  • Best Chain Saw I have ever used, for many reasons!
Style: 2.6Ah Battery Pack Included
I have used several chainsaws over about the past 30 years. Almost all of them were gas powered. Some were easier to use than others, but none of them was as easy to use as this one! I has never used a battery-powered chainsaw before, but after much research, the Oregon seemed like the one to get. I have not been disappointed. While it is not as powerful as some gas powered chainsaws, it does have several advantages that make up for this: 1. It always starts. I have often struggled to get gas-powered tools started, which can make for disappointment when the tool decides to stop running and needs to be restarted. This is never a problem with the Oregon saw. 2. Self-sharpening. This is the only chainsaw with this feature. It eliminates one of the most tedious tasks associated with operating a chainsaw. It sharpens effortlessly in seconds, a major plus. 3. Chain rarely needs tightening. I've had this saw for about 8 months and I rarely have to tighten the chain. When I do, it is quick to adjust. 4. Does not leak oil. Maybe I'm lucky or something, but this is the first chainsaw I have ever seen that does not leak oil when stored. "They all leak oil" is accepted wisdom with chainsaws, but this one seems to break that rule. 5. Battery lasts a long time, with even power until empty. A 6.0 battery will easily last me a couple of hours. 6. No more buying, carrying, mixing and pouring of gasoline. Just keep your batteries charged. The fuel is as close as a power socket. 7. No gas engine maintenance, priming, etc. 8. Cuts reliably and well, if a little slower than some gas chainsaws. If I add up all the time I save compared to trying to start a gas chainsaw, fooling with gasoline (buying, mixing, carrying, pouring), adjusting the chain, manually sharpening the chain and cleaning up leaked oil, I think I definitely save time and effort using the Oregon. All this is to say that the Oregon CS300 is so easy to use that I do not hesitate to use it. I know I will work when I need it to, without giving me needless headaches. It is my favorite outdoor tool. I hope this is helpful. ... show more

  • Great tool
Style: Chainsaw
My chain saw is very good. The battery is quite hefty as far as interchangeable batteries go, but the overall weight and balance of the chain saw with the battery inserted is excellent. And it rips through six inch plus branches with ease. I used it extensively to cut back and log an old and twisted tree and the battery was still half-charged at the end of a couple of hours work. I didn’t have any difficulty attaching the chain, as some reported, by making sure the tension adjust was in its most forward position before trying. I haven’t tried the sharpener function but it appears to be robustly thought out. I expect it to work, but I have to blunt the chain first and I haven’t got there yet!! I retensioned the blade after ~20 cuts and it was easy with the big red knob. No Allen key needed. Hurrah! Overall, I’m very pleased with this product. I do only have it for occasional use. ... show more

  • No-Hassle Wood Cutting, Built-in Sharpener
Style: Chainsaw
I live on a wooded lot and use the saw primarily for cutting branches, though I used it recently to fell a couple dead trees with 14-inch trunks and saw them up. I had two gas-powered chainsaws, which I spent more time trying to start and getting to run properly than I spent using them to cut wood. Three things about this saw I like--1) press the trigger and it runs, release it and it's off, 2) built-in sharpener, 3) much quieter than gas chainsaws. It works very well on branches/logs up to 5-6 inches, struggles on larger logs (stops frequently, especially if the chain is getting dull, the battery is getting low, or the wood is uncured), but I suspect that some of this has to do with technique--holding the saw just right and letting it do the work instead of trying to force it. Cuts best with a brand new chain on cured wood, but that's probably true of all chainsaws. I don't like the safety button (trigger lock-out). I suppose it's necessary, but having to press that button and the trigger every time is a annoying. Overall, I love it and glad I made the switch from gas to battery. ... show more

  • This is one handy chainaw!
Style: Chainsaw
I recently had a chance to use my Oregon chainsaw. I felled three 10-12" trees, about 30' tall, cut them in 18" logs, and did it in one battery charge! The saw is very easy to sue, is lightweight, but chewed through those trees with little effort. The self-sharpener is very easy to use (simple press the button while running the saw). I would highly recommend this saw as a very good replacement for a gas-powered saw. No mixing gas and oil, no refueling, no whining noise, no constant pulling on the cord trying to get it to start. Just push the battery into place, press the safety button, and pull the trigger! It's great! I would recommend purchasing an extra battery so that you always have a fresh charge, and you can keep sawing! ... show more

  • Works great
Style: Chainsaw
If you're looking at reviews, this saw doesn't score well. It doesn't have the power of others but the self sharpening is pretty nice and I'd take a slower saw with a sharper blade over something that is more powerful but bogs down as the blade dulls. The speed tests always assume the blade is sharp but it doesn't stay sharp. With this saw you always have a sharp blade and the job is easier. So far I'm satisfied. ... show more

  • Battery operated chain saw
Style: Chainsaw
Bought one a few years ago and used it without any problems. Bought this one to replace that one. Easy to use. Usually by the time the battery needs to be recharged, I am worn out and need to recharge also. Easy to handle and I do like the built in sharpener. Easy to adjust the chain tension.

  • Good light use homeowners chain saw
Style: Chainsaw
This is a good quality chainsaw for light use. I love the ease of use and self sharpening feature. Functioned well while clearing a 400 foot path for a fence through terrain overgrown with 4-6" saplings. The battery lasted longer than I did. However, it has it's limits. It is not recommended for cutting 6-8" southern pine CCA posts. On an 80 degree day, 10 cuts and done. The battery was spent and overheated. A hot battery will not recharge. After 5 minutes in the fridge and the battery recharged in about 2 hours. Lithium ion battery and electric motor technology isn't quite ready for heavy use. ... show more
