I just needed to grab some shelves to quickly re-organize a room, but this has really surpassed expectations. Other shelving units I've gotten through Ikea or Amazon in the past have had disappointingly flimsy supports - this one feels a lot more sturdy in comparison. The actual shelves are also metal, and look a lot nicer than the MDF you usually get with shelves like this. Super easy to build (directions are included, but you'd probably figure it out just fine on your own), and it was awesome that a mallet was included. The little rubber mallet heads won't last forever, but I'll definitely get some more use out of it beyond just the shelf assembly. There were no warped or missing components in my box. I built mine as two separate, shorter units. For anyone curious, when built this way, the topmost shelf surface sits about 28 inches above the floor (the supports stick up another inch beyond that). ... show more

The rack was easy to assemble and is sturdy when the shelves are seated properly. However, I agree that the provided metal shelves are irritatingly flimsy. Probably too flimsy to safely hold the weight claimed by the manufacturer. They should go back to using Masonite or plywood for shelves. I've seen some reviews that claim they aren't sturdy and one person said they picked it up and it fell apart. They are pretty sturdy once put together and initially I read the "fall apart" review and said well duh that's how it's assembled it could come apart when lifted. After assembling this myself using a bigger rubber mallet that didn't come with the thing I can't see how it would fall apart unless they didn't follow the instructions. They clearly state you need to make sure no slot is visible or it isn't seated well. I noticed it was very easy to hit too lightly and not seat it properly. Don't be afraid to smack it. Do make sure to put the little feet on it first, it's made of steel and is a sharp edge underneath. ... show more

I bought this 39" shelving system mainly because of the size and I preferred not to have a wired type of design since I'll be using it for seed starting and growing plants. For my intended use, it is very near perfect. The shelving system took me about 45 minutes to unpack, organize and assemble. While it is advertised as a "10 minute" assembly, that's not going to happen unless you have put shelving units together before. The provided instructions are decent enough and subsequent assemblies could probably be put together in about 15 minutes. In any event, you won't need any help putting this together as one person can easily accomplish it with only the supplied hammer. The shelves themselves are very light and get their strength from the 4 ribs underneath. While I wouldn't call this system "heavy duty," I have no doubt it will hold the advertised weight because of the design. It's light and strong as opposed to heavy and strong. One person could carry the assembled unit. The finish appears to be some sort of powder coating with a matte and somewhat lightly textured feel that while moisture resistant, it may not be as easy to wipe clean as say an enamel type finish. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with the unit and it arrived without damage. That's always a plus when buying large items that must be shipped. ... show more
