Not just on or off like most other fireplaces I looked at. The fire display is 3D in appearance and is a very stunning display! The flames have 13 different colors. It comes with crystals and logs that you have to set up yourself, but it is very easy to do. The bed also has 13 different colors to choose from. I was really on the fence about buying this because there was only 2 reviews and only 2 answered questions about it. Love this fire place. I didn’t put the sticks in just the rocks and it gave me the look I was going for. You can also add your own rocks if you want to customize this fireplace. The heat isn’t as strong as I thought it would be plus it’s at the top so not my favorite place for it. Being that it’s going up towards my mantle. I love how it looks, but im disappointed that this electric fireplace heater only works when it wants to. Most of the time, the heater doesn't work. Maybe this one was just defective. I'll might buy another one, one more time & see what happens
