Install of the unit was straightforward, without any issues. All features work as described. The speakers are wired in directly, without an amp, and the sound is just as good as the old Kenwood head unit. Touchscreen works well and is very responsive. Menus are easy to navigate and some settings only need to be changed once. Phone connection through Bluetooth was easy, and music control works well with anything playing on the phone. You do need to change folders or playlists on the phone as the unit only lets you pause and skip forward/back. The phone link works well, I'm using it with an iphone 12 and haven't had any issues with the connection. The unit mirrors the screen but you can't set it to landscape as default, at least not that I could find. The image does rotate to landscape if you have certain apps open, such as google maps. I was happy to see that I could still control the music while on maps. Having Carplay on our other vehicle, this mirroring setup has pros and cons. since it is only mirroring the phone you cant use the touchscreen to make changes. on the plus side, you can play video from most apps. video from my photos played all the time, as did youtube. prime video gave an error that an hdmi connection was needed and video didn't play. Netflix is iffy (only got it to play once), and I didn't have any downloaded videos to play, your mileage may vary. The video coming from the rear camera is ok, not great quality like my 2020 kia, but better than an 09 audi which I have for reference. Overall the video quality is satisfactory especially in the day. I was surprised that the camera has actual lights on the perimeter instead of infrared (phones can capture IR lights, but attached picture is actual visible lights. similar to a small flashlight). My guess is that this camera is only color and does not have monochrome used for IR. I'll have to use it more often to see if it's worth getting a different camera, but so far it's better to have something than nothing. Just my preference, but I also set the unit to mute the music when I place the car in reverse. For those who use "hey siri", it worked just fine with the phone hard wired and through Bluetooth when I used it to make calls. I guess you can use that to pull up different music/open apps, I just haven't tested it. I was a bit concerned when I saw other reviews that stated you needed to contact customer support for custom splash logo and wallpapers. However, I got and email back within hours and had the updated software by the end of the day. This is honestly one of the top customer support experiences I've had! the unit can have 4 of each, wallpaper and logo, added to the software. setup was super easy and the update process took about 10 min. Overall VERY HAPPY with this purchase. After owning this product for a few months, I am sharing my experience with this radio. As a FYI, I am VERY careful with purchases and research way too much before buying a product. After carefully looking through all of the low-cost units (literally every single one on Amazon), I decided on this one. By far, I am most satisfied with the customer support. PLZ has been available to assist and has gone above and beyond every time I have reached out. I have communicated with them through Facebook messenger, and they have sent updates via email that have fixed any problems I’ve encountered. They also have included custom startup logos for my car. They do this in a timely fashion and are reliable and consistent in their communication. In terms of the radio itself, it has been an excellent purchase for the price. I needed an affordable unit for my daily driver, and this fit the budget. The Bluetooth for music is very reliable and clear - always connecting to my phone automatically (which was a problem with a unit I had that was 3x the price). The EQ is good, with a sufficient amount of faders to adjust frequencies. It takes a steady hand to get the faders adjusted exactly how you want them, as they adjust very easily (not necessarily a bad thing). The LEDs on the unit can be changed to a variety of colors, or can cycle through them all by default. The brightness is excellent, with the ability to adjust it very high or low, and it automatically adjusts to nighttime with my headlights. I also love that it has a blackout mode if you hit the top right corner to cycle it through the different brightness settings (daytime, nighttime, blackout). This is perfect for night driving where I don’t need to see the screen. The radio is easy to program presets, just find the station you want to save, and then tap and hold the preset you want to overwrite. The radio defaults to the radio upon startup, so make sure you have a decent station programmed so you don’t just have static when you first turn your car on. You can also set the default startup volume in the settings, which is a lifesaver if you are running an amplifier. The Bluetooth volume for calls is slightly low, and I used to need to have the unit at full volume. I installed a small amp when I upgraded my speakers, so I do not have a problem anymore, however. I would recommend purchasing an external microphone, as people expressed it was hard to hear me when driving at faster speeds. This is expected for any unit, and for only $5-10 for a mic, it was no issue. The screen mirroring is the reason that I purchased this unit. The YouTube app is a bit glitchy when mirroring with this unit in my experience, but it works better if you watch it through Safari. While it doesn’t work with Netflix or Hulu (those apps encrypt their videos to prevent you from doing this, as expected) I have found workarounds for watching any shows I want. Pro tip for iPhone users - download the app “Video Saver”, use the browser within the app to find the link for the show/movie you want to watch and before going to full screen where it will likely not allow you to continue watching due to copyright/encryption, click and hold the video on your screen and select “View with Player” to bypass the issue and watch it full screen on your unit. This is a small workaround, but unlocks the full potential of this unit, making it an incredibly powerful tool for entertainment. When updating the unit via a USB drive, be sure to follow the instructions VERY carefully. You will likely brick your unit if you are not careful. When you start the install, the radio fades to black and stays black for a few seconds. I can imagine people thinking it didn’t work or glitched at this point and turning the car off or unplugging the USB drive at this point, but DON’T. Updates take about 5 minutes in my experience, but here’s the thing - other companies and units I’ve used do not provide updates at all! It is great to see a company that is providing customer support and cares about the customer experience beyond the initial release of the product. In a recent phone update from Apple, I lost the ability to screen mirror. PLZ was quick to respond to me, and I had 2 different updates sent within a day that fixed the issue. Overall, the customer service makes this purchase unmatched. Other companies I have reached out to will not respond or take a very long time for essentially no assistance.
