  • Priceless must-have for the home sewist.
I LOVE my Rex! Rex came with the sample stitch and mine is the black stitch in the middle. I watched YouTube videos on how to operate Rex as well as read the instruction manual. As you see with the final product you can’t tell the difference between my stitch and the pant’s original stitch! Sew I had actually first tried to use invisible thread and that did not work. Black blind hem thread worked perfectly. When I switched to maxi lock thread I had to adjust the tension. Hemming in under a minute- more like a matter of seconds?! AMAZING! My biggest challenge was, duh, figuring out that only a simple fold in half is required of fabric. ... show more

  • Ignore the naysayers and buy this machine!
My wife and I were hesitant to purchase this unit because of some of the negative reviews. However, we decided to take a chance anyway. She has over 30 years' sewing experience (both industrial and home sewing), and I have about the same time working in IT. We figured that we could get the thing going between the two of us. What follows are some of the issues we encountered getting the RX-518 to work, and how we overcame them: 1. The manual is terrible! This machine came with the worst manual that I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor and immediately throw the manual away before setting up the machine--it'll save you at least an hour's worth of frustration if you do. Watch a few YouTube videos on setting up the machine instead; they'll have you running in just a few minutes. I still rated the RX-515 a solid 5 stars, even though the supplied manual is horrendous, because the machine works so darned well once you get it running! 2. I can't get the machine to do straight stitches! Although this is a small machine, it is industrial-grade, designed to provide thousands of trouble-free hours of service. However, the machine will NOT work correctly if there is anything wrong with how it's threaded. The thread must run precisely along the intended path, with no tangles or twists. It has to go through the tension discs correctly, and be routed UNDER the needle. There are some excellent YouTube videos that can show you how to properly thread the machine. It is essential that you get this right! At first, my wife was having problems getting the machine to work right. She thought she had the machine threaded right. For a moment, I was afraid we were going to have to return it. Then she noticed that the thread had worked its way under the cone on the supply reel. She fixed that problem and the machine has run flawlessly ever since. You also have to use the right kind of thread on the machine. The RX-518 only uses "blind-stitch" thread. Most regular sewing thread is too thick, and will not properly feed through the machine. Most serger threads are thin enough to feed properly, but might not be strong enough for blind stitches. Just save yourself a lot of grief, and exclusively use blind stitch thread on your blind-hemmer. That's about all there is to getting the RX-518 up and running. Some people might complain that this is a lot of hassle, but trust me: you won't complain once you see this machine in operation. It can blast out two-feet of perfect blind-stitches in just a couple of seconds. You'll be doing hemming tasks that used to take hours of hand-sewing in just a couple of minutes, and the stitches be flawless. Trust me: you WON'T regret buying the RX-518 Blind Stitch Machine! ... show more

  • Great machine for the money. Professional daily use.
The media could not be loaded. I had this same machine for 15 years. I've used it almost daily, virtually trouble free... I literally WORE IT OUT, it was starting to require a few parts and service, but since it had been so long, I figured id just get a new one. It was SO NICE , right out of the box. Packaged well for shipping. I use it for clothing, drapery, all kinds of stuff. Blind hemmers are finicky by nature, it takes a little bit to get comfortable adjusting the tension and bite for various fabrics/thicknesses, etc, but when you get that down, and just know that's part of using it, is a constant test/adjust/test,then sew process, and realize that's just part of using these, you'll love it. I recall years ago thinking it was my least favorite machine because I felt like it needed adjusting every single time I used it... then I found out that is the norm for blind hemming, and fell in love with it. Best price in a great machine. ... show more

  • Good starter machine
I have never had a blind stitch machine, so not sure how to rate it. But I have sewn hundreds of drapes so far, some with blackout and interlining. It works best on medium weight home decor fabrics or thick linens with double hems, it struggles to “grab” lighter duck cottons and fabrics with single hems sometimes, but I learned if you hold the fabric higher (above the plate) as you allow it to be fed, for some reason the needle is more likely to pierce through. So now I hold all my drapes at my chest level as I sew. I took one star off because each time I tried to have the stitch skip over, it didn’t do anything or gave me problems. Huge learning curve, but worth it on my bigger, more expensive projects. Not worth it on cheaper projects. Would also be nice to have some built in light since threading it can be a pain in the something sometimes, but probably not realistic at this price point. ... show more

  • Beyond Pathetic
1.The first thing to go wrong was a screw stripped out when trying to tighten the bow foot screw. 2.The bow foot axle would not fit into the bow foot sleeve, couldn't even make it to the notch. 3.Very difficult to get a slower speed on the motor control. Practiced for hours with the motor control, first without thread...then with thread and fabric...even tried to control it with my bare foot. 4.At times when working with material, the thread would get caught on the right side of the metal that moves the fabric causing fabric to pucker that was already hemmed. No directions to say what might be causing it to do that. 5.Then noticed I broke when taking out material I had been practicing on for over an hour. There were 2 spare needles, but no spare looper (or needle fork) and I can't find anywhere to replace the part on the internet. Am totally out of luck as we moved during the time I bought it and today. Have owned lots of machines in the 55 years I've been sewing and this is the only one I would NEVER recommend buying. ... show more

  • I LOVE THIS MACHINE!! 😍😍😍
all I needed to do was add the lift and the thread attachments and I was ready to use the machine!!! This machine is so much more easier to use than the industrial one I have at work and gives the same results, if not, better!! No probkems. Amazing machine! I'm so glad I got this machine instead of a bulky industrial! I'm so excited! Ive had this in my cart for over two years and I finally decided to purchase it! I don't even know why I didn't purchase this as soon as I put it in my cart! 😁😁😍😍😍 ... show more
