I have been spending more time hiking lately and having a compass seemed like a good idea. When I go on hikes, I keep my phone with my keys and power bank altogether in my hydration pack. I do not want to chance having my phone in my pocket and have it drop in swamp water on the trail. Having said that, my phone was my primary source for orienting myself on the trail. Since I no longer use my phone I wanted something that doesn’t need batteries or a GPS signal to work. Hence, the basic compass. As a test, I went on a 6 mile hike with my group and we only used my compass when we went on new trails. It worked perfectly and it was easy to read. I have to admit, there was something a little special using an analog compass. It’s quite satisfying and I highly recommended it. The overall construction is nice and the color was vibrant (I selected the orange variant). It is super lightweight and compact, so throwing this in the pack was a no brainer. If I had a complain, it would be speed. The needle seemed to lag a little bit until it found north, but I’m not sure if it’s the needle or I’m just not used to old school tech. Summary: nice and cheap tool for a hiker that doesn’t want to drag more batteries out to the trails. ... show more
