  • Best Hybrid Model (phone app and control panel)
When looking for a timer/controller I wanted one that that had both a phone app and a fully functional control panel - not a lot of choices out there - but this gives both. Note though to get all the functionality out of this unit you need the wifi module and highly recommend the Rainbird Rain (and Temp) sensor. Wifi module lets you control from your phone and allows you to enable the automatic season adjust feature that will update watering time each day (i.e.duration not start/stop times) based on weather forecast (in your zip code). Season adjust works on the forecast and will adjust run times to a minimum of 5% of normal (will never bypass watering altogether - this is common with timers having this feature), so if it monsooned yesterday it will still water - this is why I recommend the Rain Sensor which will completely bypass watering until drier conditions exist. The built in panel is easy to use and read under most lighting conditions and is fairly intuitive. A reference card is included for the most commonly used functions. The phone app has saved me miles of walking to the timer mounted in the garage when adjusting/replacing sprinkler heads. It also provides status of your system and allows you to fine tune on the fly. Installed in 2019 and still happy with my choice with no regrets. ... show more

  • Great deal - easy install
Excellent unit, easy install, great price. I bought this to replace my 20 year old unit which worked fine except the controller knob’s gear wore out and would no longer turn, and could not be fixed or replaced. The places I called wanted $150 for the unit (this one was $100) and $300 to install it, crazy! So I saved $350 by buying this and installing it myself, which I was a little nervous about, but it wasn’t hard at all. I’m very pleased with it and everything runs fine. Just a tip regarding the wiring for those non-professionals like me. I was so afraid I’d screw up the colors and I couldn’t seem to take a clear picture of the area so I made thin labels to identify each zone which worked great. ... show more

  • Great Price, Great controller. Delivered early.
My old Rain Bird stopped working after 23 years of service. I installed this one in 10 minutes. Easy to install and program. As I was testing the zones, the display suddenly said "Testing #*" Turns out the valve for zone 4 had shorted ( in ground for over 50 years). Instead of shorting out my new unit, it told me of the fault. I was able to trace the wires and dig up the faulted valve. Way to go Rain Bird! I am thinking of the wireless, but maybe later. ... show more

  • Pairing the TM2 is not easy
My Pixel 3 phone has a great amount of difficulties to connect to TM2! Apps download is easy. Cell has to link up the TM2 and then hand over to WiFi network. Rain Bird tech support extensively helped but not everyone of them can do it. My cell wireless connect-IDs cache got almost refreshed but that person avoided. After over an hour phone support, I finally put TM2 in business yay!! User menu talks the lucky path, not always happens. It needs to update urgently. The wireless controller itself needs to update to be easier to pair with. ... show more

  • Short Cord
Cord is 42 inches long. Ad says 6ft. I have an outlet that is 5 ft away so I thought I was set. Surprise, surprise! Now I get to make a proper length cord at my own expense. Luckly this unit can be hard wired, I'll run it on extension cord until virus scare is over and I can safely go out to purchase new cord. Wish people payed more attention to their ads. ... show more

  • Very easy to install and very easy to wire up
Very big improvement over my 17 year old Rain Bird 408 controller. Very easy to install and very easy to wire up. Just mark your zone numbers on the wire from the old unit to the new unit. Very easy to program. My ESP-TM2 is the 8 station model for my 7 stations. The big box stores stock only the 4 station or 12 station models. This model also has the capability of using the wireless module. Display is very visible. No battery for backup power. ... show more

  • Power transformer failed on new installation
The first unit was installed and plugged into 120V AC. However, the screen did not turn on. The cause was that the 120V AC - 24V DC transformer was not registering 0 V DC output. The seller replaced the unit. The second unit was installed and it did power up correctly. This was done in December and I live in Michigan so I was preparing for the Spring season. The unit was left unplugged during the Winter. In the Spring (May 2022), the unit was plugged into 120 V AC but the screen did not turn on. The output from the transformer was 0 V DC. It appears these transformers are faulty. ... show more

  • Easy install and configuration...only one complaint.
Installed this to replace my ESP-8TM which had stopped working. Everything was great installed configured the stations. Then I tried to run a manual cycle for all stations... The right arrow button is the start function. Unfortunately the button just moves to the next station instead of starting the cycle for all stations. The process works fine for single stations just not the manual cycle for all stations. Minor complaint as everything else functions great. Will be buying the Wifi and rain sensor in the future. ... show more
