  • Fantastic entry-level pizza stove but the included cutter is garbage, and you'll need another peel
Color: Grey 1
We've been on a homemade-pizza making kick even before we finally committed and picked up this Aprafie pizza oven, and now that we have it we're basically relearning everything we thought we knew about making pizza as we go from a conventional oven to the pizza oven. ***Early Pizza Lessons*** 1. Keep the crust well-floured and monitor its temperature are you add your sauce and toppings. 2. Get a slatless pizza peel (the one included here has holes running up and down it and that can easily cause tears in your uncooked crust as you load it into your stove. That one is fine for once your pizza is done or has been cooked for a few minutes, but it's not what you'll want to load the raw pizza into your stove (at least not while you're still learning). 3. Less toppings (at first) results in more success. It's tempting to rush in with a fully loaded pizza the way you want it, but for your first few attempts just go for a cheese pizza as you figure it out, you'll waste less food in the end too. 4. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR PIZZA FOR THE ENTIRE COOK. The best part about pizza ovens is that they cook things super quickly, so they don't require a lot of time for your focus. But the time that cooking process does require? Give it your full attention. Especially at first. You'll be amazed at how quickly 700-900 degrees of heat cooks a pizza, and you need to be watching it like a hawk to see when to turn it and remove it. ***Setup*** The nice thing about this stove is that it's effectively good to go right from the start, just hook up the propane, put the pizza stone in, and you're off and running. ***Accessories*** The included travel bag is appreciated and great for long-term storage, but the peel leaves a bit to be desired, especially for first-timers. Two accessories I'd recommend picking up in addition to this kit are a ranged thermometer so you can gauge the inside temp of the pizza stone and a pizza peel that DOESN'T have holes in it, as your first times loading in a pizza that feature of the peel will likely result in some raw crust tearing. The pizza slicer included here is NOT great, but if you're like me you probably already have a better one. ***Does it make good pizzas?*** Yes, this thing is absolutely capable of producing pizzeria-quality pizzas, but it definitely takes some practice. One thing we found helpful was to buy a couple of budget frozen pizzas and to let them thaw and experiment that way before trying homemade raw dough which takes an added bit of effort. Also, you won't be as heartbroken if you mess up on one of those and it all goes awry. Once you do get a handle on it though, you can produce amazing pizzas. ... show more

  • More Trouble Than It's Worth.
Color: Grey 1
This pizza oven does work, but it's a rather bare bones affair. The instructions were minimal. Perhaps they assumed everyone would be familiar with these ovens and their use. Fortunately it was fairly simple to put together. I was worried for awhile because I ended up with a long metal wire piece that was never mentioned. I was concerned that that something important might have come out in transit. Finally though I read comments from an earlier purchase that the wire was a way to get a match in to light the stove when you have problems with the igniter. That seems logical, so I was free to move forward. There's no way to tell the temperature so you just set it running and hope for the best. After a few tries and probably failures, you get a sense of how long it takes to heat up. Best guess is 10-15 minutes. It comes with a pizza stone, paddle, and cutter. The stone and paddle seem fine, I found the cutter a pain to use and reverted to the sturdier one I've had for years. It becomes a great deal of work since you really have to keep and eye on the pizza to ensure that it's cooking evenly and not burning. You might have to use the paddle to rotate the pizza quite a bit. If that's the case, don't load the toppings too near the pizza edge, or they'll begin to spill all over the stone and make cooking more difficult. This pizza oven is OK, but I don't think I'll be using it as much as I'd hoped I would. It's just too basic and awkward. ... show more

  • Great to start, but just fell short.
Color: Grey 1
Okay on the plus side it’s a pizza oven and it comes with a gas regulator, spatula, pizza cutter, and match holder. DO NOT get your face any where near this thing when lighting it. So the bag that comes with it is a complete was of time and no body can figure that one out. I wish there was a thermometer built into the oven. The pizza does not cook evenly and requires a lot of turning. Which I don’t even mind doing that, but it toasts the cheese and leaves the crust raw. This item needs a little work to make it a winner, but it still functions ... show more
