This is stronger than my other pump that I bought for hundreds of dollars, and it has broken down twice because of the impeller not being free floated. The impeller for this pump is not connected to the spindle which reduces friction on a type of impeller that rotates on its own axle, the two points front and back. This solves the deterioration of it by the impeller rotating on a separate spindle. I'm expecting this to last longer than those that sell spare parts which they already know their product has a bad design. This one eliminates that deterioration through constant spinning. I'm using this on my aquaponics system, and it works way better than those other ones that the impeller destroyed the plastic housing because it rotates on the front face and the rear plate. I am using this pump in a homemade water filtration system for my fish and aquatic reptiles. I needed a pump that was strong enough to pull the water from the bottom of a barrel and would have good circulation. When I installed this unit and plugged it in, I noted that there was no priming needed, and it immediately started to suck the water from one barrel over the filtration material and out to the reserve barrel with ease. I also appreciated that it was not a very loud pump and that it came with a very long power cord so I could attach this to my ground fault socket without having to rely on an extension cord. The color is a nice olive green color, which compliments the color of my tanks, and the manufacture was considered to include multiple connection heads. If you need to move water around this hefty pump will probably satisfy. It seems really well made, pushes a lot of water, has a sort of flow control on the input side to reduce the flow, but even on most restricted flow, it's still quite strong. There are adaptors to common hose types and rubber suction feet to attach and reduce noise. It is not whisper quiet, but it is on the quiet side of the scale. I needed a reliable pump to keep the water agitated enough in my exterior fish tank so that there is always an opening in the surface when ice forms. I have just received this pump but it appears to be exactly what I was looking for. It seems to be of sturdy plastic material that comes apart for cleaning with no struggle.
