Pleasant Hearth AT-1002 Ascot Fireplace Glass Door, Black, Large From the Manufacturer The Ascot Collection Fireplace Glass Door is a decorative bi-fold style door with a high heat powder coat finish which enhances a traditional masonry fireplace hearth. This one piece frame construction is designed as a surface mount and sits outside fireplace opening against flat surface. A Fireplace Glass Door assists in reducing heat loss or cool air loss up the chimney by as much as 90 percent. That equals a year round energy savings when fireplace is not in use. The Fireplace Glass Doors all come with easy grip handles, hidden damper control knobs for air flow control and heat resistant thick insulation. For masonry fireplaces only - not for prefabricated. Always keep mesh panels closed and glass doors open when fire is burning in fireplace. Before you buy, measure the front opening width and height to choose the correct size. Made in the U.S.A. The actual frame height includes a 2 inch riser bar.

The fireplace isn’t bad, I like the look, but there are little things that just aren’t done right. Quality control: 1. as you can see, some of the hardware screws arrived rusted in their sealed bag. I’d rather not start my fireplace doors with rust day 1. Easy fix but I shouldn’t have to make trips to re-buy something I already bought 2. The doors don’t arrive lined up and the screws are hard to access for adjustment. An actual hinge for one of the glass panels is bent just enough to keep the doors from lining up properly and rubbed the finish off of the frame during shipping. Not super cool. General: The doors are easy to install and I did it by myself. You will want to buy extra insulation if your fireplace hearth is not perfect and square, there is just enough to line the fireplace door frame but not enough to make up for any quirks in the brickwork (rightly so). Visually, be aware that the screen doors meet to put a 1” wide black bar right down the middle of the fire you’re viewing which some people may not enjoy. Summary: I would buy again used or on sale but not new and be aware you will likely need to buy extra materials to get the seal you need for everything to fit up right. ... show more

I bought these fireplace doors to replace the rusted out ones from the 1990's that came with the house. The ones I replaced simply had two clamps on each side to hold it in place, so I figured it would be easy to replace them. I was wrong. The Ascot model I bought has a clamp towards the bottom of each side, and two clamps on the top of the frame. The side clamps were easy, the top clamps had both my son and I crawling into the fireplace to try to get them to stay put. We followed the directions, watched the video twice, and still couldn't get the bloody things to stop popping off after we tightened the screws and let go. I finally had to create a dent into the lintel to set the point of the thumbscrew into so they didn't slide off. I ordered the large size because my fireplace measured 28" high by 36" wide, which falls right on the line where the sizes split. I probably should have gotten the medium because we had to pull the screen away from the wall to get the pressure bracket into the inside most holes on the screen, then push the screen back against the wall. If the fireplace had been even a half inch smaller it would not have worked. It currently June in North Carolina so we have not had a fire in the fireplace yet so I can't comment on how it works with a fire in it. It is keeping the kittens out of the fireplace and the a/c in the room, which was my main goal at this time.     • A rim on the backside of the doors extends into the fireplace opening.
The back of the doors is not planar. There is a rim on the back that extends into the fireplace opening. Sadly this was not make clear in the description on Amazon. A drawing in the manual that came with the doors indicated that the back is planar with the slotted piece used to attach the doors to the fireplace. This is incorrect. I ordered doors to allow access to the maximum width of my fireplace. I assumed there would be some rows of brick visible at the top part of the opening. If the back side of the doors were planar that would have been the case. The rim that extends into the fireplace opening has the dimensions for the minimum size opening. The doors appear well made and sturdy. The double panel glass doors that folded flat on either side would have been ideal for my fireplace. I would have loved to use them. I took advantage of a used/returned item that had very little cosmetic damage to replace a very ugly and no functional brass/glass cover. We were able to install with minimal effort and modify to lock out the fireplace and keep little kids safe.

We were pleasantly surprised at the packaging quality and instructions booklet - what a rare thing these days! Over all quality seems very good; it’s heavy and the finish is smooth and consistent. The brackets and screws all appear to be top quality, too. We got the Large and even though it says the opening has to be 36” wide or more, it managed to fit in our 35 1/2” opening, so I didn’t have to cut bricks as I had expected; another pleasant surprise. I definitely recommend having a 2nd person hold up the unit while tightening the brackets in the fireplace opening so you can use two hands. It’s a beautiful door unit once installed. The glass and screen doors all feel tight and smooth when opening and closing, and everything lines up perfectly. So we’re super happy with it. We’ll see how it lasts and update the review if needed. One note to agree with other reviewers: the screen doors get hot, as expected, so be careful! I use a paint can opener to pull them open (it has a nicely hooked flat end), and an old pot holder to close them. Also, they like to slam a bit when the magnets get close, so if you have a baby sleeping or need it quiet, just be aware you’ll need to be careful to try and close it slowly. ... show more

Our masonry fireplace and old insert had different measurements which took some work around. I started on it but my husband finished securing it. The outcome is amazing. I did notice some paint peeling from it. I do hope it holds up for years to come.
