    • Easy to assemble, wood is soft, absolutely recommend varathane sealing before assembly

This was surprisingly easy and fast to put together, the diagrams were simple to follow, and the modular type construction is quite nice. That said, this is pretty small once assembled, and I would say really would only hold 3 bantam birds comfortably, maybe a max 2 of any chicken that might get over 5lbs as adults. But, as a starter coop, this is a good buy. I will have to say that I would absolutely pay extra for the wood, which is almost alarmingly soft, to be pressure treated and sealed up with varnish. Because I the wood feels like it's porous, it's been painted with 2 coats of sealer and is going to be sitting on a base of pressure-treated 2x4s to keep it off the ground itself. I don't actually give this a lot of longevity potential even with what I've done with it. I would give this item maybe a 2 year lifespan, which is not enough really. But as a starter coop, knowing I will have to upgrade in 2 years, the price is right for that. But I wish it were made of much firmer wood. (when it does give out, the modular pieces are a perfect template to build a replacement coop with better materials though) ... show more
