  • NOT AN EASY TASK!!! You MUST have strength, technical ability, Experience with this kind of thing.
Size Name: 0.250X2"X31"
I have worked in factories all my life doing design, installation, programming, and troubleshooting. I run and workout several times a week. I am 61 years old, but I run circles around punks half my age. look up "garage door spring replacement" on YOUTUBE.COM to get an idea of what is instore, but keep in mind the guys make it look easier than it really is because they have done it 1000 times before. This job is not easy. in fact it can be down right dangerous. it requires being up on a ladder doing heavy manipulation of bars, cables, pulleys, the door itself, and tightly sprung torsion springs. it requires careful alignment, and winding up 2 springs 35 times (8' door). Respect the winding bars and do not put any part of your body in the way if they release and whack your face, you are in big trouble. the springs that are on your door now may not be the original ones and the last repair may have been done with whatever the guy had on his truck the time before. I know mine were different once I got these, because the paint line on the bar ended 4" away from the end of the spring. I had to do extra refinement to balance between keeping the door sprung over the whole travel, and the door wanting to ride up hot without being touched. I called the local garage door place and they only wanted $350 to do the whole thing including the springs. I wish I had done that, but I do have the satisfaction of doing it myself successfully and saving $200+. this is the kind of a job that your neighbors will hear you cussing!! ... show more

  • Better than I expected
Size Name: 0.262X2"X40"
We have an old 16’ wooden heavy garage door from the 80’s and already had the springs replaced professionally some years ago. This time I chose to do it myself and bought these springs which were the next thicker wire size and a longer spring. These look like better quality springs than what I’m replacing and we paid a pretty penny for those things years ago. The cones actually look identical as the old ones. The price was good and they arrived on time just as promised. Very happy about that. There is some valuable information online regarding spring selections and also some helpful videos on YouTube that walked me through this process. If you are mechanically inclined, you can do this if you use caution. I budgeted the afternoon and had all the tools laid out ahead of time. The instruction sheet was more informative than I expected and the winding rods fit well and have a nice non-slip rubber handle which was handy. Unwinding the remaining old spring was the biggest challenge for me as one of the previous installers was a hack and overtightened the set screws which distorted my main tube preventing the old cone from rotating as it should during the unwinding process. Patience won out and the rest of the disassembly went well. Have some big vice grips handy for the main bar to help keep the assembly locked in place once you get the cables back on their respective pulleys and slack out. Also had some big c clamp vice grips on the track just above the roller to keep the door closed until I’m ready for it to move. Before winding I used a white paint pen and a straight edge to draw a line along both springs and then had a helper to come verify and call out round counts as I wound them 90* at a time. Remember to position yourself to the side of the assembly and not facing it. 30 was my count target number for each spring and as it turned out I didn’t need to readjust at all. Took off the upper bar clamp and the c clamps and she was balanced close enough that my wife could easily raise and lower this beast of a door which she never could before. Hooked up the trolley on the opener and she worked smooth and quiet on the first try. I think the coating on the springs also help to make the door quiet and smooth. Very happy with them so far! ... show more

  • Works as described
Size Name: 0.218X2"X23"
I bot this package. My "Left" garage door spring busted. When my house was built they installed both single garage doors with "Left" door springs. this package comes with a Left and Right. So I used the right this time so I have the left one in storage. I got this package because the price and the spring is a thicker gauge. The Thicker gauge means I didn't have to wind it 30 quarter turns, but only 26 quarter turns. I got on Youtube and watched installation videos. Please follow all the safety instructions. But they are not hard to install. Just have to do them in steps. I recommend this thicker gauge. My original lasted 9 years and I was constantly opening that side of the garage. This should last that long or longer. This package is a good deal. ... show more

  • Worked great
Size Name: 0.218X2"X25"
So our spring snapped on my wife while I was away working and figured it would be an expensive repair since we're here in alaska and the typical repairs are usually about double what you would pay in the states. This was a simple fix and they're it easy to figure out what spring you actually need and after watching a few videos I was ready to attempt the repaing myself. The whole repair took roughly an hour to complete with my having my wife hand me tools that I needed. ... show more
