  • Incredible piano - and not just for beginners!
Size: Compact Color: Retro Wood
After a recent move, I was looking for a new digital piano. I'm an intermediate/advanced player. Previously, I had a $900 Privia and was overall very satisfied with that, and was skeptical about this one because it is so much more affordable. I have to say, I like the Donner DDP-80 even more, for hundreds less than the Privia. PROS: - Weighted keys feel better than any other keyboard I've ever played - they have that heft/weight to them that most digital pianos lack. - Sound quality - it's just a beautiful sounding instrument. I usually play with headphones, but the times I've played out loud with the built in speakers, it has also sounded great. You get that "feel it in your chest" effect that usually only happens on the real thing. - Dynamics - holy moly, it really is like playing an acoustic piano - it is extremely responsive to touch and feels very natural. You can play very expressively. Also, the included 3-pedal works great (some older reviews mention the pedal didn't work upon arrival but they have since fixed whatever the issue was). - Easy to assemble - truly you just have to screw the legs on and tighten the music stand. Much easier than my last keyboard which had a bulky wooden console that took a long time to put together. Note that the legs are metal covered to look like wood grain - these are very sturdy legs. The piano doesn't move around at all when playing. - Aesthetics - not the most important thing by any means, but you have to admit it's just beautiful. It is exactly as pictured. CONS: - No bells & whistles - just one piano tone, no settings to fiddle with other than volume. I thought I might miss these features but I don't. If you just want to play piano, this is it. - No dust cover for the keys. Easy to fix with a scarf. Overall I'm just thrilled with this instrument! I was a little scared to buy from this company since they are newer and seem to exclusively sell online, but this particular model was a great purchase. And truly this isn't just for beginners - I think a piano player at any level would be impressed with the quality of this instrument. ... show more

  • Elegant design, decent sound, and well weighted keys make for an authentic experience
Size: Compact Color: Retro Wood
I owned an acoustic piano for many years before I had to sell it; as a result I’m very picky about the weight and action of my piano keys. This keyboard feels about as good as it gets for a non-acoustic piano. The keys have a pleasing weight and feel almost like the real thing. The piano only comes with one voice option (grand piano) with a MIDI output if you want more, but for regular play this is enough for me. The grand piano sound is rich and quite authentic, but I was disappointed to learn that the volume knob isn’t as smooth/incremental as you’d expect. It’s almost as if there are only three volume settings: quiet, medium, and exceedingly loud. I often use headphones so I suppose it’s not the biggest issue for me, but it felt like a design flaw. The keyboard came very well packaged and required very little assembling; just attach the legs (which are metal for sturdiness) and you’re good to go. Once assembled, it looks like a dream and matches my midcentury modern decor perfectly. The wood has a warm, reddish tone that I just love. It really is a thing of beauty. All in all I’m thrilled with this purchase; it’s an excellent value for any intermediate to advanced player who’s looking for the convenience of a keyboard with the feeling of an acoustic piano! ... show more

  • Loving it!
Size: Compact Color: Retro Wood
I am really happy with the purchase of this piano. I was on the fence for a long time, having learned on, grown up with and had my experiences with acoustic pianos. Classically trained and used to be forced to participate in recitals and competitions, which I did not really enjoy. Now I'm grown and had been away from any the piano for 30 years! I really wanted to get back into what I liked about playing. Just for me or captive friends... I had a truncated electric keyboard I received as a gift from someone who isn't a player. Well meaning, but horrible! I didn't like the fakeness of it, the electronic sounds, the fact that it wasn't 88 keys, etc. So I was nervous about this being that kind of experience. The first thing that warmed my heart about this was that depending on how hard or soft you strike a key, the note will be correspondingly loud or soft. So you can play with some feeling, convey a mood!! Crescendo effectively! I find the tones to be rich, warm and decidedly "piano" and not "keyboard". I appreciate that very much! Solid, won't require annual tuning, etc. Beautiful and sleek, not taking up a lot of space. The only thing that I am not entirely happy with is the sustain pedal. Mine needs to be depressed really hard for the desired effect and sometimes doesn't catch certain notes, making it sound clipped and harsh just when you are going for smooth and lingering. Not a huge deal, I'm not giving concerts, but worth mentioning. Yet and still, I love it and am enjoying this instrument thoroughly! ... show more
