Disclaimer: I literally just started using this, so this isn't a review of long-term usage. I will update my review as needed! Long story short: It's working great after I just installed it on a below-freezing winter night for my rescued stray dog! More details: I bought this after recently rescuing a dog who has never lived indoors. Her preferred shelter is a dog house with a comforter stuffed inside. But I worry about her on winter nights like tonight, where temps drop below freezing. The comforter and plastic dog house just don't seem like enough. So I put this heating pad in her house tonight, and she is LOVING IT!!! First, I did test it instead: I plugged it in and put my cold feet on it. Within a couple minutes, I felt a solid but not overwhelming heat beginning to warm up my feet. So then I took it out to her dog house. On previous cold nights, my rescue dog usually goes into her dog house by 6pm and won't come out unless you REALLY encourage her to. I think it's because she's reluctant to lose the body heat she's trying to maintain while curled in a ball. But with this heating pad in there, she's been happy to come out into the cold and "say hi" when I go check on her -- probably because her overall body temp is higher and she can "afford" to come out and not feel like she's losing critical body heat. And when I pet her after she emerges, she feels comfortably warm! She just seems happier, and I'm hoping this will ensure that she won't sleep miserably on cold nights as I slowly try to acclimate her to living indoors. I'm really grateful to have found this heating pad. I will DEFINITELY update this review if I notice any issues going forward. After all, we still have quite a bit of winter temps left to deal with, and I need this thing to perform reliably! ... show more

I bought a shelter and heating pad combo for my outdoor cat for when it gets really cold. But the pad never got very warm at all so he rarely used the shelter. I replaced that heating pad with this one, it is noticeably warm and he loves it. Now when it's really cold and I check on him he's snuggled up in his little house, and he gives me an approving meow. Using this in an outdoor cat house for 3 outdoor cats. 2 of them like it. It appears the 3rd cat thinks it's too warm at times because i see him laying outside the house at times. It's nice quality though. I like the feature where it is only on when a cat is on the matt.

The winters here in Maryland aren’t as bad as they are in other places, but it does frequently get down into the teens around here. I wanted to provide some relief to our 8 feral cats/kittens this year, and this heated pad seems to really do the trick. I bought this pad to put in a 15”x25” plastic storage bin located on our deck, situated partially under the picnic table and protected on the other side somewhat by the house. I put a honeycomb rubber mat between the heating pad and the wooden deck to keep the pad out of the water and provide a little insulation. The electric outlet is only a couple of feet away, so this location seemed pretty much perfect. This pad was almost as large as the box, and I couldn’t find one that fit better. The cats and kittens initially looked into the box, then they took a few steps into it with half the body still hanging out. It only took a day or so before they were going in and lying on the pad. It wasn’t uncommon for three or four of them to squeeze into the box, especially at night. The pad worked great, aided, of course, by the body heat of their brothers and sisters. Interestingly, Mom usually stayed alongside the box and wouldn’t go in. Maybe to protect her kittens? I think so. I ended up buying a much larger 17”x41” storage container (90 gallons, I think). This box is large enough for all 8 of them, including Mom who now goes in the box too. The heating pad is now in the far end of the box with roughly 1/3 of the box floor unheated. I’m planning to buy a larger pad if I can find one. I periodically reach in to feel the heating pad cover to make sure it’s not getting wet. I have washed and dried the cover twice now since my purchase. The cover appears to be holding up well. No signs of cat chewing. Similarly, nobody seems to be interested in chewing on the “armored” power cord either. Although the electronic control is supposed to only energize the pad when there is some specific amount of weight on it, the pad appears to be warm all of the time. It’s only 40 watts (I think), so I’m not concerned, but the control may not be working exactly as designed. That might be my only criticism. We have a total of 6 heating pads, 3 of them are this brand! This brand is the best ever because it works when there are cats on it and shuts done when not in use! The other three we have to turn off and they aren't as cost effective. We have feral cats and this is their heat source in the winter, they went through 4 or 5 really bad snow storms with temperatures well below zero, we live in South Dakota. We would definitely purchase this brand again. ... show more
