  • Very Happy with This Purchase!
Style: Chainsaw
For the money, I think you will have a hard time beating this chainsaw. The construction is solid and it runs perfectly. I've seen people complain that it's hard to start, but I haven't found that to be at all true. Follow the directions and it starts right up. People also complain that the chain throws too much oil, which tells me that they don't understand how chainsaws work. It does use a lot of oil to lube the chain, and that is a good thing. I've only used the saw maybe 6 hours so I can't speak to how it holds up over time, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. If a problem arises, I'll update the review. I rate this saw a strong buy. ... show more

  • This Poulan Pro PR5020 20-inch chainsaw died after exactly 1 year!!!
Style: Chainsaw
I bought this Poulan Pro PR5020 20-inch chainsaw on June 1, 2019, and it worked fine for 4 months after it was delivered. So, this week (on June 2, 2020) it died after I tried to cut few 1-2 inch dead tree branches for my neighbor. I have followed the User Manual and kept this saw in good maintenance. I have everything the Instruction Manual suggests and the saw would not start. I watched few video clips on Youtube about this chainsaw for tips, but nothing worked! I clean the saw, filled up newly mixed 50:1 ratio fuel and bar and chain oil, replaced spark plug (HQT-1), replaced air filter and fuel filter, but nothing worked!!! The chainsaw just will NOT start. Any ideas? I wrote the above review and gave it one star when I was upset that I could not start the chainsaw. Actually it was my fault not doing regular maintenance of the saw. After I ordered the tune up kit and did tune up and cleaning, my chainsaw worked like new. I changed the rating to 5 star*! ... show more

  • Broke after 45 minutes, not covered by Amazon, Square Trade Warranty, or Poulan
Style: Chainsaw
I bought this chainsaw so I could clear land and cut firewood for my family. It started easily but seemed to lack power. After about 45 minutes of pretty mild use the chain came off. When I put the chain back on I noticed that the bottom metal bracket that guards the chain from hitting the user had bent (pictured). After I returned the chain to its place and tensioned it I started the saw. The chain will barely move. I contacted Amazon but my return window had closed a week prior. I contacted Square Trade, the warranty company Amazon uses and they told me it was covered by Poulan. I contacted Poulan and they referred me to their dealer in my area. I called them and they said it wouldn't be covered and told me that it was my fault. I've been clearing land for 15 years and I've never had this happen to a new saw. Now I have to buy a new chain $25 and possibly a new bar $30. I also have to take my 4 year old twins with me to a small engine repair shop and it's going to be a night mare because they are going to want to touch everything while I'm trying to figure out what my chainsaw situation is. I'm tired of companies that are not accountable for the products they sell as soon as they get your money. ... show more

  • Excellent saw
Style: Chainsaw
I have owned a lot of chainsaws over the years, gas and electric, small and large. For a full sized saw this is my favorite. I previously had a Poulon Pro 18" that served me well for years and they have made significant improvements in this newer model. Here are the highlights: 1. Price for quality 2. Made in USA 3. Quick starting 4. Powerful for the engine size 5. Efficient 6. Comes in a hard case pre assembled 7. Integrated tool in handle 8. Comes with Oregon blade Truly an excellent saw, at a price point much lower than most brand names of its size and caliber. I have already cleared about a quarter acre of dense scrub forest and it goes through trees like a hot knife through butter. Plenty of power for 20", solid quality control, and of course made in USA. Given that the competition is about twice the price, don't cheap out on some junk, get this saw and you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Cost effective stopgap or quality homeowner saw.
Style: Chainsaw
This is a quality saw and even its flaws are well thought out. Short of going to ebay for a chinese saw I don't think you could beat it for the money. I primarily purchased this saw to use for cleanup/firewood and gather logs to mill for beams(with my heavier saw) without destroying my inherited saws while I save for a proper saw like a stihl and in the first weekend of use I have been pleasantly surprised by this saw. As for the shipping it arrived on time , packaged inside of the carry case with the second bar channel on the case open so moisture could escape and the usual amazon packaging on the outside layer. Presentation: Everything was as you'd expect fit and finish wise and the manual/bar channel cap were in the case along side the saw. Use/final thoughts: Only adjustment needed was idle speed but be warned if you're going to run any less than 91 octane your might need a slight adjustment on the high speed jet(after break-in) as they seem to have it set for their premixed stuff. The bar it ships with is sturdy enough for the average person , I've had it in a few binds already with no deformation or issue, however I usually prefer a slightly less flexible bar so I'll be replacing that. The chain it comes with is a standard Oregon chain so they didn't cut corners on that. Chain tensioner is a wyrm type with the adjustment screw on the face of the clutch cover so unless you're used to Husqvarna it may take a minute to get used to. They got rid of the two post handles on the oil and gas caps and switched back to a more traditional cap. Otherwise everything is reasonably solid and generally passable by today's standards. I only have two complaints about this product are that the pawl on the chain tensioner is pretty soft and that the automatic oiler is set way to high. as for the pawl on the chain tensioner I broke it the first time I got in a bind and tried to back the tension off to remove the bar/chain to cut the bar loose with my spare saw. Realistically this is my fault and upon inspection of the pawl there was no flaws in it so I simply over torqued it without realizing since I'm used to old tensioner with no gearing to assist. The oiler is pretty typical since your average homeowner only sharpens their chain when it starts to overheat which they then blame on the saw so the high oil flow will extend chain life, This doesn't mean I have to like pouring oil on the ground all the time though. This saw should be able to handle anything you want to do short of milling or constant logging and seems to be built in a way that most hobbyists and homeowners should be able to keep it running for years after the warranty runs out. ... show more
