Features

  • [DURACORD ROPE]: Synthetic blend that is soft as cotton with durability of polyester. This rope is All-Weather and resistant to rot, mold and mildew. DuraCord is the densest rope on the market resulting in less stretch and increased support when relaxing.
  • [OAK SPREADER BAR]: Premium Oak hardwood that has been repeatedly hand-dipped in a honey gold marine-grade varnish for protection and longevity.
  • [DOUBLE-LATCH WEAVE]:Individual ropes are handwoven to pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed. This also allows us to use almost twice the amount of rope in each hammock than most of our competitors.
  • [ZINC PLATED HARDWARE]: We plate all our hardware, with zinc to protect against rust and ensure an overall longer outdoor life.
  • [HANDCRAFTED IN THE CAROLINAS]: Assembled using the finest parts and industry leading techniques.

Description

The Pawleys Island Hammocks story goes back to Carolina Low Country more than 130 years ago. Joshua John Ward, a river boat captain, simply wanted a good night’s sleep during sultry summers. He set out with some rope and wood, a little gumption and grit and soon fashioned what would become the basis for our company— the rope hammock—a hand woven bed, two wooden spreader bars, a clew knot with a ring for hanging the hammock. Pretty simple when you think about it. DuraCord is the solution to the quest for performance yarns with the look and feel of cotton. DuraCord is constructed of man-made industrial yarn that has been augmented with ultraviolet inhibitors and further anti-microbial enhancements to prevent degradation from outdoor exposure; but it is virtually indistinguishable from cotton. It has fooled even the experts! SPECIFICATIONS: Length: 13 ft. x Width: 55 in. Bed Length: 6 ft. 10 in. Weight Capacity: 450 lbs. Hanging Distance: 14-16 ft. Hanging Height: 4 ft. Read more DuraCord Rope Our own proprietary solution-dyed synthetic blend of rope, DuraCord, blends the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester. Made in the Carolinas, this combination yields a rope that has excellent color steadfastness and superior feel. DuraCord is dyed when spun, producing a rope that is colored all the way through. Like a carrot when sliced open, DuraCord has the same color on both the inside and the outside. Our DuraCord rope is the densest rope on the hammock market at 85 ft./lb., this results in less stretching and increased support when relaxing in your hammock. Oak Spreader Bar A wood that is naturally resistant to both rot and insect infestation, and has oils that repel water, Oak blends both exceptional strength and a handsome appearance. Our Oak spreader bars are repeatedly hand-dipped in honey-gold marine-grade varnish allowing a longer outdoor life and exceptional good looks. Our Oak spreader bars are a full 1 inch thick, compared to most other competitor’s spreader bars that measure at ⅞ inch. A thicker spreader bar allows more holes for rope, allowing the hammock bed to sit firmly on the hammock. Our spreader bars also feature countersink drilled holes. Countersink drilling is a technique that uses a trumpet drill bit that produces a hole with no hard angles, allowing the rope to pass through without any sharp edges to wear the rope. Double-Latch Weave All our Rope Hammocks are Handwoven by highly trained weavers that have mastered the technique of the Double-Latch Weave. This technique is best described when individual ropes pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, thus eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed itself. We use 15% more rope than our competitors, which provides a sturdier hammock bed for complete relaxation. Hardware We plate all our hanging hardware with Zinc Plated Coating, including both tree hooks that come standard with our hammocks. The zinc plated coating prevents the accumulation of rust and ensures a longer outdoor life. Our very own One- piece ring-knot and chain, a product of years of development, permanently attaches the chain to the O-ring. This produces a hammock that is more durable and most importantly makes it impossible to lose the chain. Note: Don't worry if your own Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock at first seems a little shorter than its advertised length; your hammock will soon reach its full length through natural stretching from initial use. • A Potential Risk for Kids
Color: Oatmeal
First, you should know that we purchased the supposedly identical model of Pawleys Island DuraCord Rope Hammock in 2007 and loved it! After 12 years of wonderful use, the wooden support at one end broke so we decided to replace it with the same model. While the designation may indicate it is the same product, it certainly is not. As the attached photos indicate, the web cord mesh is now so flimsy that our two-year-old and four-year-old grandchildren fall through it. The third photo shows the same kids on the previous model which clearly has much tighter webbing. The problem seems to stem from the fact that rather than having 22 points of origin, the cord now has only 18 points of origin at each end. (Despite my reporting it, the photo still used on the website still shows the old 22 points mesh rather than the current 18 points.) Another part of the problem may be that the cord seems a significantly lighter gauge and perhaps made of a different material. Whatever the causes, the hammock is very different and, as the photos indicate, a potential risk for young kids. ... show more

  • Expected better.
Color: Oatmeal
I am wondering if I should exchange this for their other one. This one, the duracord ropes are kind of hard, stiff. Not too comfy on the head. And the quality is not what I expected. Some of the knots look like the manufacturer (China?) skimped on rope - like they ran out and had to fill in. I thought Pawleys was supposed to be the best. The timeshare I have in Cabo have wonderful hammocks, and I will get the brand name in February 2018 when I am there next. ... show more

  • 7+ years and still going strong
Color: Oatmeal
My hammock has spent sever years outside full time in the South Louisiana sun and rain. Moss and mildew finally forced me to clean it last week. I hosed it down to knock off the heavier spots and soaked it overnight in a 32 gallon garbage can full of water and Oxy Clean. Now it is back to what it looked like in year 2. Btw, the cords are hard when it’s new but it gets softer in time. I fall asleep almost every time I lay in mine. ... show more

  • Crappy weak wood.... not oak
Color: Oatmeal
The rope was and still is good after a few years but the wood on only one end is garbage! It is punky, like rotted out from the inside! It is not oak like ones that I have bought from Pawley Island in the past! Snapped in two and cannot be fixed! A shame to use such crappy spongy balsa like wood! It was hardly ever used and taken inside mostly during inclement. ... show more

  • I saw them at our local science museum in a public outdoor area and I loved the look and feel
Color: Oatmeal
I am not a fan of buying name brand products. I pride myself on buying off brand or generic whenever possible. I have done that twice with hammocks and while one of the hammocks did ok over time the other did not. I finally splurged and got the real deal in a Pawley's Island Original. I saw them at our local science museum in a public outdoor area and I loved the look and feel. I finally broke down and got one and the difference between the other brands was quite significant. The look, feel and how it's wearing is definitely much better than what I used to. I'm certain this will last for years and when I need to replace it I would go for the Pawley's Island again. ... show more

  • The Genuine Article
Color: Green
I am happy with my new hammock. It replaces another Pawley’s Island hammock I had for over thirty years. The accompanying hardware is a nice touch; however, I have an old hammock stand —also a Pawley’s Island product—and the chains that came with my new hammock were too short. I am glad I kept the old chains because I needed them to hang the new one. The chains that came with the hammock do not come off unless you have a chain cutter. I would suggest to this seller to send the chains as a separate unit and make them about nine inches longer for each customer’s need. My hammock now has two sets of chains. It looks all right, but it would look better if the chains were not part of the hammock itself. Nice product. I love the dark green. It will not show stains as readily as my old one did. ... show more

  • Not very durable
Color: Oatmeal
One of the knots unravelled after just a few months of use. The hammock was put inside overwinter and altogether got about 6 months of light ise before this happened. I called the company directly and they would not help, fix or replace. When I posted a previous review (which was not accepted), they contacted me immediately and said they would send out a knot to fix the problem. I hope to see it soon. There are probably better hammocks for $200. Update: I agree with the other poster that the previous version of this hammock was wonderful and lasted us about 10 years as well. The fix kit arrived, and it contains one whole braided hanging end and will involve knotting the new head to the net part of the hammock and untying the 17 remaining current knots. It was nice of them to send the fix, as the issue wasn't reported til a few weeks after the 1 year warranty expired, but I am not adept at this, and it looks like it will take some time and skill i do not have. What happened to the days companies stood behind their product and replaced defective items? This hammock should have lasted more than a few months of use. ... show more

  • Way too stretchy, and uncomfortable.
Color: Coastal Blue
I'm sad to write this review. I wanted desperately to love this hammock. But the reality is the manufactured rope used in it is way too stretchy, it's relatively poorly tied off, and the netting opens up huge gaps. Uneven gaps make it uncomfortable with small gaps, big gaps, and medium gaps. I had this at almost 5 feet hight off the ground ... which makes it a significant challenge to get in to ... and yet, it stretched so low that it almost hit the ground. Yeah - I'm a big guy - 6'5" and 250 pounds ... but it's supposed to be rated at 450 pounds of capacity. I was also a bit disappointed as I expected a better series of knot work where the rope was tied. There were inconsistent lengths, and tie-offs with loose ends sticking out between 4 to 10" in length. The description says it's supposed to be 1 single rope - it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT that ... ... show more
