  • they’ll ship them all like this from now on
This was shipped by Amazon it its original box only. When it arrived I saw a big gash on the box. Sure enough, when I opened it there was a major dent in the rim of the firebowl. I immediately called the manufacturer, because the instructions say to call them first before returning it to the retailer. Well they told me to go ahead and contact Amazon for a replacement. I did the return online and it came today. This time the box was placed inside another box with some paper stuffing to protect the inner box. When I opened the box there was no damage. Hopefully, they’ll ship them all like this from now on. This firepit works very well and puts out a lot of heat. The key to getting maximum heat is to make sure that you scatter the small rocks at the very bottom of the bowl. When you start laying the large rocks, do not set them too close to the gas ring. You don’t want to obstruct the holes at all. This will allow the flames to cascade around the larger rocks creating a high flame of 4 - 10 inches. If you let the rocks get too close to the holes the flames won’t be as high. The key is to create a circular tunnel of large rocks over the fire ring. Another bonus is the plastic cover that comes with it. The instructions say to keep it out of the rain and to put it away during rainy weather. Well, I’m too lazy to lug it into the garage every time it rains. When I put the cover on it I was surprised that it covered the whole thing, even the flame-shaped holes on the side. You definitely don’t need to move it inside when it’s raining once the cover is protecting it. I wasn’t keen on the aesthetics of a 20 lb. propane tank sitting out in the open so I also got this deck box to store it in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00013BUW8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I had to cut out a circle in the bottom so that the tank would fit since the tank is too tall. Now I have a nice looking storage box to house the tank and also to serve as a nice side table. There’s enough room inside to store the firepit cover, a cushion or two, or whatever. There’s a small gap between the bottom and the patio for the hose to fit into so that the hose threads up through the bottom, which you have cut out, and into the tank. Overall, an awesome fire pit. I used it on Thanksgiving night for several hours and didn’t see the gauge on my tank move very much. Update 9/2/15: Still loving this fire pit. I replaced the light weight l lava rocks with regular red lava rocks from my local rock/masonry supplier. Very cheap way to go and the rocks will last forever unlike the ones that are supplied. I'm also adding a picture of the Rubbermaid Brute 44 gallon trash can lid which I use to provide a solid rain cover. It costs only $16 right now for the black one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005KD0U16/ref=mobile_oh_details_?ie=UTF8&psc=1# ... show more

  • Definitely a smart buy!
The media could not be loaded. Bought this to take camping when there are fire bans. It was so easy to set up and comes with everything you need. The ascetics of this pit are great with the flame-shaped cutouts on the sides. It gave off amazing heat on those chili mountain mornings. I was so impressed with the ease of this pit that I’ll be using it on my patio as well. Definitely a smart buy! ... show more

  • Perfect when you want a fire, but are not allowed to build a camp fire where fire danger is high.
This is the second one we have purchased, and this is for a Christmas gift. They are nice and large for creating a camp fire when you don't have the means to make a camp fire, or you're in an area where camp fires are not allowed due to fire danger/ these propane fire pits are generally allowed where camp fires are not allowed. (check in your local area to find out) We use ours for get togethers with friends when fires are not allowed in our mountains during fire season- these are allowed in our area, so it makes it perfect for us, and it makes a nice large fire. Also we take it to Az. when we head south for the winter, and we use this in our R.V. park where wood access is non existent. It makes a great fire where we can sit around in lawn chairs with a drink in hand and it is darn near as good as a fire. Very easy to light, and gives some source of heat- not much if your looking to have this to keep warm. It is more for looks, yet you can also roast hot dogs, and marshmellows if you want to use it for this. Easy to use in your yard as well. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • It's almost good as it gets for the size.
Heat output is really good, with no breezes. Constant wind is a no go. Works good under the covered deck. Its comfy out with this thing on December 4th in Ky . No real assembly needed. I would say to strategically build your rock pile for optimal flames though. Maneuverability is good, easy to move where and when you need, get the bag.... comes with the cover as you'll need it to keep the rocks in while moving in the bag. Few things I did not like while exploring though 1) Most fire rings have a central hook up and this does not which means if the rings gets worn there is no replacement or upgrades , so check the site and contact customer service to see if there are replacements. 2) This has a pressure switch. Must maintain a certain amount of pressure in order to function. Which also means buying a nice 150k BTU air mixture valve to get your flames higher and hotter wont work. You could but you would be Frankensteining it. Its worth the buy ... It will get its use and long-term durability is still on question It is made of good material and is a better buy than a 300 pit table which are not made for actual winter use. ... show more

  • Great product!
This was a great purchase! I am so glad we got it for our camping trip! There was a total burn ban so it was great to have. It is a nice size too! We love it! It burned for about a total of 10 hours on a tank of propane.
