From the invention of modern saw chain to research innovations that reduce injury-causing kickback, Oregon has always been the industry leader. There’s a reason why we’re the world’s number-one in saw chain, guide bars, sprockets, forestry accessories, lawnmower blades and outdoor equipment parts. Oregon Chainsaw Bar and Chain Oil, 1 Gallon Bottle (128 fl.oz / 4500 ml) (54-059) Oregon Bar & Chain Oil is specially compounded to deliver extra tackiness and prevent "throw off" - even under adverse weather conditions. The high film-strength prevents wear or scuffing of chain links and bars while protecting metal parts against corrosion and rust. This oil helps resist build-up of deposits such as resins, sap, or gum onto your saw chain for longer-lasting bars and chains. • I Am Impressed! IT GETS THE JOB DONE!
Style: Chainsaw
This review is for the Oregon CS 1500: 15 amp, with 18 inch bar. I have used my share of gas operated chain saws, and no, this electric saw is not the same. Not the same fumes; mixing gas; buying gas, not the same weight; not the same cold start procedure and pulling a starting cord, over and over! And honestly, it is not the same power either. You cannot have it all, but if you are not in a hurry, and learn how the saw works, this little chain saw will click "all" of the dots! Yet, it would be helpful if the person that is using it has some knowledge on how to use a chainsaw. If you know the general use of a chainsaw, you will know when to back off and allow the saw to cut at its pace. I found that it will cut continuously through whatever log or tree you desire to, but again, you need to know how to manage the power of the saw. In my belief, having this general knowledge alone will resolve most of the bad reviews. Sadly, I suspect operator era in some of these cases. These are some things I learned real quick about this chainsaw: 1. It has lots of power, but it will not cut as fast as most gas powered saws, but it will cut "continuously"! This is important for me, for if it did not have enough power to cut continuously, it would have been a deal breaker for me. 2. It has a great tool less chain tension mechanism; easy to keep clean and actually easy to access. 3. The auto chain oiler does a good job even when things are constant power for prolonged periods 4. The auto sharpener is okay, I guess but I did not use it that much. 5. It is lightweight in comparison to most gas models. 6. Distance from power source: Actually, I had over 125 feet of cord at one point and I honestly did not notice a power drop. These are some things to keep in mind: 1. Each time that the chain came off, it was operator era on my part. Abrupt movement when unintentionally encountering a small sapling was one time and the other was when I was making a cut underneath a log and moved the bar sideways. 2. The chain can be placed on the bar going in the wrong direction, and this might be some peoples issue. I mistakenly placed the chain on wrong and believe me, it will not cut at all when you do this. 3. I read a couple reviews concerning the plastic build of the chainsaw and they showed pictures of melting plastic around the gear. It is quite possible that this happened, but I think if you work the saw in a method inside of its capabilities, it will not happen. If the chain is being oiled, and you are not continuously pushing the saw to the point that you hear the electrical (bog down) overload sound, then this might not happen. Such a practice will make things heat up on any engine! 4. The plastic build? Great, makes it lighter and cooler to the touch! 5. Price? Look at it this way, I have paid contractors to cut down and cut up trees around my home a few times. The smallest tree (for one tree) was 750 dollars, and upward to over $2000 for others. One of the trees I cut with this little chain saw was larger than the 750 dollar tree. So, this saw just paid for itself 7 times over! Take a look at the attached pictures. Judging by the saw dust particles distance from the application, does it look like it was not cutting? ... show more

  • Amazingly powerful and tough
Style: Chainsaw
At first I wasn't sure if this chainsaw would do a thorough job of cutting trees, but it exceeded my expectations. I felled three 90-year old (based on counting rings) ash trees with trunks about 26 to 32 inches in diameter. Cut all branches and cut all the trunks down to 18" sections for firewood with this saw. Really outstanding tool! I wasn't sure if the self-sharpening feature was a gimmick or something that would be useful, and I found it to be a really great feature. It works well! No pull starting, it's quiet when I set it down, it doesn't need a tune up and doesn't need 2-cycle oil mixture, doesn't make a bunch of noise, and no spark plugs to change, no gummed up carburetors to fidget with, and it has instant torque. For a small property owner like me with just a few trees to occasionally take care of, I will never go back to gas powered again. Keep in mind I have a generator and a 100' power cord with thick (low gauge) wire. You absolutely must get a thicker gauge power cord for this saw (per manufacturer recommendations), so remember to figure that in to your expenses. I also use a special grade chain lube for colder weather - and would not recommend running this saw (or any saw) in cold weather without a thinner viscosity lube. Overall a fantastic product for an awesome price. By the way, I just purchased my second one. Want to have a spare in the rare case I get one pinched (jammed) and need a spare to cut my way out of a the problem. ... show more

  • could not be happier
Style: Chainsaw
I wanted a lightweight mid-sized saw for annual yard maintenance and emergency preparedness, since we live among trees subject to winter snow and wind damage. I've used chain saws for more than fifty years and finally wore out my last one. Have been a skeptic of the new electric saws, but after comparing gas saw brands, weights and prices, I ran across this one, took a deep breath and decided to give it a try. I've been very pleasantly surprised and no longer skeptical. Today I sliced up a 20+ in diam Hemlock like a knife through warm butter. Perfectly straight cut, the saw never slowed down, threw out nice clean chips, and the chain cleaned the cut effectively. Have to say I had actually scoffed at the idea of a "self sharpening" chain, as I've sharpened many a chain and know how the teeth are shaped, and how tedious the job us. The chisel teeth are amazing, and work so well that, all considered, I expect the innovation to take over the market. Great job, Oregon. Regarding maintenance, the gas saws can't be compared. Now I have no gas to mix, store, throw out and replace regularly. I use the saw, clean it up, and put it away.. end of story. With 150' of cord I can reach most of my property, and if needed outside of that, or in an emergency, say without power, I have a little Champion 2500 portable emergency generator which.. guess what.. runs the saw just fine. And oh yes, the price. With today's inflation, I (almost) feel guilty paying less than $100 for this saw. Thank you Oregon Oregon CS1500 18-inch 15 Amp Self-Sharpening Corded Electric Chainsaw ... show more
