  • The least expensive synthetic rope winch on Amazon
Edit: For everybody complaining that the remotes don't work, remember (1) to pull out the plastic on the remotes' batteries so they work, and (2) you MUST push the button on the side of the remote before it will work. Mashing up and down on the remote without FIRST pushing the button on the side will make you believe the remote doesn't work. So far the winch and remotes have functioned flawlessly recovering a UTV that slid off the trail, down a steep hill and for utility tasks around my homestead. Original Write-up: After blowing a belt on my Polaris 1000S in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere led to dark-thirty loading hassles, I knew I needed to get a winch. This ORCISH 12V 4500lb claimed it was good for both ATVs and UTVs, so I went for it and purchased it along with Super ATV's winch mounting plate for my Polaris 1000S. I was able to use the supplied hardware that came with Super ATV's winch plate to install the winch plate. In my case, I was able the get the winch plate installed without removing anything and only jacking up the front end off of the ground to get the wheels and front suspension to sag and get out of the way. I also installed the two Super ATV adaptor bits that hold the Orcish fairlead. No matter which way those bits were installed, I needed to oval the holes that the fairlead mounts to as the supplied Orcish fairlead was too short for the long way and too long for the short way to mount. In one photo of the fairlead, I have not installed the cover Super ATV includes with their winch mount so you can see how the supplied standoffs mount using Polaris' OEM hardware, and in another photo, you can see Super ATV's facia cover mounted with the Orcish fairlead. Installing the winch, I did need to pop out the lower lefthand shock mount bolt to gain enough room to sneak in the winch. I was able to use the supplied hardware to mount the winch to SuperATV's winch mounting plate without drama. Looking at the wiring diagram, I couldn't locate the box for the remote and so I pulled the four screws out of the back of the relay box and found the unpotted remote was also in the box with the winch relay. It would be nice if Orcish would put a dashed line in their supplied wiring diagram around both the relay and the remote receiver designating that both components are in the box and that we're not missing something. Wiring in the battery cables it was quickly apparent that the supplied red and black battery cables were way too short. $63.00 later at my local Napa and I had two 9' bulk cables and the two different kinds of 6GA eyelet cable ends I needed to make my own custom-length battery cables. Puzzling out where to mount the black box led me to ignore the standard Polaris mounting point on the firewall because the Orcish black box is larger and so I opted to mount the box directly below the power distribution strip where I could get my hands on both sides as well as a space for my drill. I had to use my own hardware to mount the control box as the supplied hardware was both too long, and lacking lock-nuts. In the photo I supplied, you can just see the upper 5mm lock nut on the 5mm bolt behind the wiring. Once the relay-remote box was mounted, I crimped on the right-sized terminals for the relay and chased the hot and ground cables through the firewall, through a hole in the forward center hump, and then generally followed the factory harness until reaching the battery. I could have run the wire down the firewall to the center hump, but I wanted a way to secure the winch's battery cables with zip ties against vibration without the need to drill more holes into my firewall. The supplied yellow and blue battery cables needed to be cut down to fit properly and these cables are on the cheap side, needing to be crimped using the smallest battery cable crimping anvil I have for my battery crimping tool. But it worked as you can see from another photo. Wiring in the supplied winch control, I confirmed function of the winch, then removed and unplugged the control wires, and cut the control cable harness to length to reach my dash while discarding the ATV handlebar control switch and mount. I then installed sheathing onto the remaining control circuit wiring harness, wrapped it with 3M electrical tape, crimped on male blade connectors, fitted the new winch switch in my dash, and buttoned everything up. I did need to take a flapper disk to fit SuperATV’s front facia of their winch mounting plate kit to fit the fairlead. Not a big deal: flapper disk, test fit, rattle-can black paint, and bolt-on. In hindsight, this ORCISH 12V 4500lb winch is an ATV winch that can be adapted for UTVs and extra fitting is necessary to make the winch work on a UTV. Even so, the winch (though I’d had it on my RZR a whopping 72 hours) appears to be a good value. Check out the photos I’ve included. ... show more

  • Surprised me how well it worked ,
We Used it to lift 300lb, trusses 22 ft, up , the synthetic rope looks to small but all went well with no problem, the remote already has a battery , all needed is to turn it on,

  • Pain to install, good value
Pros; - good size for ATV/UTV - remotes function, you do not need to install the manual switch if you don't want to - synthetic rope easier to work with and no corrosion issues - wires were just the right size for my application, no issues as some others have stated Cons; - the wiring instructions provided and even the ones on this listing show a receiver, there isn't one - the terminals on the relay box are too long making installing the boots a true pain in the back side, almost do not work - the top mount hole for the relay box is directly behind one of the terminal lugs making you use a sort mount bolt and making it difficult to access/tighten - the relay box is not sealed at all, you will need to do some work with some RTV if you want any water protection at all If installing on a Can Am that did not have a winch previously you will need to buy a mount plate as the one that comes with it will not work. The one shown was bought on Amazon for $58 and it is a direct bolt in. This is a unit for a ATV/UTV, do not install it on a Jeep, truck, or recovery trailer and expect it to pull you out. Get a bigger, more expensive winch and stop blaming this product for not performing outside its operating parameters. ... show more

  • Time will tell.
Nice winch for the price. I didn't care for how it fits together or how the bracket holes were layed out. So i just welded the bracket to a plate I mounted. I will test it out and see how it goes. There needs to be an option to buy without the wireless remotes as I don't have any use for them. I will update the review if it doesn't hold up. ... show more
