  • Powerhouse Super-Bright Mantles at Bargain Price
These Peerless mantles are better than any other alternatives, producing 250 lumens, compared to 200 for just about all the rest. They outperform and outlast the Coleman OEM's today and are at least equal to the earlier Coleman mantles in the 1980's and 90's. They are larger in size, burn better, and hold up better. I still have some of the original Coleman mantles using the old 'radioactive' materials, and these live up to that old Coleman standard, while recently made Coleman mantles do not. The web forums on Coleman Lanterns all proclaim these Peerless mantles the 2C-HG as the top of the heap. ' ... show more

  • It’s safe to say these are the best quality mantles you can get
I’ve tried numerous mantles but peerless always seem to burn in better and hold up great than the newer Coleman mantles. I run these on all of mine plus the 111’s on my 236-237 500VP models. Other brand mantles seem to always get holes as they turn in so you waste a mantle or two before getting a good one. I’ve never had an issue with these. They’re fragile of course after burning in but compared to Coleman brand they hold up better, I’ve bumped and hit them by accident with my fingers or matches and they don’t just disintegrate instantly. They also provide a little whiter cleaner light than the Coleman brand. These are the closest you can get to the good old Coleman silk lites. The photos taken in the daylight look like they have a yellow color but at night they’re bright white. Incase you don’t know these mantles are for use on most any double mantle lantern or smaller single mantle models like the Coleman 242, 200a, or even the milspec 252’s. ... show more

  • They are fine mantles. Not "Hot", but good.
These mantles are not thoriated, they didn't read above background. Vintage silk-lites read above 2,000cpm. I'm guessing these are Yttrium-based. For what they are, they are great. I'm assuming "For American and European markets" on the package indicates the lack of thorium.

  • Geiger approved, 12 for 18.50, used on Leackock 107 lamp, Coleman 220, & Stansport propane lanterns
I do not have the experience to say that the old Coleman silk lite were better. We used a 220 when I was kid, for car camping trips. Only recently I've worked my way back to these, starting with kerosene wick ("hurricane") lanterns. I got a cheap Geiger counter to check these and Aladdin mantles. These set it off (and the older Aladdin REALLY set it off LOL). I paid $18.50 from the distribution warehouse instead of $17.50 from the US supplier. I haven't tried comparisons to prove that they provide superior brightness, but for the price I will stock up on these rather than chase the collectible silk lites. ... show more

  • Great value for the money!
Was in search of a more durable mantle for my Coleman Lantern. From what I've experienced I might have found it. If you're having issues with your Coleman mantles blowing out during light up or you're trying to get that "whiter" burn these are the mantles you're looking for. So far from my experience with lots of all-weather camping and living in a part of the country with lots of power outages these mantles from Peerless have proven to be worth every penny. They seem to be more durable than their competition, which is what I'm looking for, especially in an emergency. ... show more

  • Much better than the cheap Coleman
Nice and bright. Much better than the Coleman brand!

  • Gets whiter, after a few burns
First firing was very orange. After the 3rd and 4th time, much brighter and whiter. Overall, great buy. Used in 220F

  • Seem to work OK.
The mantles seem to work OK. They fit my Coleman lanterns fine. However they are a bit pricy but then all mantles have gotten pricy lately. I wish that a better formula was developed to replace the older Thorium mantles as the decrease in light is obvious.
