakers. Same thing with PC. The stock piano sound and electric piano sound are really nice. Cons: the sustain is kind of weird I don’t know how else to describe it. Sometimes it just abruptly ends and other times it sustains but reduces volume based on how long your foot was off the pedal. I’ve never seen another keyboard that does this but it’s not noticeable when connecting to a VST. The key action is nice but it is loud. If you try to play quietly without headphones the key action sound can compete with you ... show more

I bought this for my adult son (he’s 24) and he raves about it. He loves the sound and the feel of the keys. He said he can feel the vibration when he plays a note and added that it has an authentic feel. He loves, loves, loves it!
