I took a chance on this because it is not the exact OEM replacement from MTD — which would have been three times the price. At first I thought I’d made a mistake because I could not get it to seat properly. All it took though was honing out the starter’s holes very slightly with a drill and it dropped into place. My mower fired right up (after changing out the solenoid which was also shot). You could waste a whole day trying to find the correct replacement starter, only to conclude that the overpriced OEM part is the only one that will fit.
