  • Durable AF
Bought for a 1000+ round trip road trip to OBX from upstate NY. Here's the kicker, Instead of hauling this in the rear, I mounted it on a front-facing hitch hauler. The bag is tough as nails or as tough as 1000 miles of road debris, bugs, and heat. NC was so hot I was afraid the bag would melt at stess areas but it held up fine. It begs to be overstuffed. We jammed 2 king air mattresses, 5 pillows, bedding, comforters, and a ton of miscellaneous soft goods into the bag. There was still room to spare and it never blocked the headlights or turn signals on my F150. If you need one, just get it! Store in a cool/dry space. ... show more

  • Very durable and stayed dry
Used this for a three week trip from Michigan to Willow Alaska and back with no issues. Tornado storm in North Dakota, high winds for three days, and pressure washed in two different car washes to get mud and dirt off it. This is about half the height of the bag because we used up a lot of supplies. Over 9000 miles and the inside is clean and the outside will still shine once we was it for the third time. Our clothes stayed clean and dry. Awesome product. ... show more

  • Had it for seven years.
Bought in 2015. Did use it on and off when going on vacation and trips. Can’t comment on the weatherproof performance as I don’t recall a y bad rains while traveling with it. However, I am happy with how it held up. I did loose one strap at one time. (I think I run over it and that ripped it off). Using it to carry gear from car to beach this year. I do wish it had carrying handles. ... show more

  • GREAT FOR CARGO CARRIERS...KEEPS THINGS DRY AND SECURE !!!
I read all sorts of reviews on these bags and decided to get a couple for our cars. I'm writing while on Christmas vacation and we used two of them from Amazon for our trip using hitch-mounted cargo carriers. To answer the question if they're rainproof...yes definately. I think the folks who complained that thing got wet didn't velcro the flap down over the zipper. Will the straps hold it securely to the carrier...Yes, absolutely, very securely (I'm the sort of person who has to have something work well or I get something that will). OK, so it works, does what it should and it's a keeper... But some other things you might want to know. The folks who say this is like trampoline material probably have it half right. It's somewhere between an outdoor blow up swimming pool vinyl and that of an expedition duffel. I have those types of duffels and these bags aren't that thick or as rugged. They are thinner weight, but still keep out the rain and junk from the road. The zippers are OK, but could really be bigger gauge. These are about medium gauge and you have to fuss with them going around the corners of the bag, you have to deal with them hanging up with the material, etc. This wouldn't be the case if the bag had large expedition zippers. For a bag selling around $50 I would have given $100 to have a thicker, more robust bag with very heavy no compromise zippers... But, if you want something that works, you don't mind fiddling with it somewhat to get it opened and closed, this is a deal. If you aren't detail oriented, you're going to potentially get stuff wet as you have to ensure the velcro flap is sealed over the zipper assembly. If not, it probably will leak and the water will stay inside the bag (as it's waterproof and will stay rolling around with your luggage) The bag is not as big as some photos and descriptions would entail. We have two cargo carriers and there's probably a good 1-1.5 feet of area that this bag doesn't cover. (Not a big deal). It will carry all sorts of stuff from duffel bags to daypacks...to whatever you can stuff in it. Would I get them again...yes. Do I think they're going to be keepers for the long haul...possibly. If they were thicker like the NorthFace expedition duffels, etc I have I could count on them to provide service for years. These may get damaged, ripped or I may discard them eventually out of frustration with too small a guage zippers that hang up, etc. The neat thing is they are waterproof and if you use them in any capacity (open trailer, cargo carrier, etc.) they should keep your things dry. Rola makes good stuff. They make a larger bag than this one that I would have purchased, but it was out of stock. Hope this helps... ... show more

  • Versatile, Practical, and Sturdy Bag - Still going strong!
Edited to add: We still have this same set up 11 1/2 years later, use it often (at least a 1000 miles/year), and it is still going strong. The cars have changed twice (to a 2001 Suburban, and now a 2008 Sequoia) and the cargo has changed (no more babies 😢), but this bag has been fabulous. We like that it is not rigid, so we can adapt the height to the contents. The Suburban had barn doors, which was annoying with the bag on the back because it blocked the door. But we still used it just as much. We travel in all kinds of weather, including a lot of blizzard conditions for Christmas trips to see the family, and have never had trouble with the water proofing. So not sure if those with that trouble have faulty bags, if the bags are not made the same aanymor, or if it is user error. I suspect we'll still have this set-up for at least another 11 years! Original review: We needed more cargo space for a 3000 mile road trip with 2 adults and 4 small children. We didn't want to have to hassle with cargo on the roof of our large SUV (a 98 Ford Expedition) so we paired this bag up with a Valley 90590 Deluxe Hitch Mount Cargo Basket . The bag is 48" wide but still has greater capacity than the comparable 60" bag on Amazon ( Lund 601006 Cargo Carrier Heavy Duty Storage Bag ) due to a taller height and deeper depth. The adjustable height feature is also a nice bonus. Since the Valley 90590 is 60" wide we were able to add a plastic tote strapped in with bungees on the end - which worked fabulously to put items to be easily accessed. (see picture) It rained 12 out of the 14 days of our trip and the items inside stayed perfectly dry. The construction is very well made - the bag is very thick and sturdy and the straps more than adaquate. As another reviewer mentioned, the bag is a little stiff in colder weather, making it difficult to zip. I can also see the advantage of adding a homemade pvc pipe frame as other reviewers have done. The way the straps attach to the top of the bag are well reinforced, but it remains to be seen how well they will hold up under years of use. The bag did not show any signs of wear from this initial trip. We did not even use up the capacity of this bag and still fit in 2 suitcases, 1 duffel bag, a portable baby bed (similar to a pack-and-play), 2 large swim totes filled with swim gear, a folding booster seat with tray, our laundry in a large laundry bag, packs of diapers, and more! I see no reason why this bag could not also be used on a roof top carrier, but I have not yet tried it for this use. We will probably end up using it in our flatbed trailer and on camping trips as well. Fabulous product! ... show more
