  • Great value
Great emergency bag with all the basic things you might need. Great size and not too heavy to run with. I would recommend.

  • Peace of mind
This is the perfect kit to keep in the car. It covers the basic needs just in case we get stranded anywhere. With younger kids, this is exactly what I was looking for. And they loved going through it with me and talking about safety and what to do in an emergency. Well worth every penny!

  • Peace of Mind, Plain Jane Survival Minimal Kit.
We have several kids who are driving back and forth to various places. I worry that they will get stuck in the snow and have to wait it out for a day or two. I worry that something will happen and they will have to hike back home over several days. I worry that they will be out camping (which they do) and get stuck in mud etc. I worry my husband will get stuck at work for some reason and he'll need something. This is a nice piece of mind kit that provides a little bit of back up for those types of situations. It provides a little bit of peace of mind and for the price it is exactly what I anticipated. I have several of these, one in each car vehicle. I also tossed into each car a basic tool set, a blanket or two, some heavier duty gloves and good flashlight. This kit plus those items give me peace of mind that in a basic emergency, where my family can stay in the car for a few days they will have everything they need for plain jane survival. If they have to leave the vehicle, there is a little bit of room in this kit to add some 'stuff' they can scrounge from the car (light sticks, snacks they have on hand etc) and they can take this and go hiking to civilization/home! What it is NOT- it's not really a 72 hour kit that you can grab and go. This is why I gave it 4 stars. It is sold as a 2 person, 3 day emergency survival kit. I believe if you were very very conservative with the water you drank and the food bars you ate - you MIGHT be able to use this for very basic survival. But a typical 72 hour kit should be much more complete. If you want a comprehensive 72 hour, grab and go kit- make your own. You can use this as start to that- But I would suggest you get a bigger backpack and dump all of the stuff from this backpack into it and then add more. Add some waterproof matches, some fishing line, heavier gloves. Add some more light sticks, more first aid equipment, water purifying tablets, money, etc etc. You can easily do the research online about what else you might need/want in a 72 hour kit. In fact, I added a few more of the smaller items listed above to these kits just to sit in our car. I espeically ramped up the first aid portion of this kit. The one thing I would point out, it hasn't happened yet, but I anticipate that the backpacks will dry rot or that the handles will fall off within some amount of time. This is not a high quality back pack, but for the price I didn't anticipate it would be a high quality back pack. When it starts to look like it's time to replace it, I'll just buy a new backpack and dump this stuff into it. Overall- a great kit for a car, especially if you can add a few more items to the kit and carry some things in your car normally. A great kit for work. It will provide the very bare minimum plain jane basics. The cons are that the backpack is not sturdy and will probably fall apart after some time. And mostly, be aware that this is the very bare, most basic kit. ... show more

  • Great start for a GOOD (Get out of Dodge) Bag
This is a cheap, easy way to get a bag that meets the "Get out of Dodge" Need. With preparedness you can spend literally years planning, purchasing, storing the right stuff. For every item you choose you can find some crank on the internet that will accuse you of capital crimes for buying the wrong item. That could lead to analysis paralysis. This item solves for that. For not a lot of money, you can buy this item and know that in a worst-case scenario, you'll have the basics covered with a nicely-packed, ready-to-do item you can have at the ready. Get these now and customize/optimize later. You can probably pack a bit more into these bags too if you want. I inspected the items and found most on the packing list. (I didn't want to completely unpack and repack because you never get it repacked the way it was.) The food is an austere brick of something. The water is probably minimally adequate in quantity. But this is a small, easy to leave in your car, kind of backpack. Again, not looking for perfect, but looking for something that will get you through a worst-case situation. If that situation comes, I doubt you'll be complaining about this stuff, but will be rather glad you have something. The nice thing about this kit is it comes with a postage-paid postcard that reminds you when the expiration dates for the kit are close so you can resupply. I would expect you can find other things to replace the kit items so no need to reorder everything. I bought one with the intention of buying another if this one meets the needs above. I think I will. Everyone in a disaster-prone region MUST have this item or one like it for every two people. Don't bet your life on Uncle Sam. ... show more
