  • Hard to improve on this one at ant price!
I recently purchased a Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Promaster Diver Watch with Date, BN0150-28E. This is the 3RD EcoDrive watch I have owned, the others being the first generation Diver, very similar to this one and a military styled field watch. With that said, both those models are daily wear including military and public safety use and are still going strong. Now...on to this beauty....I ordered one two weeks ago, got it two days later and sent the first one back. Why? No instruction booklet or warranty number on the watch tag. I ordered a second one, it two arrived in two days and again, same thing. I actually called Citizen and spoke to a person in Licensed Sales about this, suspecting maybe Amazon was not an authorized sales outlet. They explained they in an effort to reduce packaging (which is funny as this thing comes in a gargantuan box with a replica scuba tank inside) those aspects of the transaction are now online. My old watches had an instruction booklet and warranty number with the watch. I also learned that registering the watch ONLINE gives you one additional year of warranty so bumping it to 6 years. Now- on to the watch. It is a work of simplistic diving watch wrist art. Very old school, simple and elegant at the same time. You could envision James Bond wearing something like this very functional timepiece. I have big wrists and hands and watches are sometimes awkwardly sized for my wear. Not so with this watch, it is just right, not too big, not to small on my 9" wrist. The lume on this watch is fantastic with the "0" on the outer adjustable bezel being a slightly different color to distinguish it. Each number pip has a discrete bright silver trim ring to further enhance low light veiwability. The minute hand is trimmed in a florescent orange to immediately bring the eye to it and for some nice style points that pays homage to its diving roots. The watch itself is no lightweight but at the same time it is not especially chunky either. The offset stem is super comfortable on the wrist ( I wear mine on the right hand ) The solar panel is a smooth, even surfaced flat black, unlike the earlier Eco-drives which had a bit of "grid" pattern to them. If there was one feature I would say I disliked, it would would be the band. It is a heavyweight, and frankly uncomfortable rubber band. It has a decompression chart printed on one side, that appears to be slightly inaccurate compared to my real diving tables. I was a public safety diver for 6 years and don't see any diver actually using the table when computers are so much the standard these days. The factory band is long enough where it would likely fit over most wet suits without much problem. I'd not hesitate taking this watch on regular diving operations and have take the older version I have on many operations without issue. The first thing I did upon receipt was remove the factory rubber watchband and replace them with nylon 5 ring NATO style watchstrap. The orange strap shown in the pic, really makes this piece "pop" as does the khaki and olive versions I purchased. It utilizes a 20MM watchband. The other small annoyance is the teeny tiny calendar date window. Basically it is worthless, all I can say about that. One other suggestion is to purchase some glass crystal protectors for the watch face. My older model is scratched and chipped from real world use and the glass used on these are prone to damage. I got a pack of these off Amazon for under 10 bucks and they essentially function like a cell phone screen protector. Worth it. In summary, in a world where the wristwatch is falling by the wayside more and more, this rugged, adventure craving timepiece is both a statement and functional piece of EDC kit. It is a "must have" for anyone with an interest in true diving watches or those just desiring a stylish, simple and rugged adventure watch that you will find entering your watch rotation and crowding out lesser types. ... show more

  • Great basic diver for the price
This is an excellent bang for the buck ISO 6425 certified quartz/solar diver with the necessary (and cool) features a decent diver should have - stainless case and screw down back with 4 o’clock screw-down crown, unidirectional aluminum 60-click bezel, a mineral crystal and superluminova BGW9 blue lume on the chunky hands and indices. After exposing to a light source, it glows very bright for the first hour, then begins to slowly fade but will linger on and still be visible enough to tell time through the night. The watch was running when I received it, inside a plastic mini oxygen toy tank, no warranty card or any papers at all except for a tag attached to the band. It hasn’t exhibited any sign of low battery power. It is very comfortable to wear and seems like the perfect size for my 6.75” wrist. It does not have a very tall case and therefore sits very low on the wrist, easily fits under the shirt sleeve. Good looking, excellent workmanship, hands, indices, chapter ring and bezel all line up perfectly, no sign of flaws anywhere and it seems tough enough to withstand use in the shop or office, in the water or whatever you have in mind. Well thought out all around beater at this price point, obviously in part because it is a quartz movement and not an auto but the upside is a longer frequency of maintenance intervals and the better ability to withstand shock. That said, there are a few cons for me and this is where I think they dropped the ball - The 20mm lugs are way too small for this 44mm case. The provided plastic band which tapers to a narrower width at the clasp, besides feeling low-grade, is too narrow in proportion with the watch case. 22mm lugs and a non-tapered band would probably be perfect. Also, the calendar date window on the dial is way too small and eye straining to focus in. IMO, a calendar on a divers watch dial isn’t really necessary and removing it would give this watch an even cleaner look and make it less complicated. All in all, a great timepiece at this price and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a basic dive watch. ... show more

  • Great Watch, Bargain Price
Just got this watch today, so this is an out-of-the-box review. The watch arrived in a large box that seemed capable of holding 4-6 watches. Inside was a plastic SCUBA tank replica with the watch concealed inside. I had to watch a You Tube video to figure out how to open it. (Hold the top and bottom and pull apart; a cubby will be revealed that holds the watch. All very impressive considering the very reasonable price I paid. Inside the box was a registration booklet but no manual. The watch arrived running out of the box, which makes me think it was a recent return. A careful inspection revealed zero imperfections, so I think someone was careful sending it back except for the missing manual. The time was 2 minutes off, and the date was set four days earlier. The watch case is larger than it looks. Next to my Casio Duro, it appears 2-3mm smaller, but I think that is because the black portion of the bezel extends out further on the Casio. Both watches measured about the same using a ruler and my eyeballs. (Not counting the crown, about 43mm each, give or take a mm. I can’t speak to accuracy or durability due to my brief ownership, but the lume seems good, quality seems excellent and I can attest to the fact that the watch looks great with a NATO band. The band that the watch came with felt stiff and plasticky, but adequate. I am pleased with the watch and recommend it. At more than half off retail, it is not only a great watch, but an excellent buy. Update: Unidirectional bezel is 60 click not 120 for those who care about that. Keeps excellent time and zero issues swimming or showering. Love this watch. ... show more
