I live on a mountain farmstead in the Appalachians of Virginia, and I have a LOT of Adirondack chairs dotted throughout the property in order to take advantage of the mountain views. Some of the chairs that I have are made from wood, some are made of poly lumber, and a few are those cheap polypropylene twenty-dollar big box chairs. The wooden ones, although very nice, are not only expensive but they seem to start to break down after only 4-5 years depending on the type of wood used, unless I periodically re-stain or repaint them. The polypropylene chairs can easily crack and over time they fade and get a white chalky dust on them. I have found that the poly lumber chairs are the best, with a good compromise between durability, longevity, and fade resistance. Although I was happy to come across this chair, I will say that it is made from the older style HPDE composite lumber that has a bit of a waxy, mealy texture. But the fact that it folds flat at this price means that I am willing to overlook the HDPE construction at this price. You’ll immediately know that this is not made of wood when looking at it. There are better poly lumbers out there that have a more realistic imitation of wood, but usually that comes with a higher price tag. Assembly was straightforward, and it comes with everything you need. Once assembled, this chair is firm yet comfortable. The lean angle is not too severe, but the back won’t comfortably support my head when I press my head and neck back against it. The slide out beverage holder under the right armrest holds a can of soda without fear of it getting easily knocked over, and the ability of this chair to fold-up for easy storage is where it shines, although it takes a bit of forcefulness to get it completely folded and unfolded. When you sit in this chair, there is quite a bit of flex to it, based on the materials with which it is made and because it is a folder. The instructions do warn about this, but I still found it a little unsettling. Be aware that this chair is quite heavy at 32-pounds, so moving it around might be difficult for some folks. But at least you won’t need to worry about it getting blown around or knocked over during a storm. For the price I think this chair is a good value. If it wasn’t a folding chair, then I would have felt it was a bit pricey for an HPDE chair, but otherwise this should last many years with minimal maintenance. ... show more

This folding Adirondack chair from Plawdlik is a good option for a less pricy and low maintenance version of a classic chair. How do I know? I have dealt with the real wood version of Adirondacks for years and they are what I call diva chairs. Ha. They must be stripped and refinished every few years. They look great but they take a lot of work. After my last time, I decided that would BE my last time and I'd start transitioning to composite. This chair was very easy to put together. All the hardware was in a neat, labeled package (I LOVE this, huge timesaver from having to dig through a bag of loose hardware). The instructions were easy to follow and I had the chair put together in about 20 minutes. Following the directions to NOT use a driver, I only used the included manual tools during assembly. The only thing I really don't understand here is the folding function. It is not particularly helpful for storage as the chair only sort of folds. This chair does feel different from a real wood chair. It flexes a little when I sit in it and the finish is very slippery. This bodes well for cleaning, but there is no sitting on the edge of your seat with this! No choice but to slide on back and get comfortable. The chair is very sturdy feeling in spite of the flex and I have no concerns about my rather portly father-in-law sitting in it. The only problem here is that it's a little hard for him to get out of it since it is slick. The wood grain looks like a typical stamped wood grain. It really isn't necessary because it's obviously fake and does not lend any grip to the chair anyway. Overall, I am very pleased with this chair. It is a very good looking chair at a price that is far below what I spend in time and materials refinishing my other chairs. I'm looking forward to simply enjoying and not working on this chair for years to come. ... show more
