  • Edge 820 - itself is a nice head unit with more compact features of the 1000 ...
Color: UT 800 Smart Size: Bike Mount Pattern Name: Headlight
So first off I think Garmin Edge set up is really well done and I am writing a brief review for the three units purchased. Not sure alone they make much sense, this kit is expensive compared to other options out there no doubt. If you ask me is it over priced as a package, I’d say no. I am sure you will read review and review watching someone trying to add cred to their You Tube rating or social media trouncing of a major brand in our sport but that fact remains, if something works, it works. Edge 820 - itself is a nice head unit with more compact features of the 1000 but for me it is all about size and portability off the bike. Quick on and off and the provided bracket is great. I do not like strapping things to my stem so the extended cockpit bracket that comes with both 820 and light work just fine. The overall usage seems like my other Garmin units, I have tried other brands and for my non professional riding I need simple data and Garmin has provided this to me for almost 15 years now only better. I do use MFP to interface my Fitbit data into one place. The UT 800 headlamp - amazing build and function. It’s a freaking headlamp why does it have to cost so much you ask? Once you use it you’ll figure it out. I do a lot of hard pack and gravel night rides and have used other units all work but none as well as this UT 800. I have also demo’ed some of the more expensive units that are amazing but for my needs this thing is perfect. How it integrates into the bracket is well executed and secure and the unit while still light is heavy duty built it seems to withstand a little abuse. While I have crashed a few times with all the kit, I have never hit anything with the brackets. Installation and bluetooth set up was so simple and battery life runs longer than I do. TL 300 taillight - Why did I buy this? I have a perfect tail lamp unit that runs a long time on aaa’s but I was curious simply about the integration into the edge system. It works and integration is excellent. It’s bright, motion active, and easy to recharge on the bike. How it all fits and works together is genius, well done worth the money for my needs on a new bike build. I would probably have gone with 520 and cheaper lighting options and saved $300.00 if I were on a budget but it would not be truly integrated. ... show more

  • Excellent Integration and Performance
Color: UT 800 Smart Size: Bike Mount Pattern Name: Headlight
I recently purchased the Garmin Varia UT 800 Smart Light, and it has proven to be an excellent addition to my cycling setup. The light works seamlessly with my Garmin Edge 840, allowing for effortless connectivity and control. I appreciate how the light automatically adjusts its brightness based on ambient light conditions, ensuring optimal visibility without blinding others. In terms of performance, the Garmin Varia UT 800 provides powerful illumination, making it ideal for both urban commuting and nighttime rides on darker roads. The battery life is impressive, lasting several hours even on higher brightness settings. The build quality is top-notch, with a durable construction that feels sturdy and reliable. I've encountered no issues with durability or performance thus far. Overall, the Garmin Varia UT 800 Smart Light exceeds expectations with its seamless integration, reliable performance, and excellent visibility features. It's a worthwhile investment for cyclists looking to enhance safety and visibility during their rides. ... show more

  • Expensive, but well worth it!
Color: UT 800 Smart Size: Bike Mount Pattern Name: Headlight
You will buy this to use along with a Garmin head unit. Do not buy this to use as a light on its own. I love love LOVE how well this integrates with my Garmin GPS on my bike. It's just... so cool. It will auto adjust brightness depending on my speed (at night). It will auto detect the ambient light and entering a flashing mode or full beam. It overall feels really high quality as well. I use this in conjunction with a Garmin Varia and I feel SAFE riding at night. ... show more

  • Works well, but not very “smart”
Color: UT 800 Smart Size: Bike Mount Pattern Name: Headlight
This light is powerful and has a few modes and offers great visibility. Although I’m perplexed about the name because there’s nothing really “smart” about it. Battery life could be improved, but leaving it in strobe mode so I’m getting about six hours which is almost just enough time for most of my rides. ... show more

  • Really good headlight for my bike
Color: UT 800 Smart Size: Bike Mount Pattern Name: Headlight
I am very pleased with this purchase. I am not using it to connect to a different device -- just standalone. It was fairly easy to install (I had to pull up the manual on the Garmin website). i am pleased with this purchase and hoping it will stay secure on the bike. recommended.

  • A little expensive but worth it I think
Color: UT 800 Smart Size: Bike Mount Pattern Name: Headlight
I have a Garmin Edge 530 that I ride my bike with. I had been using Night Rider front lights that don't have any bike computer integration capability. They're nice lights but one big drawback is you don't know what kind of battery life you have left. The Garmin Varia front light can be integrated nicely with my Edge into a light network. I also have the Varia rear tail light with radar that alerts me anytime a vehicle approaches from the rear. So the front and back lights form a network. You can change the light function such as intensity, daylight or night time flashing, steady or intermittant and other things. Plus you can see approximately how much battery life you have left. It comes with a mounting kit for round cross section handle bars. The bare light mounts perfectly with my Canyon bike K-Edge handle bar accessory mount which also supports mounting my Edge 530. One trick I learned is when you're done with your ride you need to completely power down your Edge (if that's what you have) as well as the lights. When you go on your next ride, power up the light first. You can press the light power button multiple times to select continuous or flash mode and then when the light is operating then power up your Edge. If you have the rear tail light with radar, power it up first as well before you power up the Edge. When both the front and rear lights are operating, then power up the Edge. I found that if you only put your Edge in sleep mode you have trouble forming the light network. But do it in that order and it works great! ... show more
