  • Controller for a 200W Solar System. AWESOME!
Size: 20A MPPT Style: Controller
Installed this with a two 100W solar panels (200W total). This thing is amazing! I was off grid on a camping trip in the sierras for a week. This charge controller kept my batteries fully charged at all times. In the morning my batteries dipped to 78% charge but were at full capacity before noon every day. Additionally, I connected a wall charger to the 12V load output. With that I was able to keep all of my phones, Kindles, and other 12V devices fully charged. Now get this... Every night I plugged my phone into the wall charger that ran on solar only and my phone would be at 100% charge every morning by charging off of moonlight alone! Instead of fuses, I installed circuit breakers before and after the system. This allowed me to turn off electricity before or after the system and prevent that exciting zap that one gets when the play with live DC voltage. Spend the extra money and get the MPPT controller, you will be glad you did. I know I am! ... show more

  • Can't use with HF radios; bad RFI on 40 meters
Size: 20A MPPT Style: Controller
Very bad RFI on 7 MHz; not good for amateur ham radio. I have a 200W solar setup for my radio shack. When I unboxed the Rover 20 Amp MPPT I was impressed; it's big and heavy and build quality seems very good. It has easy to understand / navigate information display and shows me everything I want. Unfortunately, it generates a very loud spike on 7 Mhz, repeating every 40 KHz, making this charger unusable for ham radio. Unless I can find a way to choke / filter, I'll have to return it and try another brand. ... show more

  • Renogy's tech is not legit tech.
Size: 40Amp-BT Style: Controller
Read the 1star reviews, I bought this unit thinking I was getting top dollar quality, unfortunately the wire connection ports are some of the worst whether you are new to charge controllers or have previous experience these ports will strip with no warning making them unusable and impossible for repair. Secondly, this unit is on a preset by default to charge Flooded batteries. Customer service will not tell you any of this. Every unit is customizable with a password 135790123 to operate as admin, you will then go into settings and change to your preferred battery type and hit the set button followed shortly after pressing the read button to tell the controller to operate under those new settings. The manual does not provide these instructions. ... show more

  • Renogy Warranty Sucks!
Size: 30A MPPT Style: Controller
After installing my solar system on my storage building, the controller was not detecting the solar panels. I went through troubleshooting over the phone with Renogy support. I sent pictures with multimeter showing correct voltage from solar panels and the controller not registering anything. Long story short, I sent the controller to Renogy for warranty replacement...3 weeks later no controller, nor have I heard from Renogy. I called a week ago and was told that it was being tested to confirm it was defective. My issue isn't with the controller itself. You are going to have defects from time to time in any manufacturing process. My issue is with Renogy policy regarding warranty replacement. It is absolutely ridiculous for something so simple to take this much time. I'll most likely use another brand in the future. ... show more

  • Great charger paired with an absolute trash app/BT
Size: 30Amp-BT Style: Controller
For starters, I was unable to review the bluetooth module directly, so unfortunately here it will be tainting the overall review of the charger. The Renogy app that pairs with this device is probably one of, if not the, worst apps I've ever used. Not just solar charge controllers, mind you. Here are a few issues: -Frequent connectivity issues (drops often, goes blank) -Completely reloads app if you switch (if I go to answer a text, and reload the app it will restart the entire thing) -Only shows data if it is CURRENTLY connected to the charger. It does not store any information whatsoever. If I go home and want to look at historical charging data, I'm SOL -Requires an admin password (which you literally have to Google in order to find) before allowing you to change battery type and capacity. YOU MUST ENTER THIS IN EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU LOAD THE APP. If you don't it resets the battery type and capacity. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. My battery is 100AH and sealed (SEL). The app resets to 200AH and fluid lead acid each time I open the app. It's correct on the controller itself (I've checked multiple times) -The "record" portion of the app (which is intended to show you the history of charge/discharge etc) barely works. The result by day appears to be mostly accurate, but if you go into the graph/chart feature it just shows a single dot with zero data. -In order to change ANY settings, of ANY sort, you must enter the hidden admin password (again, need to Google each time). You cannot change the password. You cannot set it to remember the password. Here it is, to save time for those who don't have it: 135790123 -On the actual controller, the tabs that hold power/ground wires in will not release if the device is already installed. It must be on it's back with face up (gravity pulls the tabs down as you loosen the screws). Don't make the mistake of mounting the device on a wall first, you will have to demount in order to get wires in. ... show more

  • Total failure!
Size: 30Amp-BT Style: Controller
I was a huge Renogy fan. However, this controller was a disaster. First when it arrived, the Bluetooth module was missing. Did get a refund for that part. Also, this unit was supposed to be able to hookup to my laptop, the included software would never install, and appears to be written in the last millennia. The real problems started a week into my Winter trip to the SouthWest when the controller began to fail. Beginning as randomly just shutting off. Called Renogy and they said to check the incoming voltage, which proved to be OK. Their response was to return the unit for repair. Tough to do as I am traveling for the next months. I did find, you will not believe this, but by putting a test meter on the PV input, it would trip the controller into working again. PITA, put kept the batteries up. However over time, the failures grew more frequent with it's final demise two weeks after the problem began. Fortunately, this was in Quartzsite, AZ and Discount Solar had just opened for the Winter season. Purchased and installed a Blue Sky MPPT controller. Working well, so on with the trip. See you down the road. --Mark ... show more
