We bought this to stop one of our cats from scratching up the fabric on the back of the couch, and I have to say, it works. After putting this on, our cat hated the feeling of it, and our couch is safe. Trying to get the backings off is a little tricky because it’s so sticky, but once you’ve got it off it’s easy to apply. I had a problem with a kitten jumping up on the back of a recliner chair to attack the silk tree that is behind the chair. I needed something that would act as a deterrent without preventing someone from sitting in the chair. So I determined that the best thing to do would be to put one of these strips on an older towel which was then placed over the top of the recliner. When we need to use the chair we just move the towel to a safe place, meaning a place where it's not going to get stuck onto something else, and then we use the chair. When we leave the room we put it back. The first time we use this I remember going downstairs in the morning and wondering if I was going to see the tree on its side and branches ripped off of it but it was still standing! As I got closer to it I could see in the glue a little paw print so I know that the little nugget had tried to get up on the chair and the glue stripped at its job! On the second day later in the day I heard a noise and I went downstairs and my cat was looking up at me all innocent but the towel was lying by the stairs instead of being on top of the chair and it was folded over a little bit which I wasn't too happy about but since then he stays away from the tree. Now I'm using a strip on top of the counter that he's jumping up on to see if I can train him away from that as well. So the best thing for me is that I know the cat can come in contact with the glue and it doesn't harm him. Because there's so many different sizes it allows you to get creative in the way that you use it. That's important because everyone has different needs and the versatility of this product makes it definitely worth giving it a try. Great on un damaged furniture, doesn’t work as well on furniture that’s already scratched. They also collect lint/hair (to be expected) and can peel off on you if you bump into them. I got a new couch that I didn’t want my cat tearing up and these have worked pretty well to deter her. Even after the outward facing side dried out they still prevented her from scratching. I put them on another piece that was already kind of scratched and they didn’t work as well, they peeled up easily at the edges and then my cat tried to rip them off with her teeth which may be a good case for getting the kind that you pin on. ... show more

I just got a new cat- the first cat I've ever gotten with claws. Wasn't prepared and she wrecked one corner of my sofa. Should have gotten these sooner but I didn't hear about them soon enough. I put them on both of the popular scratch corners of my sofa. She stopped scratching them! She uses the cardboard scratch pad next to the sofa instead. This worked like a charm. I had a fairly large scratching post by the couches and for some reason she did not use the post and would use the couches to scratch on. These panels were very self explanatory. I only placed them on the corners of my couches as that was the only places she would scratch. While these were in place I had also ordered a larger more sturdy scratching post. I ordered 'SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post – Gray, Large 32 Inch Tower - Sisal Fiber, Simple Design - For All Cats' (highly recommended). With the new post and the tape together its been great in getting them to scratch the post and not the couches. I have not removed them yet, but they are very sticky. Your clothes and your other animals fur will stick to them when passing by. ... show more

    • Temporary Solution but Works!

I don’t believe that these can be used to TRAIN cats, but they do work while they’re on the furniture. The problem is that I don’t think you’re supposed to use them long-term or they could leave residue on the furniture. I’ve been replacing them after a couple months each time.

This stuff works. The cat hates it. What they don’t tell you is this…when you cut to size, the side without the arrow (which indicates where to pull off the blue backing) is now useless because there is zero way to get the backing off without the arrow. I wasted I wasted two sheets half of two sheets by making this mistake. ... show more
