  • E5 error message with frequent PVCs
I've been using the BP monitor for three weeks now. Pros: 1. Easy to read results. 2. I like that it takes three readings, separated by 60 seconds, as is recommended 3. BP cuff is easy to put on and off. 4. It shows a symbol alerting you to irregular heartbeat, if present. 5. Long warranty (6 years)! 6. Claims to be validated for clinical accuracy. I have no reason to doubt this claim. Cons: 1. I have slow pulse and frequent PVCs with longer pauses between beats. This sometimes causes BP monitor to show E5 error and not report that pressure. 2. Occasionally, maybe around 5% of the time, pressure pumps up way higher than needed at start (e.g., to 170 to 200). 3. I like that it calculates average of three consecutive pressures, but I would also like to see what those three pressures are that are being averaged. I don't know how to do that. 4. The case is soft-sided and just barely large enough to hold the BP monitor, cuff, and power cord. The rating remains 5 stars because the primary advantages for the BP monitor far outweigh the few cons. ... show more

  • Monitor is very accurate and easy to use - also Omron Android App and Bluetooth is a HUGE plus
After reading many reviews regarding accuracy issues I did a lot of independent research from various review sources including Consumer Reports and a two other technical review sites. Because let's be clear, while bells and whistles like Bluetooth may by nice, THE reason monitors are purchased is to accurately monitor blood pressure. And this one does that very well. Accuracy was not an issue in any review I found. All the ratings I reviewed had this and the Omron Series 10 as the consistently most accurate and also most highly rated overall when including other features such as ease of use, bluetooth, cuff design, etc. My experience validates these reviews. The monitor is very accurate when measured against a previous Omron 711 series I own and also at the doctors office. I don't always use the TruRead mode, which can very easily be enabled/disabled, but it is nice. It automatically takes three readings at intervals you establish in 15 sec intervals - either every 15, 30, 60 or 90 seconds as you choose. With TruRead, the average of the three is displaced and stored in memory as one value indicated by a symbol so you know. The monitor is very to use and set up and is an improvement over my older Omron 711 series, which is still quite accurate - I wanted a newer model. The cuff is much easier to use and wraps around the upper arm more easily and quicker. The display is well designed and easy to read and also provides indicator for high readings. I also like the memory function better as it gives you the most recent reading on the right display and allows you to scroll backwards thru previous readings and those are easy to compare to the most recent on the right. And all history is present such as date, time and mode - single or TruRead averages, so you know. The cuff air hose easily plugs into the monitor and that connection is substantial and should not break. Instructions tell you to unplug the cuff from monitor prior to storing. But the biggest surprise for me is the Bluetooth connectivity to my Android phone and the Omron phone app. The setup is very easy - took less than 5 minutes for me. I have an LG V30 Android phone. Downloaded the app, enabled Bluetooth on the phone, and simply followed the instructions on the very well thought out app. It synced immediately, I set up an account with Omron thru the app, and transferred history - all within 5 min. And I was very impressed with the app and the history display which is complete with a graph and ability to view by day, month, year, etc. Very, very nice. This is definitely something I will use ever though it was not a factor in my decision to purchase this monitor. It should have been LOL ... show more

  • Review & Encouragement
REVIEW The Omron Platinum BP Monitor is registered with the FDA as a medical device and when you receive it you will understand why. It is a precision electronic instrument. Here are some highlights: • The monitor is heavy duty and finely crafted. • It has a real BP cuff with a D-ring that allows you to easily get it snug around your arm. • It has a variety of features, including a 3-take average and an alert for morning hypertension. • It has a carry case and an AC power supply. • It has a comprehensive, printed manual. • It is easy to unpack even if you problems with dexterity. • It is easy to read the display even if you have less than good vision. In short, this is a device you would expect to see used in professional home health care. You pay more but you get a lot more. If you want something that looks like it should be included with a happy meal, then spend $29.95. But first, ask yourself this. “What is my life worth?” ENCOURAGEMENT High blood pressure is a silent killer that affects about half of the US population, according to best estimates. I did not get one of the best BP monitors you can buy because I have high blood pressure. I got it because I DON’T WANT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE! And the best way to avoid problems is to watch what your body is doing. I got into taking care of myself back when they laughed and called you a “health food nut.” No one calls me that anymore and my contemporaries stopped laughing a long time ago, those that are still alive. I take no medications and have boundless energy. I just ran 2 miles in the hills yesterday and tonight I will lift weights. I can stand with my legs straight and put my palms flat on the floor. I can balance on one leg and hold the other straight out for more than a minute. I am a lot older than you would guess if you saw me. How did I do it? Simple. Almost no alcohol, tobacco or drug use (I experimented briefly with cigarettes when I was a kid). Eating organic (no additives) and low on the food chain. Drinking bottled water. Protecting myself from chemicals in food and the environment. Reading about health and using good judgment rather than following fads. Exercising vigorously and often. Not letting anyone make me feel like a stick-in-the-mud for being cautious about my health. I may not have a medical degree but I have figured out that taking care of yourself pays off in dividends that are worth more than money. Just ask anyone who is sick. If you have a problem, your doctor is going to advise medication and you should listen to her. But you should also look to your lifestyle and change everything you can to improve your health. Your goal should always be to enjoy good health naturally because medications have side effects and will never completely compensate for a poor diet, inactivity, destructive habits or environmental toxins. I have some regrets in my life, but taking care of myself has never been one of them. I know it is difficult, but ask yourself this question. “What is my life worth?” ... show more
