I purchased one of these about a year ago and it works PERFECT. I purchased 3 more (cheaper than having spot lights) so I can keep an eye on my dog in the back yard. She’s a digger and I a very big yard 😫. One of the three work fine, but the other two, not so much… that little micro usb it has so you can connect to the solar panel came off on 2 of them and now it won’t charge UNLESS you take it all the way off and manually charge it. Very disappointed… they need to find a better way to secure that micro usb. Not sure if I can return them since they were outside for two days trying to let them charge up. Not a complete waste of money though because they do work if you can get the micro usb to not break off while putting it together. I would still recommend, just be VERY VERY careful, that micro usb is very easy to snap off. *Update: customer service was excellent! They helped me with the issue I had. Changed from 3 stars to 5 stars because they were VERY helpful!! And now all 3 work great!! ... show more

We used to get about three weeks of use out of a battery charge - but charging and changing the battery was a little tedious so we bought one of these units. Installation was easy (10 minutes including drilling the holes) and it looks good. We get plenty of sun so now the battery rarely dips below about 98% charge - and no more battery changes needed ... show more

I ordered this to avoid having to continually remove the ring camera from its mount to charge it; however, it does not work and has never worked. I thought I purchased a warranty for it, but I guess I didn't because I can't find one in my order archive. I have to admit that my sister purchased the same charger and hers works. I had gotten tired of swapping the battery on my doorbell every couple of months so decided to try this out. I saw the other version of this with just the solar panels on the sides and not the top, which does look much better but I had doubts that those small panels could add any significant charge to a battery that takes several hours to charge when connected to wall charger. This one does seem to do the trick. It charged about 2% from my starting level of 72% right away and indirect sunlight. I thought it stopped working when I checked it later while in full sun and it stopped charging at about 76% or so. I then read the details in the ring app that as a battery life protection feature the doorbell will actually slow or stop the charging around 80% so that the battery will have a longer lifespan. The solar panel was working fine, the doorbell was shutting off it's charging capability once it topped out near 80%. So far so good! It seems to work just fine. Now I can enable some of the features I previously turned off because they used too much battery. See the attached photos highlighting the solar panel status. No sun = not connected. Sun and battery = connected but not charging. Sun and lightning bolt battery = connected and solar charging. I will say I wish the large solar panel was able to be oriented at the bottom of the doorbell instead of the top. If you're mounting this on lap siding the arm that holds the upper panel bumps against the ridge of the siding and causes a bit of a gap behind the rest of the unit instead of being flush against the wall. ... show more

This solar charger has kept the doorbell charged pretty well even though it is only partially exposed to the late afternoon Western sun. Over three months, the Ring doorbell has only gone from 92% down to 65%. Very pleased with that.
