We like this metal detector. My kids go around the yard digging up the yard. The only thing I didn't agree with is the battery does not last that long.

The detector arrived in good packaging and undamaged. The kit includes two 9volt batteries, two attachment screws and nuts for the lower sensor attachment, and the extendable main piece with meter. It was simple to put together only tool needed was a small phillips screwdriver to open the battery compartment. Although this is not a professional detector we did test it in the back yard and found several items like nails and some landscape fabric wire anchors that were under the ground surface. The description says detection of a quarter 3 inches deep and larger pieces even deeper. Not sure how far it will actually detect, but it does find metal and the meter will track it weak to strong signal. Should be fun for the grandkids to play with when they come visit. 👍 ... show more

At the current price of $69, it is a rather pricey toy (at least for our family), but this is definitely a winner with the grandkids. It encourages exploration and outdoor fun!     • Not just a toy for kids, but also a useful tool for adults too.
I bought this for my daughter but I had to test it out first, and this works better than I expected. Much to my surprise, this seems to detect aluminum. A few months ago while working, I had dropped some nails and screws in my yard (working on my bird feeder), but wasn't able to find all of them until I used this metal detector. This metal detector came well secured in a nice box. The head is detached from the arm to reduce the box size, but it is trivial to assemble. They even include an extra screw to hold on the head, for when the kids strip out the first one. Also included is a battery. I was expecting this to be a shorty metal detector (my fault for not paying close enough attention to the listing) that would be too short for an adult to use, but the arm does extend far enough that I can use it comfortably. The one sided instructions are very sparse, and does not explain the res button well. When the metal detector is first turned on, it will "calibrate" itself. If you turned it on, while the search head was over something metal, then it won't be that sensitive, but if you push the power/res button it will recalibrate itself. To "reset" (recalibrate) the metal detector, short press the "res" button. It is probably a good idea to do this, whenever you reposition the search coil. This metal detector requires a 9 volt battery, but one is included. I wished it used an 18650 rechargeable battery, instead of a 9 volt battery. The "waterproof" search coil is a nice feature. This is a higher end entry level metal detector. I feel this is a little expensive, when you consider the fact that for $30 more, you can get a low end intermediate level metal detector, with more features and control, but this is probably perfect for a child, since it doesn't have any real controls, and just a single meter. When the kids aren't playing with this metal detector, adults can use it for getting real work done. ... show more

I tried the medal detector and it works. It doesn’t distinguish between different metal types however it does find metals that being coins, bottle caps etc. The meter will tell you when you are right over the object. It’s off slightly to the right but you can get use to it. The entire thing is not very long. It would of been nicer to be longer for tall individuals and louder in case you are metal detecting around a busy beach. The metal detector would be really great somewhere they don’t allow pull tabs or bottle caps to be dumped. This way you are only picking up treasures instead of trash. ... show more
