  • Great Power Supply
These are great for powering a cb radio. Use this if you have a mobile cb that you want to hook up in your house. These are top notch power supplies for the money. I recommend this product. I'm use one right now to power a 200 watt Connex radio. Does just fine.

  • Works Great for Automotive Electronics
DISCLAIMER: this power supply (and all the others like it at various amp ratings) are made to simulate an automotive electrical system, therefore it actually puts out 13.8 volts (the amount of volts an alternator puts out). So keep that in mind if you're planning on buying this for sensitive equipment that requires exactly 12 volts. If that's the case, look elsewhere. It will work fine for any electronics designed to work in an automobile. As for what I purchased it for, I have a Kenwood TM-281A and so far so good. I mainly scan and listen and sometimes transmit, usually at low power (25 watts) and so far no problems. I have transmitted at high power (65 watts) a few times and it will get hot, so you might want to buy a little fan for it if you're going to put a full load on it. My radio manual says it can draw as much as 14 amps, but I don't see how considering it's 65 watts max (65 watts/12 volts = 5.4 amps, less if I divide by 13.8). Anyway, it's done it's job just fine so far. ... show more

  • Almost perfect unit, just missing one thing!
Great product. I bought a Planar 8D-12 (same as Webasto) heater that's usually installed in vehicles, but I bought my heater to heat up my 2 car garage. It does a great job, but I had no way to hook up to power source because typically these heaters use the vehicle batteries to power up. So I needed a unit that could mimic the power supply from car batteries, and this Pyramid power supply does the job great, it gives off 13.8 volt, which I need, and I also needed something that can handle about 8 amps, which this unit can handle 12 amps. Overall this unit does a very good job. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars, is this unit tends to get very hot (not sure if that's normal), and I wish they there was an option for a built in cooling fan. Because my unit lasted 2 years and then it fried, so I bought another one... I have a feeling its because it gets too hot and doesn't have a cooling fan. I am installing my own cooling fan on this unit, I'm just using a fan from a computer that I have laying around for spare sparts, that should fix the overheating issue. ... show more

  • GO BIG OR GO HOME
I have the 70 watt version it’s ok I mean will run a cb radio… but the one your thinking about ordering is the big brother runs my cb and my “kicker” both no hesitation! Light don’t flash its perfect full power. Pushing 80watts! By the way I live in Mexico lol… but yes the converter only has one way for connecting but that’s all I need. And it’s not first time before you think anything that’s not my swr lol my swr meter doesn’t move when I check it lol my antenna is 65 feet in the air that’s me checking the power. • Must have for your garage.
This power supply works fantastic. I use it to work on off-road lots to install on vehicles. I use it to make sure I can wire the control buttons up correctly before I have to put them in the vehicle. I already own two of these and maybe getting a few more

  • Worked well for a few months, manufacturer repaired, unit eventually died after less than a year.
Very happy with this power supply. I'm using it to run a digipeater with a fairly light duty cycle. It has performed well the short time I've had it. UPDATE: Power supply can no longer deliver more than about 4 amps. It's only been in [light] service for about 4 months. I contacted the warranty department to see about a repair. I would have to cover shipping both ways (this unit is about 15-20 pounds). That would end up being more than half the cost to replace it with a new (presumably NOT Pyle) power supply. It's just not worth it. UPDATE: I contacted the manufacturer for repair, which they agreed to and they even covered shipping both ways after I complained. When they returned it to me, the unit worked fine for a while. Then it stopped giving out more than 1A. I've decided to cut my losses and will just throw away this $70 piece of equipment. It's not worth the trouble. ... show more

  • Pyramid PS14KX 12 Amp Power Supply
I had an older one of this same model that worked well for me for ~15 years until I was dumb and hooked it to a battery backwards. When I toasted that one, I bought another, since the old one had served me well. This newer version seems to have a 3 prong plug and better thermal goop around the heatsink mounting. It's a good thing to have around the house for a tinkerer like me. I bought it in my R/C car days to power a 12v NiCd charger... since then I've used it for any number of things like testing car audio equipment, even as a car battery charger (not really intended usage, but it does work as one as long as you're SURE not to get the battery to 100%.) Most recently I've used it to test out a LED lighting project. The heatsink can get hot at full load, and as other reviews have noted, the manual notes that the 12A rate is only for ~15 minutes before it shuts down due to thermals. I hooked a computer fan to the outputs and mounted that on the heatsink so it pushes some air through the heatsink... Now it doesn't get thermal shutdown even at 12A for 2 hours. ... show more
