Description

Sonzera [Portuguese]: from some (sound), meaning a cool and/ or stunning sound (in the sense of music) - a kind of slang. The Sonzera 20 is a 20-watt combo amplifier with two independently controlled, foot switchable channels designed for maximum versatility and in the spirit of vintage amps that allowed you to control your tone instead of the amp being in control. The clean channel delivers full, 3D tones reminiscent of American 1960’s and 70’s amplifiers. The lead channel is related to the clean channel circuit-wise, so that it can be set up to act as a boosted clean channel or manipulated to make the channels sound like two completely different amps (the lead channel can be set from slight to very heavy distortion by simply using the volume and master controls). The bright switch on the lead channel has been carefully tailored to deliver familiar high-end snap and is particularly effective on the low strings, neck pickup settings, and with single coils, while the low-end response of the lead channel is full, tight, and clear. Both channels on the Sonzera are designed to maximize note clarity and definition. The global presence control and the tone stack allow players to dial in a variety of tones from bell-like chime to warmer, thicker tones. The Sonzera 20 Combo also features global reverb control that is designed to enhance notes without clouding them. The reverb can be turned on and off via the footswitch. The addition of a built-in effects loop allows players to use all their time-based effects with ease without negatively impacting the overall tone of the amp. In addition to its versatile tone, the Sonzera 20 Combo is also designed for reliability and serviceability. The power tube sockets are mounted directly to the steel chassis, and no push-on connections are used - all wires are soldered. With robust construction, a wide range of tones, and steadfast controllability, the Sonzera 20 Combo is a solid gig- and studio- worthy amplifier.

  • Extremely Home Practice Friendly, Small Footprint but Great Sound
Style: 20W Combo
This is a really beautiful classic tuber guitar amp with spring reverb. The Clean channel sound works really well with very good acoustic guitars with either piezo or mag pickups. I'm not a shredder, at least not yet, so no comment on the Main channel other than it has that soft clipping loudness of a tube amp whereas a transistor amp has harsh overload. I do notice that static electricity will get those springs ajingling, but I don't think this happens if the humidity is above 28%. Put it caddycorner and it will seamlessly merge with your stereo speaker placement. I love the portability and clean looks! No trading this one for sure! ... show more

  • Amp for Life
Style: 50W Combo
I can't begin to say how great this amp is. Super versatile, great tones and louder than you'll ever need. I get compliments on this thing everywhere it goes, and I've had it less than a month. It takes pedals well, comes with a footswitch and can generate just about any sound you're looking for(with a little EQ knowledge). I used it with my Fender Strat to record with the band a couple weeks ago, and I was beyond impressed. It's even built well enough to the point you can practice at home without disturbing the neighbors. I suggest doing research before buying anything like this but I'm sure you'll find the PRS Sonzera line to be one of the best purchases you'll ever make just as I did. The only set-back is the weight, but you'll get that with any tube amp. ... show more

  • The replacement needed to be replaced also...
Style: 20W Combo
The one I received had an annoying transformer hum - more pronounced in the clean channel. Totally annoying. I received a replacement - same issue - I got a refund. I'll find something else that actually works.

  • Junk
Style: 20W Combo
First ordered the Sonzera 50 and had to send it back due to horrible hum. Got the 20 instead. Same thing. Got another one. Same thing. Stick to guitars.

  • Great sounding amp
Style: 20W Combo
Best sounding amp I have ever owned and I've owned plenty. I only use the clean channel and run a pedal board through it. I am pretty sure I can tweak in the second channel as well I just need more gig time. After 4 gigs the only issue I have (hence the 4 stars) is that the effects loop made my wah pedal shrill and harsh otherwise the amp is fantastic. The wah is fine when the pedal board runs directly into channel one. My band consists of guitar, bass, drums & sax and those 20 watts are plenty. I thought about getting the 50 but it would have been too much most of the time. ... show more

  • Love this amp!
Style: 20W Combo
Love this amp. Especially for the price from this buyer. Arrived ahead of schedule also. Every positive review I’ve read about this amp is proving to be correct. PRS is a great company.

  • An amazing amp, especially for the price
Style: 50W Combo
An amazing amp, especially for the price. The clean channel is great, sounds better than my Mesa Lone Star at less than 1/2 the price. I use the overdrive channel as a second clean channel with more less treble and presence. Great amp!!!

  • Sonzera 50w Combo
Style: 50W Combo
Here’s my 2 cents. This amp is unfortunately marketed almost exclusively in conjunction with PRS guitars. It’s going to fail in the marketplace because of not hearing it with other popular guitars or finding it in stores. What a crying shame for anyone with a Gibson Les Paul for instance, to not experience the build quality, power, head room, tone for days this amp delivers. It takes pedals perfectly, and effects loop works really great for delay effects. I prefer this particular control selection for ease of use. A lot more time is spent playing then messing around with those. It’s very loud, but If you can’t crank it, it’s like buying a champion racehorse with no place for it to run. You won’t get much of what it can really do at low volumes on its own though I still like it for practice. I like the abundant distortion in the gain channel, though I prefer pedals for that as I would rather it be a bit smoother depending an the style of music. Indicator lights on the channel/reverb switch would have been really nice. It’s great not having to buy an optional switch for more features. Don’t even compare it with the (6L6 based) 20w version. The 50W combo is just a different animal and is a bit heavy at 56.6 Lbs, a little larger than normal for a 1X12, so no boxy practice amp sound whatsoever. It already comes with an awesome speaker that is perfectly matched to it. I would say it pretty much has its own classic amp style sound. It’s uniquely stylish looking—downright beautiful in person, if you are into that sort of thing. The clean sound is beautiful as well with headroom for days, thus, great for pedals too. If you want a classic style amp with jamming and gigging in mind, I think you’d be doing yourself a huge favor by ordering it as I did, sight unseen and letting it, most likely, blow your mind. I’ve only played a Les Paul through it and only had one opportunity to really crank it. That was enough for me to be unusually satisfied with it as my main amp. All those PRS’s sound great with it. Some day I’ll get one, but I prefer it blasting out LP (I have ‘57 Classic & ‘57 Classic + pups.) tones, with or without pedals. Metal heads should pass on it, though otherwise, it is quit versatile. Mine was ordered at a local store because I got a 15% discount and it was easy to return it there if I didn’t like it. Most of my stuff is ordered here on Amazon, so I just thought it was important to give a heads up on this particular amp. ... show more
