OK, nobody eats smoked foods for their "health benefits." We eat them because they taste great! But the unique two-chamber design of this smoke generator surely offers some health benefits that no single chamber smoke generator can. I realized this when I cleaned the auxiliary chamber, not the one with the smoking pellets but the chamber into which the smoke is drawn before it is ejected into the grill via a venturi effect. After a four hour smoke using mesquite pellets, there was about a quarter inch of thick, gooey tar (or "smoke oil") on the bottom of the chamber, tar that did NOT make it into my food! I'd say that is some sort of health benefit! The device was very easy to assemble with clearly illustrated instructions. It came with its own high quality Phillips head screwdriver and a mini wrench to complete the assembly. They provided twice as many stainless steel screws and wing nuts as the assembly required, so there was no danger of being unable to assemble the generator due to a lost screw. The package includes a wire-bristle bottle brush that is used to clean the chambers after use. The fan is quiet and very effective with a lot of variability in the output.     • Smokes like a diesel locomotive!!
This thing is awesome! I wanted something that would smoke pellets. I tried one other brand which was highly rated but performed terribly. I think the design was fantastic actually. It was extremely hard to light and keep lit. I tried pellets and two types of chips; regular and extra fine. Even when it was lit, it didn't smoke worth a darn. I think maybe a stronger air pump may have helped. Note: most units advertise with videos showing wood chips added to the chamber although they say they will burn pellets also. This unit is simple! Pour in the pellets, turn the pump on high, light them through each (2) holes, and let it start puffing. The instructions say to run on high for 1.5-2.0 minutes but it didn't take a minute at the most. The full chamber burned for ~7 hours at half power. I hot smoked a rack of ribs first. Easy cook. I set the pump at 1/2 power and still made plenty of smoke. I didn't want to over power the food. I highly recommend this unit. Plus it is half the cost of others! 2 THUMBS UP!! ... show more

Welding failed on first real use (it did fine in the 1 hour test run) of ~3 hours. The telescoping plumb stem broke from the lid. I can't return because I tossed the box and I have a big smoke planned for tomorrow (~12 hrs for Kalua pig). I'm just going to have to hope JB weld will hold for now.... Otherwise, it did great with giving consistent smoke as long as you can keep the tube straight. ... show more

My expectations were pretty low at this price point, but this thing is pretty well built, and it works great. I also like that the pump is attached to the device and there is a handle so you can pick the entire thing up, and it just sits on the ground.

    • Very Cool Smoke Generator
The media could not be loaded. I did not have high expectations for this smoke generator since I got it on such a discount but wanted to try something to do smoke flavoring on my Weber Gas Grill. I was very surprised with the amount of smoke it produces and how easy it is to use. It is a large unit fully assembled and maybe a little hard to store but I will say using some pellets it produced 30 minutes or more of solid smoke off of about 2 handfuls of pellets, which is great for flavoring a steak, pork chops, hamburgers, etc. It likely would be hard to use as a smoker since you would have to keep nursing along with adding more wood. I have a smoker but that is work setting it up and putting it away. This is an easy way to add smoke only when you just want to add a little flavor. Have not tried to cold smoke with it yet but I would guess it would work well. ... show more
