Oh my gosh! What did I ever do without this? This are 5 parts to this. The base, which is the heating part holds a small amount of water. About half of a cup or a little more. There is a small disc that is the waters heating element. Then the drawer. This holds a lot of hot dogs. The long ones would have to be turned sideways. Above the hot dogs is a rack to warm your buns on. I have to admit, I don't think there is that much room for buns, by the time I would put the lid on the lid wouldn't stay on securely. Everything is of plastic. The sign on the lid you have to put on yourself. I adore the bright yellow and red colors. The size is compact but mighty. They are stickers. Now, why I like this so very much is, it doesn't take long. Thin or fat hotdogs. I have even tried a Keilbasa in this. It didnt take long to cook. The best I ever had! This is a great buy. Omg why didn't I get this sooner. I love this and now we have hot dogs more. Don't leave the buns in too long or they become too hot and moist. You can use any type or size hot dogs because you can place them leghth wise. Hubby loves his charred and this make it so much better and faster. Been looking for a reasonably priced hot dog steamer and this one completely fits the bill. You get that quality hot dog cart vendor taste from this steamer right in your own kitchen anytime you’re in the mood for one! This was simple to setup and get started. On my trial run I put the water in the base and turned the steamer on high for about 15 minutes before placing just 2 bun length all beef hotdogs in the tray. (There is plenty of room for many more dogs) It only took about 5 minutes for the dogs to cook then I put 2 buns in the top compartment for only about 30 seconds to 1 minute and they came out perfectly soft and steamy without being soggy or wet. With that being said, be mindful of a lot of condensation that collects on the underside of the lid when removing it because the water can drip on your buns if you’re not careful. The only water that was present on the countertop when finished was condensation from opening and closing the hotdog compartment tray. Likewise, it was a breeze to take apart and clean when finished. The owners manual recommends to only wash this by hand and not in the dishwasher. The base of the steamer where the hot plate is housed must be wiped clean and never submerged in water while cleaning. The steamer and the handles are made entirely of plastic (even though the handles appear to be chrome, they are plastic) which feels a little cheap and flimsy however I’m sure that if it’s not abused it should hold up. There is a slight plastic/new appliance smell to it right out of the box but after I washed it in warm soapy water and used it the first time the smell seemed to dissipate. It did not have any adverse effect on the taste of the food. I placed a ruler in the photos to show approximate dimensions of the steamer. Oh, this was a great purchase. I brought this for our office party. It was a great hit! You really need to watch it cause your hot dogs will bust open!
