It has no nasty chemical smell, does hurt your wood floors, but will kill the bugs on contact and help control them from running around your house. My husband would like me to replace the last star. I'm going to justify taking it. Hubby: the product works. You barely apply a splotch to the corners of a room and watch an earwig die on the floor. Wife: i watched bugs go into siezures for weeks after he uses this stuff. The bugs haven't even touched the sprayed spots that i know of. I have to live here too. Hubby: we treated the outside of door and window frames. The moths flew in spiralled out and died. Clearly the best mosquito protection. Wife: doesn't this imply that it contains evaporating chemicals so potent to achieve... I can't deny it works for months, not 12. Not in the southern swamps anyway. It's very humid and often 100 for weeks. I really don't know what that does to the chemicals usefulness or toxicity. In my home it's obviously the most efficient thing we've used. Easily clearing away fleas, spiders, kudzu beetles, centipedes, roaches, anything flying, and my number one loathed nemesis the fire ant. I took that last star for the migraine i get for a month after we apply it even super sparingly. But that's a choice, as a consumer, that i make willingly to avoid itchy bites, burning fire ant stings, and other creepy crawly oober unsanitary bugs I wouldn't recommend it to homes with young children.     • Don't waste your money

I am very disappointed in this product. First and foremost the sprayer stinks. I went online and found SEVERAL blogs from years ago complaining about the sprayer not working properly after the first use. The second use it sprayed. But like a stream of water from a hose, and only after replacing the batteries, which was within 2 weeks of the first use. Tonight (5 weeks later after purchase) my family found itself in need. Why? Spider activity which I thought would be taken care of after two sprayings. Tried to spray the spiders in house coming in by the sliding glass door only to find the sprayer not working at all. Replaced the batteries AGAIN! The second battery replacement within 5 weeks, and only two uses. The blogs say, "take apart the sprayer and soak it in warm water to clean in it", or "hold the container waist high and the the sprayer down." WHAT!!!! First of all cleaning it out after two uses, and only 5 weeks? Second I bought this to save money because I am disabled and on a fixed income, AND I CAN'T LIFT THE THING WAIST HIGH!!! Let's just say I am not recommending this at all. Calling a pro to come back. Can't believe the sprayer issue has been known for years evidenced by the blog and THEY STILL HAVEN'T ADDRESSED IT!!!! ... show more

    • Ortho's wand is NOT reliable

I don't like writing this review and hope it doesn't reflect on the seller, who delivered on time. This is my third or fourth Home Defense that I've purchased in the last six years. Why do I keep doing it? I honestly don't know and will not continue. Out of the four, two have had faulty wands. They work the first or second time... maybe using about 1/2 cup or one cup of the liquid. But after you store it, turned off at the nozzle, turned off on power, turned off on the switch... the nozzle doesn't spray when you need it again. It gets clogged. It wants to spray... makes the noise, but nothing comes out. I've washed it, doesn't help. No response from Ortho. I won't purchase again. Fooled me too many times. I recommend finding another company or another sprayer because theirs just sucks, or rather doesn't blow. ... show more

This stuff works very well I live in the woods and have all sorts of crazy type of insects roaming around some you definitely dont want creeping into your home. It dosen't last six months though, more like 3 to 4 months I probably spray every 2 to 3 months to keep the full strength protection around the perimeter. ... show more

I live in Florida. You have to have pest control in place or you will end up with roaches in this area of the country. And good luck getting rid an infestation of those. I have a severe phoboa of them. I'm not from here. They are everywhere and make skin crawl. I've literally have had nightmares about them. So I was hesitant to try the product, even after the positive reviews and results of relatives and friends. I have been using this for almost a year and have not seen one live roach to date. I've seen two in my house both dead. This is sooo much cheaper than $75-100 four times a year for professional pest control. And your paying all that for them to come in spray the same or a similar product. Why throw all the money away when you can do it yourself in about 30 minutes for $20?! I do have 3 cats. This product is pet safe once dry. I put their food away and put them in a bed room while I do the rest of the house. Then let them back out when it's dry (not long maybe 30 min?).
