  • No customer service contact
It looks cute but it came with no screws or tool. I have searched for a customer service number or email but cant find it anywhere. Update*** I finally was able to contact someone and they were helpful and said they were fixing the issue with the website.

  • Mason Bee habitat and wood planter
Use plants to help attract the Mason Bee to this Mason Bee House. All you need is some water and access to mud (to build their homes in the tubes.) They will pollinate the flowers, trees, and fields around your home. They return to their mud home for the rest of the summer and young ones will emerge next spring. Mason bees do not sting and they are very fun to watch. This project did take a bit of time to construct. The wonderful cedar wood smelled so good and the holes were all perfectly predrilled. The colored instructions were not quite clear enough to show the different pieces. Also the wooden parts were not labeled. My husband stated it was like working a crossword puzzle — try for a bit and then if that did not work, try again. When it was finally all done, it looked great and the bees will love it. ... show more

  • Well designed Bee House with Bee Reeds and planter boxes. Very Good...not perfect.
In the end, this is a very nice Mason Bee House that should work well in a garden environment and help increase the production of garden veggies by increasing the bee population for pollination duties. The wood Bee House is made of Fir Wood which is somewhat robust against weather and rot. The company claims the wood has been waxed, but if so, it is not noticeable. Assembly is a bit daunting as the assembly instructions only show pictures with parts labeled... However, you have to carefully match the pictures against the multiple fir parts to identify each one because there are no markings on the wood pieces themselves. Can be confusing and the instructions are not intuitive or very clear. In the end, they all fit together properly as designed. The connection is with hex-head screws and predrilled holes. a Hex tool is included. I had one board split out when attaching the screw. Fortunately when all the other pieces were assembled, the split did not affect security or the overall stiffness of the box. There are more reeds than necessary to fill the box which is good in case some replacements are necessary during the season. Rivajam sells additional Reeds for follow-on seasons. The planter boxes have two drainage holes at the bottom of the box, and it is recommended (and I agree) that 6" potted plants should be used, rather than planting in soil directly in the boxes. There would likely be more of a tendency towards rotting or weakening the wood if planted directly. To maximize the potential of bees using the system, it is highly recommended to use Pollinator Attractor plants in the two planting areas. A list of good plants in included. In our case, we planted Calendula (a kind of Marigold) in one, and Salvia in the other. We will watch the action as the season progresses, but I feel very confident because we have started to see the appropriate bumble bees going after the nectar in our existing garden. As for weathering, I think it would be appropriate to try and keep this Bee House out of direct hard rain conditions, and it MUST be placed on a flat platform, not attached to a wall or post as the wood is thin. The instructions say that the platform this is place on should be at least 3.5ft high and no more than 6.5ft. (1-2 Meters). The box should be placed in direct sunlight as bees are cold-blooded and need the warmth. The instructions say it should face South to SouthEast. All in all, once past the assembly annoyances, this is a good looking and functional Bee House that is aesthetic with the planters and should work quite well. Time will tell. I rate this Bee House at 4.4 stars...just shy of being able to round up to FIVE STARS. Better and clearer instructions, with matching letter markings on each piece...as well as more care with the prefilled holes to eliminate the possibility of splitting...would raise this to a full five stars. Nonetheless, I have no hesitation honestly recommending this value-priced, functional, and attractive Bee House. • High quality and easy to assemble!
My husband has been on a mason bee kick for a while now, so when I saw this I knew I had to pick it up. He loved that it was DIY and was able to assemble it in about 10 minutes just using the provided allen wrench. He laid it out as stated in the directions and it really helped him to get it built quickly, so definitely don't try to wing it! The reed tubes that were included are varying sizes, and it definitely comes with extras so you can play around with to ensure that you have a tight fit. They also have a light wax coating on them which makes them nice to work with. My husband is already brainstorming which flowers to plant on either side for the bees. We also plan to mount it to a tree out front. Note: Both sides of the planter have pre-drilled drain holes. ... show more

  • Cute Bee Planter
This bee planter is super cute! It is a little smaller than expected, but the dimensions are correct in the ad. It was pretty easy to put together even though each of the pieces were not labeled. Make sure you pay attention to which piece is what by the amount of screw holes and slats. I also used a small battery powered drill for the screws because they were a little tight to screw in by hand. Picked up some bee attracting flowers. Hoping the bees will love it. ... show more

  • Wonderful little planter if you don't mind some rougher bits
This Rivajam DIY Mason Bee House Wood Planter Box is so cute! I've been learning about native bees and the importance of helping them, so I was so excited to get the opportunity to set up a little home for them. Assembly felt more like a fun puzzle than a chore. This is a great project for ages 12+ to put together. The pieces are not individually labeled, so you have to study the pictures of the pieces to know which is which. But overall the design is pretty simple and it's not that difficult to get it right. You want to be careful when tightening the screws. I overtightened some of mine trying to get the surface as flat as possible for the next piece to rest on, and ended up cracking the wood. This happened several times. Go easy on it! There's also one part where the upper screws need to be loose enough for the next step of fitting a wood piece in. I had to go back and loosen some screws for it to work. I've deducted one star because I feel the craftmanship could have been a bit better for the $36 price tag (as of writing this review). Some pieces don't fit together as well as I'd expect them to, sticking out slightly when it's supposed to be a clean right angle corner. Some pieces aren't sanded down as I'd expect. Think more along the lines of a roughly constructed birdhouse than a beautifully sanded and finished planter box, though this is essentially an amalgam of both, beautifully sanded and finished in some areas and rough and mismatched in others. Overall I love that mason bees are getting their due and that products like these are becoming more common. This one's a great choice if you aren't a perfectionist. ... show more
