  • Perfect. Still working after 6 Years
Size: 1.1 Quarts Color: White
Love this kettle. I use it to heat water for tea, cooking, preparing food for hummingbirds, anything I would have used a stove top kettle for. The least efficient ways to boil water are on a stove (gas or electric). Most efficient are electric kettles and induction heaters. The last are limited to pots that a magnet grabs. When cooking soups, stews, chili, etc. I often need to add more water. I bring the water to a boil in this kettle to prevent cooling the pot. Cold water stops the cooking for a while. The quality is good, easy to pour, comfortable handle. It has an auto turn-off when the water is boiling fast. Twice I forgot water, and when I turned it on it immediately shut off before the elements got very hot. Minimum amount of water is about 12 ounces - required to prevent the elements from heating above the water. The maximum fillis 32 oz (1 liter), more the boiling water might splash out of the spout. I highly recommend this electric kettle to anyone who wants a simple, easy to use, reliable kettle to boil water in. And who wants to boil water much more energy efficiently stove tip kettles. Just don't cook food in it as it would be very hard to clean out, and food would get caked up on the heating elements. For the rare times I want a specific temperature I use an instant read thermometer that reaches into the water and lets me attain a desired water temperature. ... show more

  • Great Value for the Money
Size: 1.1 Quarts Color: White
I moved from an apartment that had a gas range to one with an electric range. When I wanted to boil water, the element had to heat up before the water could heat up. Wastes a lot of time and probably electricity. Same for the microwave. I wasn't sure if an electric kettle was the answer, so I chose this small, inexpensive one. It's really terrific! Since I only use single servings of boiled water, I was concerned about having to have a minimum amount and wasting water. It turns out the minimum water level is about 1-3/4 cups. A perfect amount for tea, soups, etc., with maybe a little left over. It boils the minimum water within 2 minutes, a full pot in about 5 minutes, depending on the temperature of the water you start with. Mine from the fridge. If I had one complaint it would be the length of the cord. It's very short, and I'm guessing this is to discourage you from filling and pouring with the kettle plugged in (you're not supposed to do that). I agree with what some other people have said about a magnetic connection in the power cord, but what do you really want for eleven bucks? There are kettles with them, you just have to pay for it. You would never expect one at this price point. As for other complaints listed in these reviews, I'll address them: it does smell the first few times you use it. But those first few times are supposed to! That's why the instructions tell you to boil two or three kettles full of water and rinse it out several times after. After that, while you can still smell plastic if you stick you nose in it, it doesn't leach into the smell or taste of the water. Another poor review said the water was yellow. That was either a defective kettle, or the person couldn't tell that it was the light reflecting off the beige plastic inside making the water inside look yellow. The water actually is not colored. And for the people who say they need to boil their water to kill all myriad of bacteria, then an electric kettle with shut-off safety features was just not a good choice. It's not a bad product. ONE CAVEAT! Do not rely on the pre-printed markings for measurement. They are way off. Otherwise, I'm pleased with my kettle and I'm hoping it lasts a long time. For the price, it's more than worth it. UPDATE 12/22/09 -- Just thought I'd add that now, almost three years later, my kettle is still working and I still think it was a great purchase. UPDATE 8/8/11 -- Still working, still loving it! ... show more

  • Good electric kettle for the price
Size: 1.1 Quarts Color: White
It's smaller than the other electric kettle that I currently own. It heats up fairly fast, just wish it held more water.

  • It has lasted 17 YEARS!!
Size: 1.1 Quarts Color: White
We bought this in 2008!! It just stopped working today. It was used nearly every day for 17 YEARS!! That is better quality than anything else I can think of. Its simple design worked fabulously. It has just one choice: on or off. The heating coil at the bottom of the pitcher worked It headed the water quickly every single time. It is lightweight and easy to store. It looks sleek and modern. The side allows enough light to monitor the water letter. I just went online to order another one and was pleasantly surprised to see that it has only increased in price by a couple of dollars. ... show more

  • It works ... when the cord does.
Size: 1.1 Quarts Color: White
I bought this kettle because I wanted to be able to make hot beverages at my desk in my office, instead of having to go up and down two flights of stairs to reach the kitchen. This tends to be a good brand. They really pushed the detachable cord as a great trait of this particular kettle. Well, it heats up the water quickly and isn't overly loud when it's boiling. I love that it switches itself off once the water reaches that rolling boil, to keep it safe. What's driving me absolutely bonkers, though, especially after only using it a couple of times, is the detachable cord has a tendency to fall off the plug. You have to jam it on and then wiggle it around to get the power light to turn on so that it will finally start to boil. It shouldn't be that hard. Sometimes it will work right away, and sometimes I feel like I am trying to insert a USB cord where you have to keep flipping it around, trying it again, even though you've done it right at least once or twice, before it finally goes where it needs to go and stays there so that it will properly work. ... show more
